I just got an email from World Rugby Shop that the USA Eagles are now sponsored by jersey maker Canterbury. They are getting brand new kits, and first impressions are NOT good. Even by rugby standards.

Concerning batting helmet inserts, if memory serves (certainly a big if) Sam McDowell of the Indians and later of the Giants wore an insert instead of a batting helmet. McDowell is still associated with baseball in some capacity as an alcohol counselor, I think, so it might be possible to get in touch with him to verify.

The Cleveland Cobra is neat.

Some of those logos look a lot like the custom team logos on the ESPN NFL football game circa 2004. No pix handy, need a time machine.

Nice shot of that here. Hoboken has a plaque in honor of the Elysian Fields game, also a crosswalk at an intersection is paved to resemble a baseball diamond.
