Day late and a dollar short, but the Mets did play their first two seasons in the Polo Grounds, lest we forget. That stupid trapazoid-shaped section of their right field fence – the way that part is recessed back for no apparent reason – is reminiscent of the recessed box in centerfield at the Polo Grounds more than anything else.

That’s the thing – all the extant helmets from that year are gold. That could be interpreted as support for either position – the team painted them all gold, or they all have deteriorated for the reasons he said.

Watching the Mets game tonight reminded me…this year marks the 70th anniversary of the Dodgers’ script uniform. The only major difference, of course is the lettering on the cap (damn anyone responsible for that!!!)

I’m surprised they didn’t come up with a commemorative sleeve patch to mark the occasion.
