I have to say that both teams looked fantastic in todays Winter Classic game! The Sabres finally wore uniforms with a depiction of their team nickname (after all, they are the Sabres, not the Buffaloes or Buffaslugs), and the Pens looked fantastic in the baby blues. I might have to get myself one of them, they were so awesome!

PL,
Don't know if you ever played basketball or not, but I have. Not only that, but I sweat like a mother f'er. When you need a breather on the court, and towels aren't available, the last place you want to put sweaty hands is on sweaty legs. If the shorts don't go to your knees, and that's where you want your hands for a break, you gotta do something about it. I agree it looks bad, but I'd rather look bad on a court bc I did that, than look bad bc I had a turnover bc my hands were too sweaty.

you're right. based on the last 15 years of athletic design, the celtics look so much better.
Correction -- the changes you're referring to have nothing to do with design. They have to do with fashion. In fact, these changes actually conflict with the world of design, because they (a) run counter to function, and (b) have forced graphics that were intended for a certain tailoring pattern to be extended onto a much longer, extended pattern.

Whether you like the changes or not, don't mistake them for anything other than what they are: a fashion trend.
i dont know if the term trend would be proper. the lenthy inseams on shorts has evolved over a period of 20 years. do trends last for 2 decades?

i guess what im saying here is that based on this viewpoint, for all uniforms, for all sports over all eras, we should have to either refer to the general look of a player in uniform as "all trends" or "all styles" (save for individual adaptations like kerry kittles sock/s). i mean, is EVERYTHING a trend then? is there a time minimum and/or maximum on trends?
Trend or style change, I have to say that, as an amateur, I find the current length much more comfortable and functional. I absolutely hated short shorts that I was supposed to wear for gym in school (from the mid-70s through the mid-80's). I didn't like the feel of my legs touching each other. I wore sweat pants when allowed. (I hated the tank top feel too, but that's another blog entry.) I loved the trend towards longer shorts in the late 80s (both athletic shorts and streetwear). Except for the goofy look of shorts that go below the knee, I find today's shorts much more comfortable.

Happy New Year everyone. 11 minutes to go and i am catching up on uniwatchblog while waiting for the ball to drop here with my wife and daughter.

Wanted to point out the odd memorial decal action in Sunday's Browns vs SF game. Both teams still had the Sean Taylor 21, but more interestingly, both teams had 'BW' decals (barely visible here ) Browns memorializing Bill Willis and SF the same for Bill Walsh. Never seen same memorials for different reasons in same game.

Clemson's QB's jersey is kind of crowded on the front. He's got the Chick Fil-A Bowl patch, a black piece of tape memorializing something, a captain's "C", a Nike swoosh, and the Clemson Paw in the middle.

I don't have a picture yet.
