With NCAA football back in full swing, this is a good time to talk about a really great book series that some of you may already know about: the College Vault series, an ongoing program of volumes, each one devoted to the history of a particular school’s football program. It’s a pretty damn impressive series, for reasons that go way beyond the quality of the writing (not bad) and photos (quite good).
Here’s the deal: The College Vault books aren’t just books — they’re more like scrapbooks, only really high-end ones. Each edition comes in a clipcase. Once you start paging through the book, you’ll find that almost every spread has some sort of bonus memorabilia item: old tickets inside of pasted-in envelopes, schedules tucked into pockets (all of which can be removed and fondled, natch), postcards (here’s another view, and here are some additional examples), hidden slots that reveal old brochures (here’s the flip side), taped clippings, more tickets, and even a mini-pennant (here’s a full view).
Naturally, none of it is original, but the reproductions appear to have been done with a good eye for detail, and it’s fun to discover all the different treasures waiting in the various pockets and slots. It’s more like a toy than a book. And as a former book editor, I can tell you that all those pockets and envelopes and inserts must have been a total beast to produce. I’m frankly surprised that the books list for only $50 (and go for more like $35 to $39 on Amazon).
All the pics shown above are from the Notre Dame Vault. I also have Michigan (here’s a slideshow) and Ohio State (sorry, no photos, but you get the idea). They’re all very nice, but I’m not a huge fan of any of those teams — or of any other college football team, frankly — so I’ve decided to unload them. Let’s try this: If we can get 20 new enrollees in the membership program by the end of next week, I’ll raffle all three of them off (oh, and for what it’s worth, we’re just a few enrollees away from our 600th member, which means someone will be getting a special seal on his or her card); if not, I’ll offer them for sale at a discounted price. Cool? Cool.
Research Project: “Went to the Mariners game on Tuesday night with Neyer,” says Jeff Bower. “One question that came up was this: “Who was the first ballplayer to have a tilde used in his NOB? We figured you would know the answer or be insane enough to track it down. I guessed Alex Treviño.”
I can’t recall if we’ve covered this before, but I agree that Treviño (who according to this page began wearing the tilde in 1980) is a likely candidate. If you know of any earlier examples, speak up.
Uni Watch News Ticker: Several people wrote in to tell me that one of the officials in Sunday’s Browns/Cowboys game appeared to be wearing non-standard socks, but only Brendon Yarian came up with a photo. … Tons — and I mean tons — of great old Shea Stadium photos (including lots of Jets-related images, and a link to some 1964 amateur film footage) can be found in this thread. … Good uni-related content on this U. of Wisconsin Q&A page (with thanks to Matt Brukman). … Alternately fascinating and horrifying article here about the Collegiate Licensing Company’s product-screening process (with thanks to Nathan Gemignani). … The Colts PR dept. has informed me that the patch they wore on Sunday night was a one-time deal to mark the opening of the stadium. It won’t be worn again (which means enough space to erect a small office tower will now open up on the team’s jersey). … Here’s the latest re: Devin Hester’s number. … Speaking of the Bears, according to this item, “A source said [Bears] players lobbied Lovie Smith to wear the [white-on-white] combination all season on the road instead of their blue pants,” although it’s not clear if Smith has granted the request. Personally, I have no probably with the white pants, but they need to wear them with the proper socks, instead of these (with thanks for Bob Stokas). … If you’re dying to have a game-worn Cerveceros jersey, look here (with thanks to Jeff Ash, who’s also put together a photo gallery from a 1941 Packers/Lions game). … New Xavier logo style sheets here (with thanks to Adam McCracken). … Pretty damn complete overview of the NFL’s captaincy situation here (with thanks to Trevor Williams). … Awesome-looking (but overpriced) catalog here. … Here’s a good look at the patch that college football officials are wearing (it’s just barely visible on the ref’s left sleeve; thanks to Conor Clougherty for the patch photo). … Interesting find by Matt Powers, who stumbled across this shot of a kid wearing a DNA facemask on a non-DNA helmet. … FNOB alert: Joe Washington (thanks, Ricko). … What the hell is this? It’s the Single Speed [biking] World Championship, of course. Details here, photo gallery here, and literally hundreds of additional photos here. … Here’s something I’d forgotten about until I stumbled across it in an old yearbook: Ralph Kiner, in addition to broadcasting Mets game, also served on occasion as a spring training hitting instructor, complete with a Mets uniform. That shot is from 1971. Dig the fancy-shmancy “video replay machine.” … The White Sox hosted “Blackhawks Night” on Tuesday, resulting in this scene. … Further evidence of Cool Base armpit yellowing (as documented by eagle-eyed Nicole Haase). … James Ballow just “won” — if you can call it that — this futuristic Angels jersey. … Totally stinkin’ rich guys Warren Buffet and Jack Welch bought and sold the entire fucking country while you weren’t looking threw and caught the first pitch at Fenway the other night (video clip here). Buffet wore a No. 1/16 jersey for the occasion, which refers to the fraction of his net worth that would be needed to purchase the Red Sox, Fenway, and Theo Epstein’s gorilla costume. … New Maple Leafs center ice treatment here. … Here’s a new (to Uni Watch) shot of Dave Kingman wearing white shoes. … And check out Seaver and Gentry inspecting the field after the postgame carnage following the 1969 World Series win. … My Page 2 colleague Kurt Snibbe did some fun logo tweaking the other day. … Someone Doesn’t Get It™ (but Stu Taylor does). …The Hurricanes have unveiled their new third jersey, which will look like this. John Muir wonders if they got their inspiration from Team Canada. … Should’ve mentioned earlier this week that last weekend’s Virginia Tech throwbacks looked great (thanks to K. Zane Tuck for the reminder). … Expect MLB teams to be wearing the star-spangled caps tonight. But the Mets have an off day, so they wore the caps last night. … Surprising that nobody had mentioned this until now, but Matt Powers notes that Ladainian Tomlinson’s new facemask is arguably even scarier than the one he wore last year. … Remember how the NFL said Chad Whatshisname had to settle “a financial obligation to Reebok” before he could wear his new name on his jersey? Turns out that obligation is huge (thanks to Minna H.). … Yet another example of a minor league team wearing shorts. “The team is Ft. Worth Cats,” writes Josh Jarmon. “The team wore the shorts during a few exhibition games prior to the 1950 season. The player in the picture is future MLB manager Dick Williams. The photo is from the book Baseball in Ft. Worth, by Mark Presswood and Chris Holaday.

