Does anyone know about the material “tactel?” I’ve seen Nike hats for college teams listed as being made from this material, and I’m unfamiliar with it. Does anyone know it’s like? Is it better than wool or some of the other materials?

I caught a few minutes of the Stetson v. Florida Gulf Coast Univ. hoops matchup last night (you can throw out the records when those teams meet) and noticed that the Stetson unis featured contrasting name plates. I found this grainy photo from their game against Georgetown. I can’t really decide whether I like the look or not.

As fir Stetson’s nameplates, it kinda reminds me of the Chicago State uniforms from a couple years ago, where ChiState had constrasting nameplates on the lower back of their unis, as well as the 1973-74 Philadelphia Flyers jerseys for NBC telecasts.

comparing wins in auto racing (when you are competing against 40+ others at 1 time) to wins in tennis (when you only have 1 opponent at a time) is a complete disservice to the auto racer.

But Danica competes against a much smaller set of competitors than did Anna. To be ranked 100–or even much higher–in the world in tennis is much more of a challenge than top 10 in Indy racing.

A quick question:
Do receivers or defensive backs wear any pads on their legs anymore? Thigh, hip, knee, anywhere??? I realize it allows them to move more freely and run faster, but are they more likely to get injured wearing these bike shorts? I never noticed this until I started seeing pictures of players on this site, especially Al Harris and Charles Woodson with their socks and spats. GO PACK!

I was a drug testing crew chief for the USOC from ‘92 – ‘96. First of all, people would be amazed at the number of substances and the different variety that are banned, i.e caffiene in certain quantities. Secondly, the system we used which I imagine has changed quite bit but not enough was easy to beat. World class athletes know how to train to peak and taper down to competition levels.
Most substances that are banned are performance enhancers which may slow down or speed up the heart rate, increase oxygen in the blood, etc.,depending on the demands of the sport. It is very advantageous for a competitive pistol shooter to slow down his/her breathing and heart rate. As crazy as it sounds, they try to shoot between beats.
The problem with steroids is that they are basically training enhancers, not needed the day of competition. Also, they are mostly detectable due to increased levels of testoterone, which is obviously not a banned substance itself.
So.. You increase your testosterone, train like crazy, taper down to the correct level just prior to the event, test your blood, and if you didn’t taper enough, announce a strained hamstring or shoulder and pull out of the event. Very simplistic, but you get the picture.
What I find funny is when a sample is positive and they go to sample B. The system we used utilized a glass bottle sealed with VOID tape inside a plastic bottle lock sealed and VOID taped. The only person who touches the sample prior to the sealing of the glass bottle is the athlete and they and a representative sign that they witnessed the process. The two sets (A & B) of bottles are selected by the athlete from a box of many that are individually sealed in plastic.
As for sample B. It is urine from the exact same sample as A. Half goes in A and half goes in B. Instead of being tested, it is refrigerated. So if A is dirty, you know B will be dirty too. They call in the ahtlete, test B and surprise, surprise. Positive.

Need a little help:
In the BCS title game, the Ohio State helmet featured several numbers on the rear back in addition to the BCS decal, American flag and a Big Ten pennant. Left to right, it looks like a 24 (white on scarlett circle left of stripe), 99 (white on black circle over the scarlett stripe), maybe a 25 or 29 (w on s circle to right of stripe) and two other numbers – one of which might be the player’s numeral (plain scarlett numeral on helmet right of stripe). With the award decals the numbers are tough to see. Anyone know anything about these?

In the interview with Marge Switzer yesterday she confirmed that the Packers do not wear the captaincy patches that are new this season. In the pre-game team introductions Brett Favre was wearing on of these patches.
I wonder if the NFL is requiring these during the playoffs or did the Packers decide to wear them on their own?

Captains get a gold star for each year they are a captain. Will Favre (and any other Packer wearing the patch today) get two stars next year (if they wear the patches) even though they may only wear the patch during one game this season?

