Kentucky went monochrome on Saturday, while Norfolk State most definitely did not. I really don’t like the all-blue look there — it’s the definition of unitard.
But Norfolk State … now you’re on to something. I’m guessing it’ll be a pretty polarizing look. Me, I like it in a low-budget high school sort of way. It’s different than everybody else, but probably because they were dug out of the old storage closet or something. Unfortunately, monochrome still wins. — Bryan

people bitch about monocrhome in football like its a crime. Bt in each ofhte other 4 major sports, monochrome is accepted and almost obligatory, (ya know except for the wizards gold disasters)
so why not in football? i think it looks just damn fine.
i’d rather see all blue broncos with the side piping than their disgusting Orange jerseys with white pants, and things of the like.

As to monochromatic, it really does depend on the color combination and the design, doesn’t it. To me, monochrome works best when it’s top-to-bottom, like the Broncos unis you show. But I find exceptions to that, too. West Virginia in all gold (with navy helmets) last year, for example. The were so freakin’ fast that it gave them a kind of “lightning in a bottle” look that worked. It’s all about what we each find pleasing…or displeasing. I know I just can’t get into a light helmet over dark jersey and dark pants (like that one Jets combo, or Oregon yesterday). Don’t know why, just looks odd, and low budget high school, to me.
Central Florida? Well, it IS a unique look, I’ll give them that. And they ARE the Golden Knights, right?

LOL. Not trying to change anyone’s mind here, just explaining.
Gotta be a generational thing. Has to do with how old you were when you starting noticing such things. For me and lotta guys my age and a bit younger, our kneejerk reaction is that a guy who shows up in black socks is a geek who doesn’t even own a pair of athletic socks. However, I’m getting used to them and in some cases they work great…on a team where black or navy (like Michigan; really like them with Michigan’s homes) is one of the team’s two predominant colors. In other words, to me black socks still look a little dippy and out of place on a team like Ohio State. Or Miami. Or Indiana. And probably always will.
Generally speaking, still like white laces in black shoes, too (if with white socks, of course) cuz back then black laces in plain black shoes was seriously old-fashioned and looked, relatively speaking, like street shoes.

I’m also sad to think that there won’t be any Green & Gold in the NBA next season now that the Thunder is in town.
Don’t know what sports have against Green in general. Only two basketball teams left (Celtics, Bucks), three NFL (Eagles, Jets & Packers), one baseball team (Athletics) and maybe two NHL teams (Stars & Wild) that wear it primarily. As American as I am, I still get sick of all the teams that stick with Red & Blue.

So how can Norfolk State get away with wearing colored jerseys on the road? Doesn’t this conflict with the USC/UCLA rule (i.e. one team has to wear white jerseys)?
Granted, they’re not very dark, but neither are UCLA’s. And I’d even say that Norfolk State’s jerseys are darker than UCF’s home jerseys.
I like the look of both teams in colored jerseys, as long as they contrast. I follow international rugby somewhat, and it can lead to some beautiful matches.

Yup, variety is suffering, that’s for sure. Hate the attitude that there is a certain palette that’s okay and everything else isn’t “jock-tough” enough.
As I’ve said before, god forbid anyone should want to be DIFFERENT or enjoy the experience. We know what a crime that is (see “No Fun League” and that sorry-ass penalty that cost the Washington Huskies yesterday).

A bit off-topic here, but interesting uni-related nonetheless. A Mississippi State player is facing the dilemma of which uniform number to wear for rest of the season. Keith Fitzhugh, who normally wears #1 as a result of his late sister requesting it in a dream, wore #22 yesterday, which was the number of Jamar Cheney, who was injured last week and is out for the season.
Fitzhugh said: “Me and him, we’ve talked about it, and he really doesn’t mind if I do. I lost a little sister, and I had a dream she told me to wear number one. So, it’s a big toss‐up right now. I’m just going to talk to my family and talk to Chaney.”

Gold can be worn either as the “home” jersey or the “road” jersey. Yesterday during the all-directional Florida game, UCF wore its usual home jersey (gold), and USF wore the road whites. UCF has worn the gold jersey during a bowl game where the other team wore the dark jersey.
Gold is the only color you can get away with this, which is strange, seeing how teams that wear brighter colors such as powder blue or orange would contrast with dark-colored jerseys of some opponents. Still, the NCAA doesn’t budge.

