Wearing real stirrups isn’t easy. It involves a lot of bending over and coordination to hook that stirrup over your heel. LaRussa has a hard time with that when he’s working off that hangover from the night before. Therefore he sticks with the fake stirrups.

Plus, no matter how cool stirrups are, nobody over the age of 50 wear them. Seriously, does anyone want to see Don Zimmer wear stirrups?

This guy is definitely over 50 and knows how the hell to wear some amazing stirrups.

The Cards all need to get with the program and SHOW THE STRIPES. Also, I dig the navy hats and the red ones. I say stick with what works (red at home, navy on the road.)

Also a cardinals fan here, and every year I hear about how they should go to Red full time after seeing in spring training.

I share those wishes with everyone else. But the Navy hat not only looks good, its a nod to history.

They wore red hats from 1900 to 1908, with white mixed in as well.

Then they went to white hats from 1909 to 1940. That year the started wearing blue hats full time until 1964. (in 65 it was as is now, red at home, blue on the road) From then on it was red all the time until 1992 and the uniform redesign brought back the blue away caps.

I like how they look and like I said, this is the hat that Stan Musial wore and many other great Cardinals in the 40s & 50s. I’d like to see perhaps the blue hat only go to sundays or something. I’d like to keep it in the mix, but they look really good in red on the road.

I was going to comment, but in reading the comments, it looks like someone already said exactly what I was going to. The navy hat is a not to the great teams of the past. I can live with or without the sunday cap, and think it actually looks better with the road grays than it does the home whites. They actually wore them on the road back in 98 or 99.

As for the comment of sturrips and black shoes, I completely agree as well.

It might be a long year in Redbird Nation, but hey, it’s March, it’s a time to be optimistic.

They’ll go as long as both teams have pitchers, but the managers can agree at any point to end the game in a tie (like we saw in the All-Star Game a few years back).
