Here’s a question: If an Oklahoma State football player in an orange uniform falls into a pylon, does anybody notice?
Another big day in college football otherwise, with Oregon going all white, Pitt going all blue, West Virginia going with gold tops, and Notre Dame giving a uni shout-out to Billy Beane.
More tomorrow obviously, but for the moment, just enjoy the vision of football in the snow in October. –Vince

How long until we see color-coordinated wrist coaches (the wristbands with the built in playsheet holder). I’ve only seen white and black — that Oklahoma State guy should have worn an orange one around his belt to match :)

Those WVU uniforms are very close to Cal’s version.
Anybody know if the striping forming sort of a ‘W’ on WVU’s jersey was intentional?

“Snow” games are a lot more fun to watch on TV than in person… at least, if you’re doing the radio broadcast of the game! The darnedest weather I ever saw during my tenure at Arkansas State came in a playoff game at Nevada… sunny in the 1st quarter, light rain in the 2nd, sleet in the 3rd, and snow in the 4th!
It was the only time I had to use my binoculars just to see the players! And 20 minutes after the game ended, it was sunny again! (If’n my color-guy partner hadn’t been a good ol’ tee-totallin’ Southern Baptist boy, I’m sure our Arkansas listeners would’ve assumed I was drunk, stoned, or crazy!) (big grin)

i thought Oregon’s whites were incredibly cool, despite the continued fall from former series dominance the game represented for the Huskies.
but what’s up with the green “O” on the ball? does the visiting team bring the footballs for an away game, or is there also a “W” on the other side of that rock? you’d think it would just be a Pac-10 logo.
#8 by Dan on 10.21.07 11:26 am |
Every single team listed on today’s thread looked great. Oklahoma State and West Virginia looked superb. My only complaint was Oregon should have worn green or black pants, but the all white was still not bad.

Every school provides their own game balls. When the home team is on the field, they use home team balls. When the visiting team is on the field, they use the visiting teams balls. Most D-1 schools have their logo stamped onto their footballs. Every quarterback is different, which is why both teams are allowed to use their own balls so they can “work” the ball (via red clay, brushing the leather, etc) to a grip that the QB is comfortable with.

Fausto Carmona apparently forgot to remove the “Diamond Collection” tag that comes on authentic MLB jerseys: http://mlb.mlb.com/i.... It’s surprising that players’ jerseys even come with merchandising tags, or that Carmona would have a new jersey at this point in the year.

I was expecting more praise for ND throwbacks on Saturday. How many times have teams screwed up trying to copy an old look? The only thing different from the 1977 version is the Adidas logo and black shoes instead of white. (That would really make the A’s a good comparison.) How many teams wear striped socks in college football?

Also, if i’m not mistaken, i believe marty booker is wearing navy-accented cleats, which strikes me as odd. During today’s Washington-Arizona game, the Cards played 2 offensive linemen with the same surname, “Brown”. At times, Elton Brown (G – #61) and Levi Brown (OT – #75) were on the field at the same time, but both only had “Brown” on their nameplate. (sorry, no pix)
I thought there was an exception to the NFL rule that, if the two players could never be confused for each other, (like a kicker and defensive tackle) then they didn’t require the first initial (or full firstname). But this is two offensive linemen, who could possibly lineup side by side.

my opinions: rams in all white looks great for a few reasons – it’s fresh and new, it’s not a TON of white and, hence, boring. rather, there’s plenty of color in there to break the monotony. also, the plain jane gold pants are getting old to me. add some stripes to them and they’d look good. i love how they’ve gone with blue pants, too. their color scheme lends itself to many good looks.
on the other hand, the seahawks always going monochrome blue or white is just plain a tired look to me. the color scheme is a dull blue and then a neon-ish green, and it just says “radioactive” to me, which isn’t a good look when it comes to uniforms. they should mix in the silver pants they had before the uni change.

The all-white Rams look weird in all-white because they wear it so rarely. If we were used to it, I don’t think it would be so shocking.
I feel the muddy blue/green Seattle color should go in favor of something with a bit more … oh what’s the word, energy? It’s just such an unnatural blah color.

Hi all, great reading as ever.
I don’t like the Rams in all white at all, but on the other hand, I have never felt comfortable watching guys run around in shiny gold pants. It’s not right sonehow. And I’m a Niner fan!
Personally, I still lament the Rams in blue and yellow, circa 1984 for example. Great colours, and the name lettering in white was a great look on home jerseys.

Travis Henry wore the packing tape in Buffalo for a while as well. If I remember correctly it was during the last couple years he was there. Having trounble finding a pic of it though.

Anyone else notice that on the Friday Night Lights show, the Dillon Panthers have added some pretty bad white shoulder piping to their all purple uniforms for season 2?

Between the updating of the Schilling photo on their website banner and the repositioning of the “8″ on the outside wall of Fenway, it’s obvious one of the young nerds in the Red Sox’ front office is a UW reader. Funny that they’d update Schilling’s picture now when he’ll only be with the team for another seven games at most.

as a lifelong Hawks fan i hated the new scheme at first, but it grew on me and i like them now. but i agree on the silver pants. i was in the minority that voted for the silver helmet. the team intended to keep it as an alternate helmet but the league wouldn’t allow it. i think they should try again since so many teams wear alternate jerseys nowdays. the silver helmet would be a reference to their past, and make the bird logo stand out more.
the blue/blue is definitely an improvement on the original blue/white scheme, however, and that’s why the players lobbied for it.

The Oregon all whites are so clean and fresh. The white helmets would look good with the green jerseys and pants. i was at the Oregon Husky game and the reaction of the crowd when they came out was imence. if you wanna talk the worst uniforms you have to bring the Oregon state sports bras into the conversation. in my opinion they are the worst looking uniforms nike has ever created.

Also, for many years Mississippi State wore white jerseys at home for many of their games. For years, the ONLY time LSU would wear a dark jersey was on the road trip to Miss. State every two years.
Back before the NCAA mandate that teams had to wear dark jerseys at home, you would not have known that LSU had purple jerseys.
Late 1950’s through the late 1970’s you could only see the LSU purple jersey in a black&white newspaper picture, or maybe on the coach’s highlight show, as that was before ESPN or the local stations even sending a camera crew to road games.