What the hell was that uniform Warren Buffett was wearing? I can’t find a year when the Sox had pinstripes at home with the name across the front.

The story about “Miami” wearing black at home is really about the Carolina Hurricanes. That’s Eric Staal… the evidently not well enough known face of the franchise… in the picture wearing the jersey whose crest is the secondary logo the Canes have been wearing on their shoulders since at least last year. There is no actual reference to Miami in it at all. It’s also coming from a North Carolina paper.

My question re: Senor Ocho…why don’t the Bengals just give him an “Ocho Cinco” jersey to wear and say, “Sorry, the league rules require us to put the players’ legal names on the jersey.” If they want to kowtow to Reebok, what’s stopping anyone from trying the “He Hate Me” route and using the “Johnson is not his legal name, either” as their defense (well, besides common sense, of course.)

“If Reebok asked Ocho Cinco to pay for the cost of making the unsold jerseys, the total could reach upwards of $4 million (or $50 million pesos).”
So what we can figure from that it that at most it costs Reebok $40-$45 to make a replica jersey??? I think Ocho Stinko is getting ripped off in that deal. They can’t cost more than $10 – $15 to produce in those quantities.

The best part about Warren Buffett going full-uni for that first pitch was that it wasn’t the first time he’s done it. We (at the newspaper) have pictures of him in various Omaha Royals uniforms, too.
And a couple of years ago, when LeBron James was in town for a consultation with the Great and Powerful Oz, Buffett came to the lunch meeting in a full Cavaliers uniform … including a headband and the high-tops.

“Ladainian Tomlinson’s new facemask is arguably even scarier than the one he wore last year.”
Serious question here…can players just up and design whatever look of facemask they so choose? Does the NFL have to approve at some point? If LDT is going to wear some unique mask every year, I’m sure there are going to be other players trying to out-do him. Here’s a thought…why doesn’t he add studs or spikes to the front of his mask to ward off hapless defenders who attempt hands-to-the-face? (ok, so that last part wasn’t so serious). But seriously…what’s the deal here?
#26 by bobwool on 09.11.08 10:07 am |
Players changing their name occurs occasionally. I remember about 10-12 years ago a Browns/Ravens WR changing his name from Michael Jackson to Dyson (turns out for just one game). I don’t remember hearing that he had to buy out any existing jerseys. Back in 2006 CB William Peterson changed his name to William James, and again no mention that he had to buy any jerseys. I am not a fan of Chad, but this is a huge joke, and emplifies what the NFL (and their partners) is all about these days – greed.

