This is another logo that probably should've gone back to the drawing board.
Johnny come lately that I am I'm sure it's been mentioned but I haven't read all the comments/ Marty Turco isn't the first NHl goalie to have a home mask and a road mask. Former Stars goalie Ed Belfour was the first and carried that over to the Maple Leafs when he went there. I'm not sure if Belfour has continued to have a home and road mask now that he's playing in Europe.
Yep, in fact, Turco picked up the home/road mask bit from Belfour. (I'm a Dallas area resident, Stars fan, and recreational goaltender, so I've been locked into the whole situation from its beginning.) Eddie wore a green mask with the white jersey and a gold mask with the green jersey in Dallas. If you look back on earlier Turco pictures from when he was Belfour's backup, you'll see that he began with simply changing the color of the gargoyle on the front of his mask.

(FYI, players wear helmets, goaltenders wear masks. I know it's nitpicking, but that's what wedo here, isn't it?)

Beside Roberto Luongo's 2nd mask last year, which he wore with Vancouver's then-throwback unis, Ed Belfour wore home and road masks for his last few NHL seasons with Toronto and Florida (he played in Europe this year).

I can't find a good pic from last night, but this pic shows him wearing something similar:

http://cache1.asset-cache.net/xc/80734396.jpg?v=1&c=NewsMaker&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF193CE41B024AE96D64D798667F2478AB1A3E30A760B0D811297

anyone know what that is or what it's used for?
yes. i work with an ncaa team and it appears to be a little rubber piece that goes around your thumb to decrease reverberations from making bad contact with the ball on a swing. if you have hit against a fast pitcher you probably know that it can be painful. it is just a little piece of rubber and like i said it goes around your thumb. not sure what it is called
thanks!
sure.
sorry i couldnt be more specific
What Ellsbury was probably wearing is called a "ProHitter" which not only reduces sting as previously suggested but also "produces quick hands, faster wrist turns, increasing bat speed and power."

During last night’s Red Sox game, when the camera zoomed in on Jacoby Ellsbury after he got hit by a pitch, I noticed that he had some sort of a plastic thing around his thumb.

I can’t find a good pic from last night, but this pic shows him wearing something similar:

anyone know what that is or what it’s used for?

yes. i work with an ncaa team and it appears to be a little rubber piece that goes around your thumb to decrease reverberations from making bad contact with the ball on a swing. if you have hit against a fast pitcher you probably know that it can be painful. it is just a little piece of rubber and like i said it goes around your thumb. not sure what it is called
