As for Secretariat, it was 35 years ago – 35 years ago that “Big Red” won the Triple Crown. I barely remember it, and I’m 43. Unless you’re my age or older, you had to be pretty precocious to remember what the media storm was like back then.

Except that it’s been kind of repeated four times in the last six years when a horse won the first two legs of the Triple Crown. I have no idea if Big Brown is better than War Emblem or Sunday Silence or Pleasant Colony. (Or Affirmed, who actually did win the Triple Crown.) But I know people fall all over themselves about any horse that wins the Derby convincingly and if they follow up by winning the Preakness, it’s Katie Bar the Door. The last 10 times a horse has won the first two legs, it hasn’t sealed the deal.

I barely give a shit what my team wears. The white with blue pinstripes look nice. The grays are fairly traditional, I like them. The blue alts I could live without, but what’s the point of bitching about it?

I’m not sure why, but the Red Sox in red just bothers me. I think it’s the whole navy cap/red top/white pants thing. Maybe if they started wearing these hats with the red alts.

In the mid 1990s the Sox had a red alternate caps for Sunday games that I don’t think made it past April. It was a good looking red cap with a white “B” with navy shadowing. I bought one a few years ago on-line from Twin Enterprise, Inc. They don’t offer it anymore, just the ’70s era cap. The 1990s cap was a good looking cap, I wish they held on to it. It would go perfectly with the red jerseys.
