interesting how this fits in to PL’s recent topic of jersey misspellings… however if the mistake was made on purpose, then, its not really misspelled, is it?

Actually, Arizona is on Mountain Standard time year round, so right now they are on the same time as Pacific Daylight, but come November they will be ahead of the West Coast by an hour. Colorado, on the other hand, adjusts their clocks for Daylight Savings time. If this series were played in November, the two states would be on the same time, but right now Colorado is an hour ahead. Got it?

It’s the city of Pittsburgh’s 250th anniversary, not the Penguins’. IIRC, the Pens have been around for about 40 years.

There is no “about” necessary. Their first game was October 11, 1967, so on Thursday we can say “exactly 40 years.”

Having his full last name on the jersey would have broken the Saltalamaccia Boundary, beating Washington State’s Abdollmohammadi by virtue of the hyphen.

As I recall, there was a big lawsuit years ago that involved Mike Schmidt and perhaps others. I think that he had a contract to wear one brand of shoe, but altered another brand to look like the one he was contractually obligated to wear, and ended up getting sued. I came across the case one day in law school when I was bored and fiddling around on Westlaw.

I am happy that someone else remembers that. If I recall correctly, he had a contract with Nike but couldn’t get burgundy cleats from them so he doctored up another brand. This auction is for Schmidt’s suede burgundy Nikes from the 1980 World Series. An SI cover from 1980 seems to confirm he wore these.

I gather that in 1976, he wore Pumas. (I cannot seem to put two links in a single posting, so here’s the URL for a ‘76 SI cover of Schmidt in Pumas: http://dynamic.si.cn.... It conflates the text between the two links.)

And, for Giant fans, I think the ugliest quarterback name has to be Joe Pisarcik (http://en.wikipedia....).
