After reading this I got the urge to check my Islanders jerseys since I know I've seen the logo brandished with the (R) on my banners. All three jerseys are (R)-free, except for my Bridgeport Sound Tigers jersey, which sports an Isles logo on the left shoulder, and it has the (R).

Any clue as to why the "Registered" mark would be used on one jersey but not another?
I believe it would be because the New York Islanders own the rights to that logo. So when they allow the Sound Tigers to use it, they have to put the "R". Well I don't think you have to put the R, I'd be surprised if it was on EVERY minor league jersey (most sport their parent club's crest on their shoulder).
The Islanders have majority ownership of the Sound Tigers, so do the 'Tigers still have to pay royalty fees to have the parent club?

Not really contributing anything here, but that info about the Cubs logo makes an all time classic logo even more classic. Not a ton of teams have a logo that borrows from some other organization within their home.
Apparently Fisk had lost touch with the organization
That's putting it mildly. 6 days after Fisk set the games caught record, the Sox released him - on the road, and then wouldn't let him in the clubhouse when he tried to wish his friends on the team well during the playoffs. Fisk wanted nothing to with Reinsdorf & Co. after that, and rebuilding this bridge was long overdue. Fisk, while most certainly better-known as a member of the Red Sox, still ranks as one of the most popular White Sox players of all time.

Uh...oops. It's Chicago Athletic ASSOCIATION, and the blue circle is part of the CAA logo as well. They have a website.
Sorry for the misinformation. Should have double-checked my facts instead of answering from memory.

I came across this photo of Alfonso Soriano in the June 2008 issue of Conde Nast Portfolio magazine.

What caught my eye was the big circle-R under the logo on the jersey. I've never seen this on any on-field Mariners gear I own, and I took a look around MLB's online shop and didn't see any other jerseys with the (R) attached to the team's logo.

This isn't on any hats I've ever seen, including the Cubs...so I'm curious why the (R) is on the jersey?

I know that in artwork, the logo marks often make an appearance, but is this a unique instance in jerseys?
That's only an issue with the Cubs because technically, the big red C belongs to the Chicago Athletic Club; the Cubs have permission to use their C logo and place the UBS inside of it. Mr. Lukas wrote about it once in the early days. (In the Village Voice days?)
