The Packers jerseys give me fits. Favored by 14 in SB XXXI - they wear green and roll. Favored by 14 in SB XXXII - they wear white and lose, and to those horrible, horrible Broncos unis. All through the 90s we, and that includes, basically, all Packer fans from my inexact poll, hated those white uniforms. Probably because the Packers always went to Dallas and lost in them. It's amazing they won SB II in white, especially against arguably the best unis in sports, the Raiders black.
The Packers wear green when they go to Dallas
See? White jerseys givin' me fits. Frackin' white jerseys. Give me fits even when the Pack is wearing green

#104 ...a couple of clarifications

For Super Bowl VII (and the entire 1972 season), many Dolphin players wore the white stripeless jersey with the thick numbers that had been their road jersey in 1970 and 1971...the striped jersey with the thinnest numbers you've ever seen was introduced in '72, but was not worn by everyone.

By 1973 the Dolphins introduced another jersey set (both white and aqua) with stripes AND thicker numbers, which were worn by everyone, so your observation about some players being stripeless in SB VIII is incorrect.

All this talk of the non-subjective aspect of white jersey-wearing teams winning more (whether they were the "better" jersey or not), and noticed how the last four SB's have all been won by the white wearers. Before that it was three dark jerseys in a row, then prior to that three whites in a row.

Perhaps the Super Bowl winner is predictable by determining when the other pattern will start.

Maybe next season.

Also, on a separate non-uni-specific SB note, the West divisions in both conferences are considered abysmal, but out of the 20 teams in big game since 34 (including tomorrow), 5 have been from the West. (and all but the 49ers from the NFC will have been there). Sure, only the Rams actually won, but the point here is making it to the game. The division with the fewest appearances: NFC North (Bears two years ago). And although the AFC East has the most (4), but that was just the Pats four times, so it's not like the rest of the division has been doing much since the Bills were losing four in a row 15 years back. Just sayin'.

Great post.

However, in Super Bowl XLI, the Bears beat the Colts uniform. Easily. I mean, look at those ridiculous truncated stripes on the Colts. It's like going to the prom all dressed up with a big zit on your nose.
You are SO on the money there. It has always bothered me that the Colts (who introduced the double shoulder loop to pro football, for pete's sake) don't insist Nike do a better job of keeping that look alive. They're no longer loops at all, just "forward-facing shoulder stipes." I mean, who's the boss here? C'mon, Colts, man up and tell Nike to get down off their damn pedestal and do it right.

Horseshoes? Is that something official or are you joking? I really don't understand the logic that "a letter is not a logo". So you also hate the Bear's "wishbone 'C'", and countless colleges that use "just a letter"?. What about the Colts? Their helmet logo is a friggin' horseshoe? The "G", the "C" and the horseshoe are great because they are simple, clean, and show tradition. I'm not saying all old school logos are great. I will agree to a point the the Vikes helmet is cool with their horn, but what makes it better than the Pack's 'G'?
I'm with you on this. Gimme a single, tastefully-rendered letter (or two, in the case of the Giants & 49ers) over something that a focus group decides "has attitude" any day. Best logo in the NFC South? The vaguely robotic-looking panther or falcon? No. The jolly roger? Of course not. The simple fleur-de-lis kicks all their asses.
Not sure why no love for the Cowboys royal blue from Super Bowl V. I think the Cowboys' fans' superstitions play a part in any general disdain for that jersey, but its a great look in my opinion. I was a Colts fan and worshipped the traditional Colts unis, but like the Cowboys royal blue a lot.
As a longtime Cowboys fan, I KNOW that SB loss to the Colts is one of the reasons we hate the blue.
Jim O Brien, PK-WR, #80, from U of Cincinnati.
I will not forget that name.
Ricko -that Veryl Switzer looks a lot like an Eagle, but Football Reference shows him to be a Packer in '54 and '55 and then out of football. Interesting.
There are other Bowman cards from that year showing players who hadn't been anyting but Packers up until then (such as Billy Howton) in that same white jersey.

I've always heard Butkus was screaming for help - here's one (DISCRETION ADVISED) picture of Butkus standing over Hughes - the Bears were in the block numbers they wore for a couple of years.

Interesting to see a picture of Starr w/green-gold piping around the collar, which I just despise out of the Packers current uniforms. I have a Starr replica, without the dang collar strips - favorite jersey that I own...
