Making the Pro Bowl, while a nice honor and all, is all about the perks. Here, Patriots All-Pro ogler Asante Samuel takes advantage of one such perk. He’s proven himself on the field, but his gawking skill set needs some work.
Mercifully, all of the flowers hide those god-awful uniforms. Sublimated stars, random piping, and tapering, multicolored side panels on the pants … wouldn’t hurt to skip HD for this one. – Bryan

I don’t know if this was really mentioned at all yesterday, but there was an interesting note from the Indiana-Illinois game on Thursday. Eric Gordon’s parents committed an ultimate uni faux-pas by wearing BLACK INDIANA UNIFORMS! what….the…HELL?! Also, it may have been the way her jersey folded over or something, but it looked like the first “I” was missing from Mrs. Gordon’s jersey for a good bit of the game. Maybe it was all of these uni mistakes that led Illini fans to throw stuff at the Gordons….

Doesn’t sound like they have thought this all the way through. QB’s are QB’s are QB’s. #1 goes out, #2 goes in. What defensive position is designated? If it can be chosen, would any player who might play that spot get one too? What happens if the #2 defensive player is inserted in a different position along side #1? Personally, I really don’t care. Give ‘em all radio receivers, but that’s not the NFL’s style. They like to know exactly what everybody is doing all the time (videotaping not withstanding).

nike: ok, so we can make it crazy with all kinds of subdued piping and a huge logo on the front and everything
mu: no we’d really like it to be pretty plain
nike: you sure?
mu: yes, we think it’d be best for everyone
nike: oh, well, heres the problem. we can’t handle simple and plain, especially with no swoosh on it. sorry.

I really don’t dig the whole “No Fun League” feel that’s come out of Roger Goodell’s NFL. He has aggressively gone after the misbehaving players, which is good, but he’s made the game even more political than it was. The NFL is getting too controlling with everything. I’m thinking they need to change the logo colors to red and yellow.

I can kinda sorta see that. But then, it’s a little selfish to bitch about it.
My problem isn’t so much a problem as a question: these things are usually said to “raise awareness” of breast cancer. Seriously – it’s 2008. Are there people who aren’t aware of this? Everybody knows a woman or many women, whether they’re relatives or friends. Can you honestly not be aware of breast cancer and how prevalent and deadly it is, by this point?
Now, you want to raise funds, I’m all about that. It’s a widespread and insidious disease. But I just question whether or not you really have to raise awareness. Maybe I’m wrong.
KT said:
There’s that. They just become…I don’t know. A fad or something. Which would tend, eventually, to dilute the message, I would think.
If the Dallas Cowboys wore pink, that would be a huge message as a one-time thing. But fifteen minor league hockey teams and twenty college basketball teams and it just eventually blends into the white noise of our lives, I think.
Not that it’s not a good cause. Great cause. And I like pink, so I think it looks cool to do a uniform set in it (or some alternate color in a non-disease-awareness situation). I just think that the more people do it, the less people pay attention to it.

I noticed that the one o-lineman from the Bengals, I think its Anthony Munioz(?) anyways, the shot is a close up of him with his Bengals helmet on and if you look by his ear hole, there is actually a handwritten “69′ with a sharpie right on his helmet.
Now I don’t know if it is his number or a tribute or what but his number is hand written and it is pretty cool to see.

Here’s a good Nike story. Around 79 or so, Vitas Gerulaitis was wearing the Nike Wimbledon shoe. I wore those too- and in fact I was the first guy at my HS to wear Nikes- everyone called them NIKE with no long e, NIKE as in MIKE. No one knew! Vitas also wore some white socks with the swoosh and name on them- I thought they were cool, so I wrote Nike about them. They wrote me back and said “they had no plans to expand to a clothing line.” (!) But they sent me, free, three pair of plain tennis socks- one plain white, one with two lite blue stripes, and one with two green stripes, in Nike packaging with no logos on the socks.

Brown made two PB’s, 1982 & 1983. His 1982 helmet would have had numbers on the back, this one doesn’t. So in search of your #5 patch, and official who died sometime in 1983-84.

[rant]That comment was just 100% wrong, TOG. Had this been the Cramer boards, you would have gotten a warning, or been sent to the corner (i. e. suspended for a bit.) Been there, did that, lifetime ban. In addition, a mod would have either erased that whole comment or severely edited it.
Lifetime ban from the Creamer site? I’ve been there done that like 35 times, too?
Tip for you….Just create a new Yahoo or MSN account name and log-in from a Caribou Coffee, Starbucks. LGA or other remote server and enjoy? Come on lifetime ban? And like that is a bad thing?

Although Dale does not have the “8″, he is off to a very good start winning the Bud Shootout tonight. His 47 laps led tonight is a Shootout record.

I’d be banned for that as well. So know your role and you know the rest.

Busby’s Babes were part of that 1957-58 team who perished in that untimely accident. How dare you even think about marketing something that commemorates a sad day in The Beautiful Game. That’s like making sick jokes about Sean Taylor’s death, and I avoided that thank you very much. Quit p***ing off the relatives of the victims (and Man U and soccer fans in general) and please apologize or I may do that for you.
Sean Taylor’s death is an horrific tragedy no matter how you want to try and spin it James Craven. I am owed an apology dude.

james,
not that i condone that sort of thing, but TOG is right…a “lifetime” ban exists only so long as you use the same IP addy
just get a new one (and there are many many ways to do that)
and DON’T create a SN of James Craven either…try something similar like Jim Coward

Sorry Bryan. I’m off for tonight. My apologies for any backbiting. Back to NBA All-Star Game uni bashing tomorrow, something we can all agree on.

TOG, remember what Bryan said in Post #73?

Never knew the Los Angeles Kings had an all yellow uniform but guess they did. Bob Pulford as witness.

nothing better than getting the first free minute of the day to check out the activity on the board today, to see what substantial items were discussed, to review the topics of the day, to see if something new was brought up, only to see it cluttered up with a petty bullshit argument.
yeah, i dont have to read those posts, and i didnt read them. but i had to waste my time in my quick scan of what the post was about. it did nothing but waste space and clutter the board.
bryan said to squash the argument at around 730. he is not a substitute teacher, he is an authority figure here and his wishes should be respected as such.

Yeah, that was Jack Kent Cooke’s idea. When he sold the team to Jerry Buss, they dropped the yellow breezers/shorts/hockey pants and wore the purple ones full time. Could you imagine yellow (or purple) Cooperalls?
