In case you missed it — and judging by the number of posts Uni Watch gets on women’s professional golf, you did — Annika Sorenstam concluded her golfing career on Friday, after the second round of the LPGA ADT Championship at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Fla. Sorenstam failed to make the cut in the last tournament of her storied career.
She is perhaps the greatest women’s golfer ever. It’s hard to argue with the final numbers: 72 LPGA victories and 17 more on other tours. The total of 89 is one more than the record 88 PGA events won by Kathy Whitworth. She won 10 majors and won 43 of 104 LPGA events between 2001 and 2005. But she failed to make the cut (for only the tenth time in her career) in her final tourney. And to add insult to injury, she was drug-tested afterwards. Thanks for playing.
Now, golfers don’t wear uniforms (unless they’re on a high school or college team or playing for their country), and while Annika’s outfits were always splendid, this “authentic” is my favorite (although that cap is atrocious). The “59″ on her uniform denotes a 59 she shot in tourney play.
So now that Annika moves on to greener pastures (she wants to give the tour a break and start a family), who will take her place as the greatest golfer of her generation? Some candidates: Lorena Ochoa, Anna Rawson, Natalie Gulbis, Paula Creamer (a/k/a the “Pink Panther), or Christie Kerr. Or how about Christina Kim. Maybe no one will ever equal the talent and ability of Annika, but it will be fun to see them try. I know I’ll be (uni) watching.
“You’re playing golf and you’re going to like it.”
Notes & Quotes: • Got a “worst uni matchup” (simply defined as, the worst two attired teams playing each other, in any sport, for the preceding week)? Send it to me [phecken (at) yahoo.com] and make sure to include a pic of the game. I’ll run some of the best worst submissions each weekend. •• Upset alert: Will Jevon Kearse need to find a clever way to display “11-0″? I don’t think so. ••• Don’t forget the “Canadian Super Bowl” (the Grey Cup) is tonight, you can watch it on Versus in the States. — Phil

Anyway, There was a comment last night that mentioned the Leafs wearing their white alts at home. That makes the third straight game for Chicago wearing their home reds on this road trip (Phoenix, Dallas, Toronto).
The Stars also wore their white alts, but the Coyotes didn’t appear to be doing anything special like a white-out, so it makes me wonder if somebody screwed up and forgot to pack the white sweaters thinking that the Hawks were playing 3 teams that were planning to wear white instead of just the 2, forcing the Coyotes to wear their whites.

Also- Re: Annika
I think she’ll be back, full strength in a couple years. She’ll have a baby, get him/her enrolled in golf school, and start winning again. She is definitely the most recognizable LPGA golfer of all time. Probably the 1st to truly transcend the sport. She has not been the best LPGA golfer the last few years- That’s been Lorena Ochoa. Lorena had a stretch in 2007-2008, winning 15 LPGA tourneys. That’s insane. I saw Rawson, Gulbis & Creamer at an LPGA event. Hottest, Hot, and Hot… in that order.

Anyway, I’ve got a question for you (and any other football official that might be reading): in the Bears-Rams game, the Rams faked a punt and the punter threw an incomplete pass. The Bears defender clearly hit the receiver early, but the referee explained that there was no pass interference because the Rams were in punt formation. Is that a rule that’s unique to the NFL?

In NCAA there’s a similar rule that prevents a defensive pass interference call on a ball thrown “high and deep” from a scrimmage kick formation.
Without this rule, a potential punter could throw the ball high into the air like a punt and the defense, not realizing it was thrown as a pass, would try to get under it to catch it and inevitably run into the potential offensive receiver, drawing a flag.
No such rule in high school.

Once upon a time, CFL uniforms looked pretty normal. No bibs, no piping, no pointless contrasting panels all over the place.
Starting in 2004, Reebok got the contract to design and make all the uniforms. Presto – instead of traditional uniforms, we get weird, pointless piping, odd little patches of colour, really weird stuff.
http://www.strategym...
From the article – “the league is hooking up with Reebok to help it connect with the 18-to-24 demo through a full line of CFL lifestyle apparel”
Not much different than a lot of NHL teams with the Reebok redesign – weird stripes, really strange stuff.
The only exception is Montreal – they had that weird patchwork of red, blue, silver, white before Reebok came along and IIRC are the only team that didn’t change their design in 2005.
