Fort Wayne team
becomes TinCaps
FORT WAYNE — When Parkview Field opens next season, Fort Wayne’s Midwest League baseball team will take the diamond with the name TinCaps it was announced Thursday.
The TinCaps moniker is a reference to the beloved pioneer Johnny Appleseed, who was known for wearing his tin cooking pot upon his head. The primary logo will be an apple wearing Johnny’s trademark Tin Cap.

I am figuring out how to link so this is a test:

Finally got to Paul’s article on Shea. I found it very entertaining, showing the quirky side instead of the usual claptrap. Shea and I were born two week apart and even thought I never saw fit to route for the home team, most of the time, I enjoyed the many trips across the W-Stone.

Couple thing specifically caught my eye.
This photo in particular.
● It’s not only from the first game of the miracle season but it is the first game in Montreal Expos history.
● Wondering why the flag is at half-staff the first week of 1969?
● Interesting pairing of “Meet The Comer” next to the “10 Minute Head” advertisement. Subliminally related?
● Also, it reminded me of one thing that I hated about Shea for years. On the out-of-town scoreboard, the Mets didn’t list the pitchers uniform numbers but a 1 through whatever numerical coding that could only be cracked by purchasing a program. Always thought that was lame and at some point so did the Mets.

Paul stated that “Shea was the first stadium specifically designed for dual-sport use”. Maybe semantics, but technically wouldn’t D.C. Stadium would have that designation? It opened in 1961 (for the Skins, ’62 for baseball). Perhaps the patent for the Shea design was slightly different than the system used in D.C. Stadium as they configured differently, but DC definitely had the movable stands that configured for football & baseball.

This shot of the excavation reminded me of how bad the playing surface was for most of the early years. Always heard it was because of where it was built, very marshy. So much so that Yanks’ outfielder Elliott Maddox knee injury resulted in this: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh189/lwiedy/Maddox.jpg I couldn’t find any research to support Maddox’s three years on the Mets payroll as a form of settlement ;-)

Finally, Paul failed to mention that Shea (named for William Shea) bore a remarkable resemblance to Che Stadium (named for Cuban guerrilla leader Che Guevara), site of the Pre-Fab Four’s first American concert!
So, The Onion has a humorous article about the Mets. I guess they could go the superhero route too. At least there's no black.
Good Post! So funny, I sent that to about 6 people yesterday and forgot about the UNI board.

Well, there was no anti-rain dance, but there wasn't enough rain to prevent a huge Mets win!

Ryan Braun, Braunie, or Brauny... They call him that sometimes on TV, and Uecker has called him that too, so I;m not the only one.

He is also sometimes known as the Hebrew Hammer.