#29 by mmwatkin on 09.11.08 10:17 am |
Chad Johnson changing his name is dumb.
What is even dumber is that Reebok wants him to pay for the existing merchandise. What if he was traded to a different team? What if he married and took on his wifes last name? Would he have to pick up the bill for the remaining jerseys in those situations? Probably not
What is even worse is that the NFL won’t let him wear his legal last name, even though they acknowledged it, until he settles the dispute with Reebok.
That should tell yo ueverything you have to know about who really runs the No Fun League these days.
That’s why I stick to College Football.

I can’t say much about the rest of the comment, but William James might not have had to buy back any Will Peterson jerseys because he hadn’t played football in over a year prior. It could also be because he changed his name when he left NY to play for the Eagles. They certainly don’t force players to buy old stock when they switch teams, so that may have had something to do with it.

why do all these teams that go to the unitard look (colored socks matching pants) have to have the socks that way? can’t they reverse them? IOW, can the skins wear burgundy socks on top of white tights (or high white socks)?
of course, this might look even MORE horrible, but i don’t understand why the current system seems to be the ‘only way’ … is it because “that’s the way we’ve always done it”?

the supposed “financial obligation” to reebok for changing chad johnson’s name makes no sense. if that were an issue, teams would owe sports apparel companies huge sums when they changed uniforms (or even tweak them, as they do so often these days). in fact, changing uniforms has been often described (in this very space) as a way to generate ADDED revenue, as fans have to keep updating. think how many new “ocho cinco” jerseys would sell, including to fans who already own “c. johnson” jerseys and so desperately “need” to keep up. did kobe make any settlement when reebok (who i believe was still making nba uniforms at the time) when he changed from 8 to 24?
this is a smoke screen for the nfl’s lack of humor.

a hurricane flag is displayed when winds are between 55 and 73 mph, indicating a “storm/whole gale warning”…and 2 hurricane flags are displayed when winds exceed 74 mph (hurricane strength) and is known as a “hurricane warning”
ergo…2 hurricane flags are the proper demarcation for “hurricanes”

I think the issue is not that Chad changed his name as much as WHEN he changed it. He waited until right before the season started so they already printed the jerseys for this year. If he would have done this months ago it probably wouldn’t have been an issue. Take into effect he is a very popular player so they pre-make lots of jerseys and the fact that the NFL isn’t too happy about him doing this and this is where we are at today.

As per the “why are they still selling jerseys with the old NFL logo on” argument, I bet outside of this blog, not many people even realized that they changed the logo. It wasn’t that big a change and it’s less obvious than a players NOB.
Also, if the NFL was OK with this you would think they would like the idea of the new named jersey. That way Bengal fans would buy a new jersey and there would be a race to see which rapper will wear it in their video first (which would lead to more exposure for the league.)

this is the first sensible response. all the same, it’s curmudgeonly of reebok and the nfl. touchdown dances and funny names aren’t going to keep anybody from watching games, and they won’t cut into anybody’s revenues.
another point about rivers is that rookies are regularly given different numbers as training camp rosters are trimmed and new numbers become available. randy moss wore 18 in the preseason his rookie year, and i’m sure reebok (or whatever company did the vikings back then) was expecting big sales from his jerseys and had to adjust. the overarching point i’m making is that this year (rivers and johnson) is the first instance i can recall of manufacturers dictating player names and numbers. –and again, my contention is that it isn’t really a financial matter, but corporate blandness overriding any sense of enjoyment.

Wow, talk about a busy day at work. Damn work getting in the way of my Uniwatching. I’ve been wanted to comment on the BOS and CAR third jerseys but this is the first time sitting at my desk since about 8am. Anywho…
Boston’s third – I like it. Could have been alot worse. Love the logo, and love how they kept the classic ‘B’ on the uni by putting it on the shoulder. Classy. If that Bruin head of years past showed up I was going to freak. But the leaked photos from eariler in the summer eased my worries. Think it could use some sort of stripe at the bottom though.
Carolina’s third – or should I say turd. What the HELL are those things?!?! Never was a fan of carolina’s unis, so it’s hard to imagine a third (turd) that I would like, but still… that franchise has taken a nose dive ever since leaving Hartford and the whale. And those socks! WTF! Those are not hockey socks. CAL, TB, and now CAR need to get a new sock design ASAP. That’s just horrible. Those black flags on the bottom look like they forgot to put red in them, doesn’t look right. Well the whole thing doesn’t look right. Looks like something Darth Vader would wear play hockey. Highly dissapointing. Might have to watch another game when they debut against the Red Wings, don’t think I can stand 3 periods of that crap…

