Your friend Harold Mellor needn't have scrounged around the Globe basement for this newspaper page. A very good copy of the page is on display at the Patriots Hall of Fame at Patriot Place in Foxboro, MA, in plain view for everyone. I wish I had a picture, but it's there.

Nevertheless, interesting comment on the Globe following the Braves. These days the Bruins are lucky to get coverage.

I, for one, vote NO on the "Shea-shells".

Candela Structures sounds better than Shea-shells.

As for the Black for the sake of black in the Mets unis...I have to admit that the argument FOR the Met's use of black held water.

The NY Giants colors were orange and black, so the use of the color is warranted, however tacky and unnecessary it might be.

As for the pic of The Rotunda, I cannot concur because I was:

A.too busy digging in a trash receptacle to find my ticket and

B. too busy checking out the blonde in the "87 road jersey
I don't remember the Mets ever using the Giants as an excuse when they introduced the black. That wouldn't really make sense since it's obvious that they have basically been trying to represent themselves as the inheritors of the Dodger legacy more than anything else
Day late and a dollar short, but the Mets did play their first two seasons in the Polo Grounds, lest we forget. That stupid trapazoid-shaped section of their right field fence - the way that part is recessed back for no apparent reason - is reminiscent of the recessed box in centerfield at the Polo Grounds more than anything else.
why do you feel the need to call people who go to the racetrack degenerates and lowlifes? I am an employee of a MLB team and my wife runs training for the city and we goto the track. I guess we are $300,000 degenerates!
Nothing spells class like boasting about your (alleged) household income on a message board like this.
Anyone find the story by the helmet historian about the Lions gold odd, why wouldnt lots more "turn" gold as he says?
That's the thing - all the extant helmets from that year are gold. That could be interpreted as support for either position - the team painted them all gold, or they all have deteriorated for the reasons he said.

I was watching Home Improvement on TBS yesterday and Tim Taylor had a gold Lions helmet in his basement memorabilia. It was the episode where the parents pretend to be aliens and scare the older boys for teasing the dork.
Watching the Mets game tonight reminded me...this year marks the 70th anniversary of the Dodgers' script uniform. The only major difference, of course is the lettering on the cap (damn anyone responsible for that!!!)
I'm surprised they didn't come up with a commemorative sleeve patch to mark the occasion.

Please tell me that the only "Patriotic" display is going to be the Red hats this year and not this atrocity.
