They weren't brothers but Keyshawn and Brad Johnson each wore initials while on the Yucs.
In regards to those New Era "Twisted" caps, seeing Atlanta in Orange and Blue almost made me sick. Stuff like that should be stopped.
I have to admit though, some were awesome. They have a Phillies twisted that looks just like the cursed blue hat featured in the "one and done" article; a Rangers hat that, except for maybe a black drop shadow, looks like Juan Gonzalez's old hat, and A's hats in Kansas City (navy, red bill) and Philadelphia (royal blue)-esque color schemes. I really liked those, and I generally hate fashion caps. They also have a brown Padres hat with a modern logo in orange. That's not bad either. Would have liked to have seen a navy and red Brewers cap as an alternate universe kind of thing. (Bud Selig would have changed the Pilots/Brewers colors to red and navy to match the old minor league team if he weren't stuck with the blue and gold set at the last minute.)

Dear Major League Soccer:

The next time you hire some fancy-pants graphic designer to create a custom font for wear on your uniforms, please instruct him/her to try a little bit harder on making the "1s" and the "7s" distinguishable from each other at distances greater than 20 feet.

Thank you.
I don't know if anybody mentioned it, but the Raider in that 63 pic had stripes on his socks. Football Uni's P & P did not indicate that. (Much like the trimmed down number outline)
Am I right? I'm going to send this and then look again. Chaka Khan!
Those Raider striped socks were worn on the road in 1964 only. The slightly wider center stripe was silver(gray), the two outside stripes white. The thick edge on the silver numbers also is a 1964-only thing, perhaps due to issues of readibility with the thin-edge road numbers of '63. Evidently it didn't solve the problem, because sometime during the '64 season the front and back numbers were changed to solid black, but the TV numbers remained silver.

For '65, all road numbers became black with a silver edge and have remained essentially that way since (the silver edge is there sometimes, sometimes not, and has varied in thickness)...with the exception of 1970, when the thin-edged silver numbers were reprised for one season. That uniform is often seen because it was the year when George Blanda had his famous series of late-game passing and placekicking heroics.

Earlier tonight I e-mailed Paul scans of photos relating to this.

I know this post is very late, but getting back to the topic of the AFL, there's another excellent book on the league called "Long Gone" by Jeff Miller. I just picked up a copy a couple months ago, and it's a good read. It's presented in the style of "Loose Balls" where each chapter uses snippets of interviews from different individuals.

As far as anything uni-related, there's the obligatory mention of the Broncos' vertical-striped socks, but not too many pics. The few that I found interesting included this picture of OJ Simpson and this preseason picture of Lamar Hunt. The shot of Hunt intrigued me because the Texans logo on his pocket looks nothing like any other Dallas Texans logo I've seen. I've enlarged the logo and superimposed it over the exisiting picture for a better view. It almost looks like the helmet logo with a spur superimposed over it. New to me!
