About the “American arrogance” comments, that dude that posted comment #49 proved the point that as Americans we are arrogant (even though he was trying to do the opposite). Just because in America a sport isn’t “popular” shouldn’t detract from the fact that it is a sport, and that people that compete in them are athletes.

Now, on a more positive note… how about those volleyball women! Wow… don’t ask me about how they look because I’ve just been looking at the Unis… well, the shorts/bathing suit bottoms!

And the only one where men compete against women.

Where are the viewers? Watching baseballand preseason football and not relatively unattractive chics playing volleyball. America’s two favorite past-times outweigh chics in bikinis.

Nonsense. Summer games come every four years. That’s more interesting to me than regular season baseball that you can watch ANY time.

As far as preseason football goes, you go right ahead and keep watch those meaningless games…it gives the NFL owners the right to continue to rip off fan bases by charging regular season ticket prices for what are nothing but glorified scrimmages.

Everytime a swoosh ends up on a piece of clothing there are a flock of folks in here ready scream bloody murder (I believe the owner of this fine blog once referred to the swoosh as the “mark of the beast”). I’ll admit, not EVERYTHING is super-entertaining, but if you can’t appreciate something like that swim relay that USA won earlier tonight I feel bad for you.

I think it’s neat to take an occasional break from the stick and ball games we get shoved down our throats 24/7 and appreciate some other athletes in sports we don’t see everyday.

Man, you weekend cats are on a whole ‘nother level. Yesterday we got people waxing poetic on Lombardi and the good old days (the 50s and 60s are calling), today, people sayin’ that if horses are involved in a sport, it’s not a sport! Oh, and one of you mocking my “American arrogance” comment in one sentence and then proving my point in the next sentence!!!!!

So that’s why they got rid of baseball. BTW, baseball deserves to be in the Olympics, but not softball. I’m not being sexist or anything, but when the U.S. only give sup ONE EARNED RUN in the entire Olympics, then it’s really not that competetive.

Not true: Sailing still has a bunch of ‘open’ classes, and shooting used to be coed as well.

On a uni-watching note, the sailboats all have flags on their sails, and many boats have failed to do this correctly. As on any craft, the ‘hoist’, or flagpole end of the flag should go forward: many of the boats have the flag backwards.

Similarly, the asymmetric spinnakers on the classes that have ‘em are done up like flags (with olympic rings at the top) with the hoist running along the top and the top of the flag down the leading edge (’luff’): the brazilians in the 49er class had their flag upside-down.
