Happy Holiday everyone.

Color-on-color for tonight’s Illinois/Missouri basketball game in St. Louis (Illinois is designated as the home team and are wearing orange. Missouri is wearing black).

Which brings me to this. If the road team in college football can get penalized for not wearing the road white jerseys (USC and most recently Southern Miss), why doesn’t the home team in college basketball get penalized for not wearing white home jerseys?????

This goes back to the tradition in basketball to wear gold or silver at home. Orange (and even red) has morphed into that nether area of not quite home and not quite road jersey.

The pillbox helmet would not be a throwback, because the Pirates never wore them, only the pillbox hats. The gold helmet with black bill would be a throwback.

I don’t think any of us referenced it as a throwback. Just a cool idea.

Why not gold or black?

Shows much attention is paid to the Pirates since Bonds left town.

Tony: But the connection is to the Twins coaches’ helmets, as Paul described above, and the coaches were wearing throwbacks from the 1970s. It is a cool helmet, though.

As for the black jersey — I have seen that in years past, but not lately. The only alternate I’ve seen lately is the red one.

3. Scale yourself down. Go to a simple jersey set; road greys and home whites. Nobody buys your jerseys outside of Pittsburgh (and even then its a stretch) anymore so stop trying to push merchandise by creating another alternate.
4. Take all the money you saved from recycling those red jerseys into Primanti napkins, getting rid of the IDEA that anyone gives a crap about bobbleheads of Nyjer Morgan, only doing fireworks on the fourth of July like IT SHOULD BE….

AND BUY SOME BETTER PLAYERS!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Also, gotta say that Mike Williams is the kind of fan a team should be proud to have. The pillbox coaches helmet is one idea the Bucs should run with.

That said, it would have been cool if the Pirates had worn the pillbox helmet in the 1970s with the pillbox hats (and had gold and black versions of them).

I know of at least one other Pirates front office member, besides the aforementioned Dan Hart, who is a regular reader/contributor. However, she is extremely busy right now and the rest of the office is closed.

I’m not exactly sure how much I can say, but look for new jerseys to be unveiled at some point during the winter caravan/Piratefest. From what I hear, Tony in Erie is pretty close.

The bobbleheads have been greatly trimmed down, along with all the other garbage giveaways (collectible plates, etc.). Fireworks are not going anywhere. I have never seen a town go so stupidly bat-poo crazy for fireworks, no matter the date, time, or spectacle, as they do in Pittsburgh. Other teams actually have more fireworks nights than the Pirates. The Tigers had them after every Friday and Saturday night game last year.

I’m going to assume, that by the “buy better players” comment, he really meant “draft and develop better players” since that’s the only realistic option.

Just wanted to log a thumbs up to Mike Williams. I dig the hat and beard.

Since the Bucs never wore helmets like that, I’d have gone old-school with the helmets by suggesting Pirate coaches wear yellow helmets with black brims.

I only saw a tiny bit of this game, but it looked like the end zone (I only saw one of them) was exactly the same as it would be for a Chargers game, except that the yellow was painted over with orange. I’m talking about the one with the city’s name.