The Jets wore the 1963-77 jersey and pants with the new green helmets in preseason in ‘78 before the full uniform appeared in the regular season. There’s at least one pic confirming this in the ‘79 yearbook, which I remember but can’t find for the life of me. The ‘78 yearbook is filled with nice photos of various NYSE-era Jets in the old uniform, including Richard Todd, Wes Walker, Joe Klecko, Bruce Harper, Jerome Barkum, Greg Buttle, Abdul Salaam and Pat Leahy. Oddly, there’s no mention of the new uniforms in the yearbook, although the new logo (angular JETS script with the plane-like tail on the J) appears on the front cover, title page and centerfold, and a graphic of the green helmet is on the page with the Personnel directory.

Just saw P. Manning warming up. Someone please tell me this Gene Upshaw tribute is only for one game. He has His GU patch on one side, Lucas Oil Stadium patch on the other side and the Captain patch above it. I never thought you could make the Colt uni look trashy.
BTW Ravens looked great in the white jersey and black pants (I am not a fan of the “All-Blacks”) and wonder if they will wear the Black Jersey with white pants.

Is anyone else just sick and tired of all these GU patches cluttering up the uni’s? I mean a lot of teams already have a patch, or a tribute patch, or a stadium patch or an anniversary patch, and then they throw these huge ass GU patches on their uni’s and it looks repulsive. Ascetically, this year is going to be terrible.

HUGE difference both between and within divisions.
Look at the dilineation between Division 1-A conferences, SEC to WAC for instance!
Now transfer that to Division 1-A to 1-AA Scholarship: These schools include the Ivy Leagues, The Youngstowns, Appalachian State, Delaware, Hofstra!
From D-1A to D-1AA is an ENORMOUS difference. I should know, because my alma mater was D-1AA Non Scholarship. We played schools like San Diego, Iona, Georgetown, Marist, Jacksonville, and even St. Johns.
All of the schools listed above were like Sac State, D-1A in everything but football, as was Wagner. Unfortunately for me, every intercollegiate sport, sparing club hockey and lacrosse, were D-1A, except for Football, and lacrosse, of both which I played!

Hey “Lil Phil” (yup, I saw that one a little while ago).
I actually got a new job 3 months ago and I’m not able to follow as closely as I used to be able to. I read everyday, but it’s usually at night after all the posts are in.
How have you been?
That was a nice shot Delgado just hit.
And just to keep this uni-related…
I was watching Mr. Baseball today (with Tom Selleck) and noticed a couple of irregularities.
First, in the scene at the begininng when Selleck is giving the rookie a hot foot, there are 4 players present, 2 of them are wearing proper Yankee jersey’s with the stripes extending towards the neck, while 2 are wearing uni’s that are similar to the Mets pinstripes (that meet at the shoulder).
Secondly, in the middle of the movie, Selleck is hitting golf balls wearing a Yankee t-shirt and Tigers road pants. This would not seem odd, except for the fact, that he is not a member of the Tigers organization till the end of the movie. Why would he not wear pants of either the Yankees or his current Japanese team (Dragons)?

Frankie, nit picky… yup… it’s a different divison all together. Something made for football only. It’s kind of like saying short season A-ball is the same as Triple-A because they are both Minor leagues

If you mean the sansabelt ones with orange-white navy trim, it’s probably because they’re Selleck’s own pants, and had nothing do to with the plot. He wore those Tiger road pants in at least one softball-related episode of MAGNUM, P.I. while playing shortstop for the Kamehameha Club co-rec sofball team. Wore the low solid navy stirrups and the road hat with orange “D” edged in white with them, too. In the opening of another episode he wore a complete Tiger home uni (#14) but never got to the field because Higgins came up with something that took him away from his regular Sunday softball game.

I get your point, but all of the schools that you put up as \\\”D-1AA Non Scholarship\\\” offer scholarships. The Ivy League is definitely Non Scholarship – and possibly the last League/Conference (as a whole) in all of D-1 (A and AA) to not offer athletic scholarships, as a league.

In baseball the monochrome is usually a more subdued color. In hockey there’s at least some break in color between shoulders and ankles. In basketball (until recently) there was less fabric. Monochrome in football looks good if the color isn’t either too dark or too intense. The Dolphins in all aqua a few years ago made people’s eyes bleed, as do the Bills’ new duds. The Panthers’ alts would work as a monochrome set, though.
