On a related note, I remain firmly convinced that my Tigers “jinxed” themselves against Oklahoma in the Big XII title game when they went monochrome… the Tigers wore their gold pants in their wins at Kansas and in the Cotton Bowl against Arkansas

I agree…except I wouldn’t mind seeing SOMETHING on the Penn State helmets. I think that THIS on the white helmets with the blue stripe would look very nice with the current unis.

When I was about 8 yrs old, I asked my mother why the NY Times didn’t have comics like all the other newspapers. She thought for a moment and then said, “Because if it had comics, it wouldn’t be the NY Times.” That was a profoundly unsatisfying answer to an 8-yr-old, but I think it was EXACTLY the right answer.

So: If Penn State put a logo on the helmets, they wouldn’t be Penn State. Simple as that.

I take it from some of the comments made after this post that this is going to be one of those Uni-watch undebatable points like the color purple, nike, logo creep. You can have your opinion… but it’s wrong.

i dont know if that will be the case on this topic, but your statement above should be tweaked a bit.

PL encourages us all to have our own opinions to create an educated discourse among us all. his opinions are always backed up with reasons and in some instances, data (which should be the rule: if you like or dislike a uni, tell me why! give me justification!)

PL has never stated that anyone’s opinion is wrong though.

it is my observation that some readers DO take PL’s opinions for gospel, and then create these untouchable walls around them. you listed many of his opinions which fit that bill. but it was the readers who built these walls, not PL.

My school Prairie View A&M (the one with the 80 game losing streak in the ’90s) ditched purple home unis about 3 years ago (and somehow ditched white aways as well…) So for my first 2 years of college I was forced to see them in these and these. We switched to these and these this year and posted our first winning season since 1976, and our best record since 1964. I think I appreciate purple now.

everyone refering to NFL QB’s having a microphone in their helmet… that is not the case. the have a speaker a microphone would allow communication from QB to OC when there is only OC(or whoever calls the plays) to QB communication
