Far right, in the background. What’s Jack Johnson doing in the Red Sox clubhouse? Furthermore, what’s Manny doing in the clubhouse? I thought he just showed up at game time, wandered out to left and went to work. I stand corrected.
The Celtics were at Fenway Park last night, celebrating in the rain with Manny, Papi, and pretty much everybody. First they had a parade or a race of some sort, then there was milling around, then — eventually — the Red Sox played. In green BP jerseys. Awesome. — Bryan

“awesome” wouldnt be the word that i would use to describe those red sox bp jerseys… but ok.
#4 by Stuby on 06.21.08 9:23 am |
Are those the sox that Ortiz wears during the game? Kinda short, eh? And how does he get his left foot to go out at a right angle like that?
#5 by James Craven on 06.21.08 9:30 am |
Actually, in picture #1 that was linked, they did a mini-replay of the new Boston tradition called the “Rolling Rally” in those Duck boats/trucks that have become popular, and in picture #2 linked, they came out following a one-hour rain delay to have Paul Pierce throw out the first ball…JUST A BIT OUTSIDE!

According to our friends over at NHL.com, Red Wings first round pick Thomas McCollum wears number 33 because: “he loves the number three and it’s balanced”.
First time that I’ve heard of a number being “balanced” on a jersey.

I hope this isn’t what they are thinking this year. It is going to clash with so many uniforms, and I like the flag decals, despite the occasional problems

They are trying to replicate the Chicago Cows with Statues throughout NYC. Each team has there own design, plus like 15 all-star versions, and Brooklyn Dodgers and NY Giants versions.
This one looks the silliest to me:

This year’s greens were the BP jerseys they wore on St. Patrick’s Day. I’m glad they didn’t go with an “all green” version of their home whites. It would be the green equivilant to the dreaded Jessica Simpson pink jersey.

for someone who makes a point of noting clothing details, you’ve made a bit of a blunder here. jack johnson never wears shoes and probably wouldn’t be found in a long sleeve collared shirt. step it up.

First time that I’ve heard of a number being “balanced” on a jersey.
Barry Zito once said that his ridiculous number 75 formed a “shelf” on which his nameplate could stay “balanced”. If he wanted physical support, I think the two poles in number 11 would have done just as well without looking as silly from a numerical-value perspective.

Read the product description. It doesn’t say anything about 4th of July, they are to benefit the Welcome Back Veterans Foundation…could be as simple as that. Then again though, if these hats are ever going to make it on the field and not just be fashion caps it would only make sense to do it on the 4th.

I have a hunch that those flag logo hats will make it onto the field.
Two reasons: (a) There doesn’t seem to be much 5950 cross-over anymore. Polyester for the on-fields, wool for the fashion statements. I’ve seen a wool cap get on the field every once in a while, but I’ve never seen a polyester fashion cap. Always seems to be wool.
(b) I didn’t see a New Era logo over the left ear. As we all know, New Era is not allowed to place that logo on the authentic MLB caps, but they always place it on everything else. Unauthentic MLB caps, MiLB caps, generic caps, you name it. I didn’t notice such a logo on the Vets’ caps.

I love that these “stars and stripes” hats are 34.99, instead of the regular 31.99. I understand that a portion of the proceeds will go to the veterans charity, but couldn’t MLB just take it from the 31.99? Guess MLB wants to support charity, but not if it hurts their merch sales’ bottom line.

One more thing about those stars and stripes MLB hats…
If you go to mlb.shop.com you can find out that they will, in fact, be on-field caps this year. How do you know? They’re in the ‘Men’s Authentic’ section. If they were just for sale and they weren’t going to be used, they’d be located in ‘Men’s Fashion Structured’

Not only does it look bad in the logo, the navy hat will clash with teams’ colors, like Oakland’s green and yellow. Maybe if they designed the enitre uniform to red/white/blue it would be ok (except for the teams that already feature those colors, like Braves, Nats, Cards, Yanks, Red Sox) (and yes, I’m not including the Rangers, Cubs, Dodgers and Phillies – they wear royal, not navy).

I was there tonight, and trying to remember if the Astros ever had pants striping like that throughout the game…it was bothering the hell out of me.
I remember the thin navy blue stripe on the sides, which would have made more sense…given the 80’s theme at the Trop tonight, plus they had Glenn Davis (best known for his 1986 season) throw out the 1st pitch.
Something looked wrong with the jerseys too. Wasn’t the number completely covered by the rainbow in the 80’s, with only the name on white? In addition, it didn’t seem like there was enough of a gradient on tonight’s jerseys…there was a lot of yellow, a couple of red stripes…and little else.
Astros also wore current logo batting helmets, but the jersey irked me more than anything really.

Actually, the Astros should have not worn those throw
backsups. They were the home uniform, and under orders of then-NL prez Chub Feeney in 1980, were told to have a road uniform. They was described as per the 1981 National League Green Book as “Alamo Gray” (more of a cream color) with navy lettering and rainbow stripes down the shoulders and a navy stripe down the outseams of the shirt and pants. In addition, they wore white shoes with navy trim.Geez, if you’re gonna do a “Turn Back the Clock” promotion, get the damn stuff right.