I agree with the Bears wearing the white socks. Sock Stripes should either match the sleeves or the helmet. Now, since the socks are matching the sleeves, I think the stripes should come off the pants ala the Rams.
As far as the orange, get rid of them. However, if they must be, stay with the blue socks. They at least have the same pattern (just flip the orange and blue) as the orange sleeves.
The Bears have long been a team with distinctly different stripe patterns between home and away.

You’re joking, right? He didn’t ask them to be made? Do you know how players get their names on jerseys?
The NFLPA gets a cut of every jersey sold. It’s part of the licensing agreement. Therefore, they allow Reebok to make jerseys for all their biggest stars. Chad Johnson has no say in what Reebok makes, but, because he effed Reebok over, the union can’t protect him when the agreement causes Reebok to lose $4 million.
A partnership is exactly what Reebok and the NFLPA have, and both benefit from jersey sales of their stars. The union isn’t going to fork over $4 million, so the offending party – aka Ocho Stupido – will have to in order for the partnership to work.
Because NHL players like Wayne Gretzky have opted out of the union now that they are retired, the union doesn’t get a cut of the jerseys sold with their names on it. Instead, Rbk Hockey and Gretzky’s merchandise company have an agreement similar to what the union has.
Business is a complicated system, but no one loses in the licensing partnership. Except Ocho Stupido. And rightfully so.

With a few questions on pants and the hurricane flag, I’ll post what I posted on icethetics yesterday:
Flag was explained during the unveiling: It is a hurricane watch, two is a warning.
From somebody on the hurricanes boards refering to what hurricanes management said: ”
And for those who keep going on about one flag instead of two, it should finally be put to rest (thanks to the answer by the Canes at the press conference, and I just verified the answer at Wikipedia) – one flag still does signify a hurricane. One flag is a hurricane watch (meaning a hurricane can hit within 36 hours), and two flags is a hurricane warning (can hit within 24 hours). So yes, doubters, the one flag is still a hurricane.”
Last team to wear Different pants with an alt was the Canucks in 03-06- they had a light blue pair for the retro- nothing this dramatic. Before that set it was rangers in 03-04 with a blue pair for their 70’s throwbacks. Before that the last time was the rockies from 76-80, and the Kings from 70-79, both with home/away pants.
That’s not a common thing.
End previous post…
So 4 teams in history that have had more then one color pants, now 5. Not unprecedented though.

Hes in the union, part of that contract *allows* RBK to make jerseys. Ocho, never went ot RBK and said “make 10,000 of my jerseys” Knowing he’s a popular player they chose to make a ton of his jerseys, it’s their problem. I don’t like ocho, but he’s not in the wrong here. If he chose to randomly change his number maybe. He legally changed his name (for stupid reasons) the NFL says you have to use your real name, he’s not responsible for the stock issue. As someone pointed out, let say he got married and took her name, legally he could and the NFL can’t stop it and he should not be liable for old stock. If the NFL makes Hester change his number it shouldn’t fall on Hester to pay for the old stock either.

Yes, but you’re implying that by signing his contract that he, or any player for that matter, has any idea there’s a clause that says they’ll have to reimburse Reebok for any reason involving a name or number change. Did he sign it, obviously he did and this clause exists. But to say it makes sense is ridiculous. Chad had no idea that Reebok would choose to make so many of his jersey for sale in comparison to other players, why should he pay so much more than Rivers did? Because he’s popular? That’s BS and you know it, we all do. Reebok, like nay company for that matter produces product knowing full well it might any day become obsolete, it’s called risk management. But, in the end, Reebok’s got something in writing, so they did their homewrok, it’s a moo point. It’s like a cow opinion, it’s moo.

