It’s a PARTNERSHIP. Reebok takes the biggest stars under contract and markets them for the union. They make money, the union makes money, the player gets a sniff. That’s how it works. The entire NFLPA is signed to that contract, and Reebok can pick and choose who they want to mass-produce jerseys for based upon supply and demand. You market what’s popular because that’s what the consumer wants. Supply and demand. If the demand is there, you supply it to make money. If you can supply a lot of them, you’ll make a lot of money in a hurry. For all you capitalists, this should be elementary.

You wanna know why Chad Pennington and Joey Harrington and Ryan Leaf jerseys are on the backs of African kids? Because they can’t be sold. No one wants them. It’s not Reebok’s fault that the player sucks. They rolled the dice, and they lost in the regard. That’s where a write-off comes in. They can’t sell those jerseys because there is no demand. You write them off, and take the hit on the product. That’s a risk in the supply and demand chain that businesses face everyday.

But Ocho Stupido decided to change his name. That’s completely different since he’s still a very popular player, and now Reebok has to eat $4 million in “Johnson” jerseys, and put out an additional $4 million in “Ocho Cinco” jerseys. That’s double the hit. If they simply told the public “we’re going to charge you double the price on an Ocho Cinco jersey due to that player’s ultimate stupidity and vanity”, consumers would be outraged. Reebok doesn’t want to eat $4 million in cost when it could have sold all of those jerseys had “The New OC” not pulled the carpet out from under Reebok’s feet.

Reebok and the NFLPA were attempting to capitalize on the supply and demand aspect of the business when “Morono Stupido” decided that he needed he a new name. Reebok’s loss is entirely his fault, and he should be responsible for that aspect of his decision.

If he had gotten married, there still wouldn’t be an issue because legally he can still go by his professional name. I’m sure you’ve heard of a guy named Gene Simmons. Not his real name. Not even close. Is still called by his Yiddish name by his mom. But we all call him Gene Simmons because that’s how we know him. He is legally allowed to sign as Gene Simmons on bank notes and whatever else, but it’s not his name. Why couldn’t he simply have been Chad Ocho Cinco off the field? Is that too much to ask? Or maybe change it at the end of the season before Reebok rattles off another 100,000 jerseys rather than at the start of the season.

The key in this whole thing is that the union, who is supposed to support the player, hasn’t stepped in. Why? Because they don’t want to ruin the partnership with Reebok. Big business wins out over one player’s vanity. Since labor unions are an “all for one, one for all” situation, why shouldn’t Ocho Stupido pay? Personally, if I’m the judge presiding over this case, I’d tell Ocho Stupido to get his checkbook ready.

After listening to Rovell on the radio this afternoon on Prime Time Sports in Canada – it seems the the figure is more like $750K, not $4.8MM. And apparently since the jersey deal is part of the Group Licensing Agreement, that makes him responsible for it. If he didn’t want to be a part of it and get paid for all of the jeresys with his name or be on football cards, posters and etc. – all he had to do is pull a Lavar Arrington and cross out the clause in the Standard Player Contract – but then he wouldn’t be on anything – and he wouldn’t get paid for that.

The real kicker here is – I find this really funny – is that Johnson is in Reebok’s stable as an endorser and didn’t think to contact them to give them a heads up about this

The key is that RBK “pick(ed)and choose” to make a ton of the idiots jersey. I think he’s a moron, but its not his fault.

Never realized the Vikings ever went with such a plain jersey. In the first picture you have sleeve stripes and the numbers are outlined. In the other two pictures, jerseys are puple with white numerals. No stripes or outlines.

Those Black Hurricanes jerseys are really sharp looking for a black jersey, nice shoulder patches good for fashion only but they should’ve kept the red pants and helmets. The actual jersey is similar to the senators black alternate from a few years ago.
