From what I could tell, there were no comments last night about this amazingly awful uni-matchup in the Nike, er, Emerald Bowl. Definitely the clubhouse leader for worst pairing of the bowl season.
They are replaying that horror on espn2 right now. I don't think I've ever seen a more horrid uni game. Cal's colors make it bad enough but the stupid stripe details. I don't see a lot of college games so I'm wondering if they wear these every game?
Oh, they do.

And it's horrifying.

Especially when you lose.
Number 32 for the Chargers tonight had his uni number professionally screened or embossed on the far upper part of his chinstrap. Is this new and unusual or is my new HD set starting to pay dividends though it puts me years behind those who have had it for some time now? Sorry, no screen grab.
that's pretty common now. i first started noticing the numbers written on there a long time ago but i think the numbers being stamped on there started just a couple years ago. could be wrong, though.

OK. Went to the Chargers' web site and found a gallery from tonight's game. http://www.chargers.com/fan_zone/photo-gallery/slideshow_20081228.htm Pretty good photo of Rivers in pic #12 that shows his 17 on his chin strap. I just had never seen that before...

i correctly guessed polo for ball no. 14, but i don't see how SI can identify it as "outdoor polo" when the clue clearly mentions being played indoors. do they really play horse polo indoors?

also, the clue for no. 5 (croquet) names darryl zanuck as an expert, but while there are mentions of zanuck's croquet expertise on the internet, by far the more references are to his playing polo.