the whole ocho stupido (lol, teebz) thing is ridiculous…but…let me ask a stupid question or eight…
1) nfl said ‘no ocho cinco’ on your jersey, it’s not your legal name, yes?
2) c johnson legally changes his name to ocho cinco, yes?
3) nfl says ‘no ocho cinco’ EVEN THOUGH WE TOLD YOU IF IT IS YOUR LEGAL NAME YOU CAN HAVE IT, yes?
4) nfl/reebok are stuck with 50K “c johnson” jerseys, yes?
5) nfl/rbk say, ‘buy up our old stock or you can’t wear “ocho”‘, yes?
so…obviously no one (fault lies with CJ/OC) told him about the jersey codacil…but…
that’s bullshit…he LEGALLY changed his name (for whatever stupid reason he may have had…and it IS a big deal to do so…there’s more to it than just wanting “el jackasso” on your threads)…which is, supposedly (according to the NFL), ALL that is required to wear “OC”, no?
so fuck rbk/adidas…im sure they can get a writeoff for, and make good use of, those jerseys, (and imagine the PR) if they give all those jerseys to some size-XXXL somalian kids, right? they could claim the moral high ground (if not legal high ground) and make him look like a bigger ass than he already is, and STILL let him wear the stupid new monicker…which, if he took THEM to court, he prolly could win that right …

How about this. Considering the fact that Kiner and Conner were never coaches but instructors and players who NEVER wore those numbers ARE wearing them, it is possible this was during the fall instructional league session?
Although it was usually for minor leaguers, often big leaguers went to “instructs” to work on new things, rehab injuries, etc.
Also, it was common to outfit instructors in different unis (in this case, roads) to differentiate players from instructors.
Since regular sets were up in NY, recycled sets would be down in St. Pete for this use.
Just a theory.

If he’s part of the union, why isn’t the union defending him then? They helped him get his massive contract, so why can’t they help him out of this massive stupidity problem?
It’s a PARTNERSHIP. Reebok takes the biggest stars under contract and markets them for the union. They make money, the union makes money, the player gets a sniff. That’s how it works. The entire NFLPA is signed to that contract, and Reebok can pick and choose who they want to mass-produce jerseys for based upon supply and demand. You market what’s popular because that’s what the consumer wants. Supply and demand. If the demand is there, you supply it to make money. If you can supply a lot of them, you’ll make a lot of money in a hurry. For all you capitalists, this should be elementary.
You wanna know why Chad Pennington and Joey Harrington and Ryan Leaf jerseys are on the backs of African kids? Because they can’t be sold. No one wants them. It’s not Reebok’s fault that the player sucks. They rolled the dice, and they lost in the regard. That’s where a write-off comes in. They can’t sell those jerseys because there is no demand. You write them off, and take the hit on the product. That’s a risk in the supply and demand chain that businesses face everyday.
But Ocho Stupido decided to change his name. That’s completely different since he’s still a very popular player, and now Reebok has to eat $4 million in “Johnson” jerseys, and put out an additional $4 million in “Ocho Cinco” jerseys. That’s double the hit. If they simply told the public “we’re going to charge you double the price on an Ocho Cinco jersey due to that player’s ultimate stupidity and vanity”, consumers would be outraged. Reebok doesn’t want to eat $4 million in cost when it could have sold all of those jerseys had “The New OC” not pulled the carpet out from under Reebok’s feet.
Reebok and the NFLPA were attempting to capitalize on the supply and demand aspect of the business when “Morono Stupido” decided that he needed he a new name. Reebok’s loss is entirely his fault, and he should be responsible for that aspect of his decision.
If he had gotten married, there still wouldn’t be an issue because legally he can still go by his professional name. I’m sure you’ve heard of a guy named Gene Simmons. Not his real name. Not even close. Is still called by his Yiddish name by his mom. But we all call him Gene Simmons because that’s how we know him. He is legally allowed to sign as Gene Simmons on bank notes and whatever else, but it’s not his name. Why couldn’t he simply have been Chad Ocho Cinco off the field? Is that too much to ask? Or maybe change it at the end of the season before Reebok rattles off another 100,000 jerseys rather than at the start of the season.
The key in this whole thing is that the union, who is supposed to support the player, hasn’t stepped in. Why? Because they don’t want to ruin the partnership with Reebok. Big business wins out over one player’s vanity. Since labor unions are an “all for one, one for all” situation, why shouldn’t Ocho Stupido pay? Personally, if I’m the judge presiding over this case, I’d tell Ocho Stupido to get his checkbook ready.

Yeah, that statement is a load of crap. And went doesn’t have an apostrophe, Mr. College.
I went to Northwestern, which had a crappy team while I was there but was still in the Big Ten, generally held to be a real football conference. Seeing as it was the first major conference, formed in 1896. I’d been a Packers fan for most of my first 18 years.

