Something about this photo struck me. I think it was the amount of “three stripes.” Holy crap, it’s everywhere. And speaking of the three stripes, I found a good story here about who owns stripes. Short version: Adidas owns stripes, and because of that, Adidas owns the NBA, WNBA, and MLS. Stripes everywhere. Even swooshes aren’t that bad. — Bryan

We were talking last night about buying embroidered patches and making our own one-off hats, tees, sweatshirts and hoodies.
Well, here’s another source:
http://stores.ebay.c...
I bought a Dodgers hat patch from her, ironed it onto a good navy blank, added a right-facing serif to the “A” (bad amateur seamstress, LOL), painted the A red with acrylics and–presto–a hat from the 1957 Pacific Coast League LA Angels.
Now, if only I could afford this jersey to with it…

Looks like duck feet, which would make adding feathers only natural. Ought to paint lower portion of face masks yellow, too, like a bill. Maybe just a little tuft of a tail on the pants, too.
Riiiiiiiiiight.
Oregon in the years right before they added the black (forest helmets with only yellow, forest and white unis and they pretty much stuck with monotone; NOT the Akili Smith era) was a fun look and, at the time, unique. I miss that look. Now they’re a bit, um…much.

I wouldn’t buy an NFL jersey for anything cause of the big Reebok logo plasted all over the place. I’m not a Reebok billboard. Now if they want to start paying me, that’s cool, but…

When done right, the three stripes can look good when incorporated into a jersey design, like the Red Bulls jerseys in the pic at the top of the page.
I’ve got a late-90s Bayern München jersey that’s similar to this one except that it’s got a collar and the blue is limited to the sleeves. There are no armpit panels. I like the way it looks.
However, this is not a good look.

LarenR posted this last night:
I think we’ve talked about the A-11 offense before, but the NY Times had an interesting angle. I know there are some HS refs out there. Have any of you seen it? Is it impossible to call?
On a uni-related note: check out the socks on Piedmont. Too bad they’re purple and will be disavowed by PL.
I have NEVER seen nor heard of this offense. However, the first thing a Line Judge or Head linesman looks for when the offense(A) comes to the line of scrimmage is that there are:
1. At least 7 men on the LOS
or
2. No more than 4 players behind the LOS
or
3. 5 players within the “Tackle Box” numbered 50-79. This makes them inelible to receive as well as if they are covered up by an outside receiver.
Also, Tyrod Taylor of VaTech wore the Revolution Speed last night:

Well said, Bryan. I think the 3-stripes are far more offensive than anything the Swoosh Monsters have done. Every MLS kit has the look, leaving so little to creativity. It’s like the whole league is Team Adidas, with different colors for each team. And they’ve been doing it for ages. Check out the photos from the 2002 World Cup between Turkey and China ( http://news.bbc.co.u...). Totally identical uniforms, opposite colors. Maddening. At least Nike is a little more creative with their templates. Yes, the 3 stripe look is pretty cool, but not when it’s on EVERY kit they make.

I know it’s exciting, and everything, but I see “front-runner” looking dudes all over that arena tonight. I was at the Trop during the last series Cal Ripken played and Namoli came out on the field and was booed for about 5 min straight while he was presenting Ripken with his gifts. Sternberg is trying his best to distance himself from Namoli the best he can. Sorry about the rant but comments like your just piss me off to no end. Interesting: In 2005, the Chicago White Sox and Houston Astros met in the World Series, resulting in all geographic indicators absent from hats.
In 2008, the TB Rays and Phillies will square off, meaning there will be no city name on any World Series jersey. Furthermore, unless the BP jerseys inexplicably get out of the closet, there will be no softball tops this year. Just white (or cream) vs gray. And speaking of cream, if they were to be worn, it would be New Uniform That Didn’t Exist Last Year vs Other New Uniform That Didn’t Exist Last Year.
Have no idea what this means, but sorry in advance for spoiling a line from Mr Lukas’ Uni Watch WS preview that may or may not happen. Just thought it would be cool to point out.

Do you think the Yankees were filling the Stadium in the late 1980s? And the Red Sox had some mediocre crowds at Fenway in the early 1990s. Fans everywhere come out when teams win and stay away when they lose.

Man, they must think that the New England area rules the fucking sports world. Last year it was Pats as SB champs, now Sawx as AL champs….

The story with the Alstott Jersey. The orange jersey is from his rookie year. (1996) For his first two home games his jersey was mispelled. This was intentional. It was the first jersey he ever wore in the NFL.

I’m sick of this. The team is 11 freakin years old. During any 10 year losing stretch for any other team attendance sucked. This is the way fan bases are built. Our city just hates Shitty owners who are only looking to put money in their own pockets and not at least try to put a winner on the field.

I honestly don’t know how the fans in Pittsburgh deal with it. Don’t know what the feeling is in KC. Hugh Culverhouse and Vince Namoli were two of the absolute worst owners in major US sports history.

You don’t deserve a winner
You deserve to have your team in a more deserving market… Even Tampa’s minor league franchises (namely, Durham) has more loyal fanbases than the Rays.
Pathetic

They absolutely SUCKED their first 10 years. Hence no one showed up to games. Certainly that can’t be a surprise. This happens all over MLB. A team doesn’t win, they don’t draw. Why so much hatred towards the Rays……?
And since they’re in the playoffs, there’s naturally going to be more demand for tickets. Duh. Why exactly does that piss you off?
Beardface said:
Well gee, let me see. You were going on and on and on the other day about the Carolina Hurricanes’ colors, you praise the Durham Rays minor-league affiliate for having a loyal fanbase, I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that a “more deserving market” you would love to see the Rays franchise relocated to is somewhere in the Carolinas.

I’m going to keep this as civil as I can. What do you know about the Tampa area? Pretty damn sure nothing. The city has 3 pro teams for a grand total of 59 cumulative years between them. Sorry our teams have not been around since the early 1900’s. Seems odd to me that even with bandwagon fans(which to you is essentially every single person who goes to a sporting event) Between the Rays and the Bucs tonight there were 105,284 Fans in seats tonight. the total population the the City of Tampa is just above 300k.

And the other 200,000 of them were retirees that weren’t going to go out anyway. That’s pretty damn impressive.

Can you elaborate, please? How do you know this? Was it reported somewhere? Did they explain it on the P.A. system during the ceremony? Details, please.

Yes, yes you are with your holier-than-thou attitude. You are just pissed because the Rays beat the Sawks and their Nation of asswipes.
Talk about bandwagoneers, The Nation is the worst bunch of bandwagoneers on the planet.
Go find a pink hat to wear while singing Sweet Caroline while I’m watching the Rays in the World Series.

Paul I have no photographic proof. I wasn’t at the game tonight so I’m not sure about the P.A. announcemets at the stadium. But I do remember it. It was still a dark time in the limited Bucs history so it’s hard to find.
