watching LSU right now and wondering if there are any other college football teams that wear BOTH school name AND logo on their helmets?

maybe I'm still in a turkey-induced daze but I can't think of anyone else who does this.
I don't think they do this anymore, but Michigan State used to have the block "S" on one side of the helmet and Sparty on the other side.

Which kind of makes me wonder...how did MSU get away with the monopoly on the simple block "S" and letting everyone refer to them as "State"?

I mean, they go by simply "State" on their b-ball jerseys, no "Michigan" modifier needed...and when they did have both "Michigan" and "State" on the jersey in 2000, the national championship year, the "Michigan" print was really tiny.

And all the other big D-I "State" schools always, ALWAYS use another modifier when abbreviating: K-State, OKState, NC State, Penn State, etc. MSU is the only one, it seems, that people just call "State" on a national level (ie, on Sportscenter highlights and such).

I'm a pretty big MSU fan but for some reason I've always wondered why they were the first ones to think of using the block "S" and why whenever anyone sees a block "S" they think of MSU (and vice versa)...
"...with 200,000 people, your walker may get bumped a few times.
"I had to get one in!"

Ah, you young snipperwhapper...you never had the thrill of playing baseball in flannel when it was 95 degrees and humid. Then again, you never got to hear Dizzy Dean tell you how the runner "slud into third" or hear him sing Wabash Cannonball, either.

Any Brooklyn Dodger fans out there? I was digging through my stuff this week and found an old 45rpm record of that chart-busting single, "Johnny Podres Has a Halo 'Round His Head."

"...he knocked those great big Yankees stone-cold dead.
His great pitchin' saved the day,
Johnny Boy went all the way.
Johnny Podres has a halo 'round his head."

Now them is some great lyrics, huh.

Wow.

I've heard <em>about</em> that one, but I've never heard it. Any chance you could make an MP3?
I was at the Badger Hockey game tonight. The repeating item around the bottom is the badger claw footprint logo. I thought it was a pretty sharp jersey, but it could have used some sleeve striping or something. It felt a little plain to me. The numbers looked good, even with the subtle black drop shadow.

Hopefully these pictures work:

Is the Adidas logo on the first guy's knee a part of his own sock choice, or something that everyone conflictingly wears?

Switch the paws out for a thin- thick -thin white stripe at the hem and you have a winner.

I'm sorry, but that's not a pattern that you can use for a hemline. You need something geometric and repeating to pull that off.

Oh, Pittsburgh people...

How far off campus is Heinz Field?

With Gophers going back on campus next year I was thinking about how many BCS teams play off-campus. UCLA, I suppose. Miami? Others?
About five miles. They bus kids from the campus in the Oakland section of town (where Pitt is) to Heinz Field on the North Side (or Shore if you prefer)

It was a big controversial thing in the burgh when it first happened. A lot of alumni hated the idea of not only tearing down Pitt Stadium but moving the field off campus. However, the rebirth of the baseketball program and the beautiful Petersen Events Center being built on the site where the stadium used to stand, combined with the football program's ability to share not only a pro stadium but workout facilities as well with the Steelers has outweighed the negatives.

There are still those that poo poo them playing off campus at Heinz Field but I think more accept it now. My brother for one, was a hardcore anti-Heinz Field move but now he's cool with it.

I don't think Heinz Field itself is a very good stadium, but it's the fact that they share the practice complex with the Steelers that makes it such a draw for college kids. That is a world class facility.

I'm apathetic to being on campus or off. The years I went to games at Pitt Stadium, the program sucked. Therefore, my memories are bad. My brother, on the other hand, was at Pitt during a good era and at the height of the end of the series with Penn State (not counting that mini-series in the late 90s). I'm sure that's why his feelings were different.

As an alum and season ticket holder, I'm much more passionate about the school going back to the old PITT script and colors.
It would have been a lot cheaper to put a dome over Pitt Stadium, put actual seats in everywhere and keep the football team on campus. But that would just make too much sense.

How far off campus is Heinz Field?

With Gophers going back on campus next year I was thinking about how many BCS teams play off-campus. UCLA, I suppose. Miami? Others?
Baylor has its own football stadium, but it's located south and west of the actual campus in Waco. It might be the only BCS school with a dedicated stadium NOT on campus, since the Rose Bowl, Heinz, etc are multi-use facilities.
Autzen Stadium is off campus as well, you're not the only one there. That and the Moshovsky Center.
Paul,

I have to ask, what are the items below the turkey in the roasting pan that Scout used? Are those beets? They look too big to be shallots. I cook for a large group and would love to know, they look divine being roasted below the turkey in its juices.

i am pretty sure they were the potatoes we saw sliced up next to the turkey on the serving plate