I lived in Clemson for about 8 years starting around 1988. Purple was not an official color but had been worn in the 40’s or 50’s as an accent color and the fan base would always ask about maybe re-introducing it on sports call in shows, etc. After Danny Ford was shown the door Ken Hatfield (who was previously employed by Rice, a predominantly purple school)siezed on this and starting introducing it into the uniforms a little at a time until eventually wearing purple jerseys in a bowl game. He even had the team warm up in orange and change right before kick-off. If I remember correctly, it was early 90’s and the reaction was favorable. It continued as an accent color for a couple more years, making a special appearance here and there as a jersey, but these last few years under Bowden it’s almost become their primary color. Danny Ford didn’t even use the navy blue. Strictly Orange and white with thin black stripes surrounding wide white one on helmet, and outlining jersey numbers. Basketball team has always worn navy as an alternate road jersey, but I’m not sure if they’ve embraced the purple like the football team has.

Ben, I have noticed the increased use of purple at Clemson in recent years.
The national champs of … ‘81, right? … were my introduction to Clemson, and those all-orange unis had me thinking that was just black trim on the numerals. When purple started making a comeback, my first thought was “Orange and purple are the school colors?” But of course they are, so I withdrew my objection. (The one in the courtroom in my head, of course.)
And if navy is an official UNC school color, then I yield. Having only seen the Carolina blue and white, I thought the pants were akin to Barnett putting black into my alma mater’s uniforms in the ’90s.

Purple often looks black or navy blue on television, notably in years past when technology wasn’t as good as it is today (sometimes Vikings would look navy for an entire telecast, especially during the early years of he Merodome).
My point? I’d be willing to bet good money that the black on those Danny Ford era unis (or most any other Clemson team’s unis for that matter) was purple, not black or navy…but it sure as hell may have looked like one or the other on TV or even in person under some older indoor arena lighting.
I remember one year in the early 60s the Gopher basketball team wore white at home. From the stands at Williams Arena the lettering, trim and striping looked navy. I’d have SWORN it was navy, and couldn’t figured out WHY it would be. But up close, sure as hell, it was maroon.

However funny and appropriate the list of annoying questions was, Ben is right.
If we, in the know, respond to questions in a snarky tone, no newbies will ever become involved with the blog.
Had some of the old-timers done that to us when we were in their position, I’m sure we all would have told UW to go scratch!
So let’s have some patience, shall we?
Good form, Ben!

Never realized the Vikings ever went with such a plain jersey. In the first picture you have sleeve stripes and the numbers are outlined. In the other two pictures, jerseys are puple with white numerals. No stripes or outlines.

Honestly don’t mind the pants so much, cuz the road is where a team can mess around a bit. It’s the thought they’ll probably go to navy jerseys at home that bugs me. Powder helmet, navy jersey and white pants would look pretty good, actually, sort of a version of last week’s Illinois throwbacks. But wouldn’t look like North Carolina. Of course, I suppose that’s what they’re after.
A shame, though, more homogenizing—and limiting—of the color palette in sports uniforms.

Early and mid-70s became the era of the “hot weather” alernate jerseys in the NFL (especially in preseason) and for some NCAA teams. Mesh with nothing but numbers. I remember how odd the 49ers looked without their three stripes. I think those “stripeless” orange Auburn jerseys were an example of it, too.

Quick summary. That year NFL allowedteams to choose white or dark at home. Slighlty fewer than half the teams opted for white. The Lions screwed up and showed up for a game at The Met in white. Game begain with both teams in white, while Vikings’ equipment people hustled over to St. Paul’s Midway Staduium (where the Vikings practiced) to fetch the purple jerseys. Vikings changed on the sidelines and played, until last year, their only game ever in all-purple.

Flipping back & forth between the Cubs/Cards and Sox/Jays games, the home plate ump in St. Louis is definitely wearing a normal cap. Harder to tell with the ump in Chicago, though. I never saw a shot of him without the mask.

Could also be ties if you’re looking at old Goalie stats, since they’re credited with wins/ losses/OT losses/ and ties. Of course you don’t have ties anymore, but they remain in goalie stat lines.
But in standings it’s points. 2 points for a Win, 0 for a loss and 1 for an OT loss.

What would happen if Chad Johnson married a woman and took her last name?
Those Black Hurricanes jerseys are really sharp looking for a black jersey, nice shoulder patches good for fashion only but they should’ve kept the red pants and helmets. The actual jersey is similar to the senators black alternate from a few years ago.
