amazing uni-design on Tyson Gay yesterday at the trials
http://sports.espn.g...
so much better than anything adidas has ever put out for track. just simple and the red and blue stripes from the shoulder to the hip! plus Gay rocked it out with the top and then the spandex bottoms instead of going with the singlet

But were they perfect in every detail?
Looks like the M’s didn’t get retro batting helmets.
Still, does my heart proud to see a Seattle pitcher wearing #56 (I guess he always wears 56 – too bad they weren’t in Pilots throwbacks).
From yesterday… it looked to me like the “S” on the front of the Mariners throwback is wayyyyy too big. Doesn’t look right.

Sure wish the Pirates and Rays had got the stirrups (both teams) and hats (Rays) right last night.
Red, white-striped stirrups on both would have been great.
Teams seem to be nodding at TBTC’s now, rather than really focussing on them the way they did when the idea was new.
Too bad. What happened to that old saw about, “If you’re gonna do a job, do it right”?
(I promise I won’t mention those purely fictional Cubs hats with their ‘48 throwbacks again. Oh, damn, I did anyway.)

I have a question, next year will be my senior year in football and i was putting some thought into wearing stir-ups for a game. Would this be a stupid idea since it isnt baseball?

Joe,
Credit for thinking outside the uni-box. But sadly, you would look like a tool. Stir-ups are for baseball. Wearing them for football looks like something that would be in a Will Ferrell movie.

Black socks and black-blue hats with pins for Mets today. They do that often?
I hope not.

Didn’t the Padres play in throwback uniforms a few weeks back without matching batting helmets, and now yesterday they did have the matching? Well they looked much better.
Indians look fantastic today… I love that off-white and NNOB.
#18 by Priest on 06.29.08 2:59 pm |
Not sure if this has been mentioned before today, or if it is something new/something that has gone unnoticed, but Nick Leyva (Blue Jays third base coach) has the wrong crest on his black uniform. It has a big white border around it, which none of the players have, so I’m assuming it was a crest intended for white uniform. If anyone has MLB.TV and wants to check it out look at Rios’ & Wells’ at bats in the 6th, they showed him a lot then (at least on the Jays broadcast)

Actually, unlikely that his strike zone is much different from yours.
Here’s something to try at your next softball game. Take a bat, and hold the knob at your “letters”. most likely the head of the bat comes down to your knees, approximating the strike zone.
Try it with adults of varying heights, and it’s generally the same. When you look at the picture of Kareem, you can kind of make out where his knees are… a lot of his height differential is in the lower leg.
Doesn’t work with Eddie Gaedel, but I’m 6′7″, and my strike zone is the same as my 5′8″ friends.

The EURO seems to be leading the UniWorld in human rights messages, from the armbands promoting peace to the racism messages to the Respect patch on every player’s arm.
In the EURO today (don’t have ability to do screen grabs – sorry), one of the Spanish players was having some major problems with his “Respect” patch on the arm of his jersey. Most of the letters in the apparently embroidered patch, were fraying or disappearing altogether.
I wonder if this means he has no respect or he is in the process of losing respect?
#28 by Jon Horton on 06.29.08 4:22 pm |
TIVO to the rescue… it was at the 67:26 mark of the game – Spain’s number 6… and it’s not embroidered. The letters are simply falling off. It’s down to SPE T.

I actually kinda like the two-tone caps with the pinstripes. It’s got a retro look to it. The black sleeves and socks, however, should only be worn with black jerseys, NEVER with the pinstripes (because it’s fug) or the plain whites (because the blue on white looks a million times better).

I think on the picture, part of it has to do with the fact that the bottom of the pants aren’t really needed. With all the logo creep that goes on in sports, it’s a shocker we aren’t all thrilled over an Adidas logo getting cropped out of the picture.

As i watch the Astros vs the Dodgers tonight Home Plate Umpire Gary Cedarstrom (#38) is not only wearing the hockey goaltenders style of mask but the hockey neck protector. As a goalie myself, I love the protection that the protector gives, but this is the first MLB umpire I have seen wearing one. Sorry about not having pics. I’ll post some as soon as I can.