Danica Patrick is overrated, it is not hard to get a top ten in indy, because the only race with more then 18 cars is the indy 500. Most drivers racing for the teams she has with her numbers would be fired and no one would care about her if she was not a hot girl. The same with anna kornikova.

So, I feel like a completely worthless uni fan. I just noticed the Packers wearing C patches in the 2nd quarter. I came in here to see if I was the first to notice it, and of course I was late by nearly an hour.
I sure hope we can find out why the patches are on for the playoffs. I think they look silly on such a classic uniform. (Same goes for teams like the Cowboys, Bears, Raiders, etc.)

Another thing please dont think that cheating isnt prevelant in the disabled sports world. In the 2000 paralympics in Sydney the Spain Intellectual Basketball team was found to have to high of an IQ this lead to the removal of Intellectual Disablity sports from the paralympic games. Also in the 1992 Barcelona Paralympics the USA Men’s Wheelchair basketball team was stripped of the Gold medal do to a player taking a drug for spasms that was on the banned list. The top American Amputee sprinter was banned from the 2004 paralympic games for a positive steriod test. By the way his training partner….Marion Jones.
One last thing think about this I play wheelchair basketball. The ammount of work that my upper body does in a game compare to the Able Body player is 3-4 times more as I have to propel my body and chair plus do all the basketball skills with my upper body.
As a disabled athlete I commend Pistorus for his effort is this pursuit. The one thing it will help is get more recognition for those of us that toil in the disabled sports. In foreign countries their disabled athletes are celebrties. Here? Unless you are in the community you dont know them.

I am sitting here watching football and drinking beer and loving it.
Packers in the snow at home? Seahawks shouldn’t have bothered getting off the bus. Of course it wasn’t snowing that much when they did.
Speaking of buses, I remember seeing during the pre-game for the Rose Bowl that as USC showed up to the stadium in the bus (actually several buses), the players inside were jumping from side to side so much that the buses were really rocking–the tops of the buses were moving back and forth with an amplitude of five or six feet. I thought that was pretty cool.
The best uni-aspect of this game, or any Packers game, is Favre’s classic chinstrap.

Perhaps it’s just because I have recently gotten HDTV, but have the Packers’ pants always been a slightly different yellow than the helmets/sleeve stripes? It’s really obvious in this game.

In response to the questions about the Packers wearing the captains patches:
During the regular season the Packers nominate captains for each game, therefore no one on the team wears a “C” patch because the captains change.
The Packers nominated captains for the entire playoffs so 2 offensive players (Favre and Driver), 2 Defensive players (Aaron Kampman and Nick Barnett), and 2 special teams players are wearing the patches

I got really bored and was looking at the custom jerseys on NFL Shop. Aside from some differences in the supposedly “authentic” and the real jerseys, they are mostly accurate.
I began to consider which team this year’s Heisman winner, Tim Tebow, would draft him in the 2010 NFL Draft. More importantly (unless its the BEARS), which team’s jersey would look the best as a TEBOW 15 jersey. This is a set of pics with one of each teams’ current jersey customized to say TEBOW 15.

Didn’t see this posted after the Pens/Sabres outdoor game, but Danny Sabourin’s jersey numbers were much lower than the other Penguins. His encroached on the horizontal white band, something that not even other thirty-something numbered players had to worry about.
Maybe something about the way goalie-cut jerseys are made?

I spotted one of the Packs ST patches on Rob Davis, the Long Snapper and the only Packer other than Brett still with the team who played at superbowl XXXII. He’s actually the oldest guy on the rosterand has been appointed as a Playoff captain several times before.
BTW I mentioned the stupid Ref pants in the Patriots game to a teammate of mine who’s not watched a lot of NFL football and he though they look like “Cheap Track-Pants”, you wil be happy to hear the the British American Football Referees Association only recognise the traditional white pants as correct uniform, regardless of the weather.

I would like to see the Jaguars have turquoise numbers on their road uniforms. The black becomes a bit overwhelming (especially with the black socks), and the home turquoise over white is an under-the-radar classy uniform.

Nike put his number, “Sheff” on em, and a Chef’s hat for a logo.
