Oh, and the US Gymnasts looked much better last night...switching from hot pink to red with a blue/white/Gold star. I still like China's look as well.

Man... so much negativity! I agree the post was not up to UW standard.

About the "American arrogance" comments, that dude that posted comment #49 proved the point that as Americans we are arrogant (even though he was trying to do the opposite). Just because in America a sport isn't "popular" shouldn't detract from the fact that it is a sport, and that people that compete in them are athletes.

Now, on a more positive note... how about those volleyball women! Wow... don't ask me about how they look because I've just been looking at the Unis... well, the shorts/bathing suit bottoms!
Kek, if you are reading this, I responded to your comment from last night:
Misti May Treanor wearing a headband with “NAUTICA” on it. Where’s the outrage?

Where are the viewers? Watching baseballand preseason football and not relatively unattractive chics playing volleyball. America’s two favorite past-times outweigh chics in bikinis.

Nonsense. Summer games come every four years. That’s more interesting to me than regular season baseball that you can watch ANY time.

As far as preseason football goes, you go right ahead and keep watch those meaningless games…it gives the NFL owners the right to continue to rip off fan bases by charging regular season ticket prices for what are nothing but glorified scrimmages.

…and you totally missed my sarcastic point in the first place. Everytime a swoosh ends up on a piece of clothing there are a flock of folks in here ready scream bloody murder (I believe the owner of this fine blog once referred to the swoosh as the “mark of the beast”). It was just an ill attempt at humor, which I guess wasn’t that good since I had to explain it!!

Don’t take everything so literal!!!!

I was using double sarcasm… Check the ratings, MLB and NFL preseason will outrank almost all of of the Olympics(other than basketball, gymnastics, and swimming).
Yes, I'll check the ratings....because I make all my viewing choices based on ratings, not what I might find entertaining.

You be a follower....I'll be a leader

I'll admit, not EVERYTHING is super-entertaining, but if you can't appreciate something like that swim relay that USA won earlier tonight I feel bad for you.

I think it's neat to take an occasional break from the stick and ball games we get shoved down our throats 24/7 and appreciate some other athletes in sports we don't see everyday.

Man, you weekend cats are on a whole 'nother level. Yesterday we got people waxing poetic on Lombardi and the good old days (the 50s and 60s are calling), today, people sayin' that if horses are involved in a sport, it's not a sport! Oh, and one of you mocking my "American arrogance" comment in one sentence and then proving my point in the next sentence!!!!!

Thank God tomorrow's Monday!

Ok, baseball and softball are out? Yet this \"sport\" is in? You have got to be kidding me. Anything involving a horse is not a sport, just like NASCAR. Rodeo maybe, but equstrian? Get it out of the olympics. About yesterdays topic, handball is a blast to play, have done it highschool and college.
It's been in the Olympics since 1900, so it\'s certainly one of the most enduring sports. And the only one where men compete against women.
I don't know why beach volleyball is in the Olympics besides the bikinis. Any activity invented by people on a cookout just doesn't belong. Is beer pong next?
So that's why they got rid of baseball. BTW, baseball deserves to be in the Olympics, but not softball. I'm not being sexist or anything, but when the U.S. only give sup ONE EARNED RUN in the entire Olympics, then it's really not that competetive.

And the only one where men compete against women.

Not true: Sailing still has a bunch of 'open' classes, and shooting used to be coed as well.

On a uni-watching note, the sailboats all have flags on their sails, and many boats have failed to do this correctly. As on any craft, the 'hoist', or flagpole end of the flag should go forward: many of the boats have the flag backwards.

Similarly, the asymmetric spinnakers on the classes that have 'em are done up like flags (with olympic rings at the top) with the hoist running along the top and the top of the flag down the leading edge ('luff'): the brazilians in the 49er class had their flag upside-down.

I'll send Paul some screencaps if I can find 'em.

Think of that top hat as a hoodwink overlay for what is otherwise a crah-helmet or jockey headgear. You can see it better when they show Western Iberian-American equestrian events, in which case the ten-gallon hats cover hard headgear and are obvious.

Waistcoats cut above the split between the legs when one does something useful, such as spread those legs in order to sit a horse.

All you weekenders:

Work out, run, function in team sports.

Now try to sit a horse.

Dig it?

Yeah.

Killer sport.

And the duds are stud.

[Don't get me started about fencing, you wnches.]

So much chaffing on those USA LZR suits. Can I call it chaffing? That's what it looks like to me. It looks like they took the LZR suit, and painted it, and it flaked, or chaffed off. IS this happening to other countries who have the LZR suit?

And Phelps owes Lezak about a dozen cokes, and maybe a new car.
