Anyone else notice that the Chargers' bolts on their helmets zig-zag the opposite way from the bolts on their shoulders? Maybe that is why AIS got it wrong in the commercial - they probably assumed that the bolts should match. I wonder if that was the case on previous versions of Chargers uniforms?
On the previous versions of the Chargers uniform, the curved bolts on the helmet would match the lightning bolts over the shoulders in terms of color and outline, but not in shape, since the bolts over the shoulder were designed to, you know, go over the shoulder. At times the colors matched the bolts on the pants (if the pants had a bolt, which was not always the case) and at times they didn't, but the pants bolts were always shapend differently than those on the shoulders and helmet, becaue, you know, they were designed to go on the pants.

I'm being a bit snarky because the Chargers messed up their new uniform by really messing up the lightning bolts. The bolts over the shoulders were moved "around" the shoulders, and now look more like an armband. They were redesigned to be shaped more like the helmet bolt (2 zig zags), but as a result they look smaller and not as impressive, and in my opinion actually make the players look smaller.

What they did to the bolts on the pants was even worse. Insisting on the 2-zig zag pattern, they made the bolts look more like a jaundiced version of Mr. Twig.

They would have been fine if they had just kept the uniform patterns the same and just changed the colors, but nooooooooooooo ...

But I'm not bitter.

The Houston Humidities. I love it. Just think of the fun logos and mascots . . . .
It's doable. Teams have been named after weather patterns and the such before.

New Orleans Zephyrs for example: http://www.neworleansonline.com/images/stories/s.zephyrs.1.jpg

For those not in the know on what a zephyr is: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/zephyr

Is that a nutria in their logo? http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/nutria
Sorry, The New Orleans Zephyrs are the successors to the Denver Zephyrs, who moved to the New Orleans' suburb of Jefferson after the AAA Zephyrs were pushed out of Denver by the creation /awarding of the Rockies' franchise to Denver/Colorado.

The Denver Zephyrs were named for a train, called the "Zephyr" that went through Denver and was somewhat famous there. When the Zephyrs moved to New Orleans, the name was retained (Cheapness?) and the locals really did not complain because "The Zephyr" was the name of a very popular ROLLER COASTER at a then - recently defunct local amusement park.
Excellent summary. The famous train was the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy ("CB&Q") Zephyr passenger train system. CB&Q's various routes were given the Zephyr name (e.g., Nebraska Zephyr, Denver Zephyr, Texas Zephyr).

I long thought that it was a cool name, and was disappointed when the new MLB team named themselves the Colorado Rockies instead of keeping the Denver Zephyrs name utilized by the minor league team.

If they're going to redo all the highway signs with that nice-looking font, this would be a great opportunity to get measurements in kilometers added to (or better yet, instead of) the ones in miles, like the US had planned to do about 30 years ago.

At the very least, dump the fractional mile measurements. Trying to figure out how far 3/8 of a mile is (when you could call it 600 meters) while driving must surely be the cause of a few accidents.
While I agree with you that the U.S. should be more metric friendly, I don't think we should rush into using all metric numbers for road signs. A large group of people in this country have too little understanding of the metric system. I'd love for us to start using the metric system (it's so much easier to learn and use), but there would have to be a certain amount of education before that could happen.
Easier to learn and use, maybe. But not nearly as charming.

Here's the way I feel about it:

English System is to Metric System as Baseball is to Soccer
The only difference is that we are one of the only countries still holding on to the standard system. (They play baseball eveywhere.) If we got rid of the standard system the entire world would then probably be on the same system. That could only make things easier in a million different professions. NASA has crashed satellites into planets because they didn't do a conversion from standard to metric properly.

No excuse for wearing BP jerseys in a game, especially with those ugly-ass armpits, I don't care how hot it is.
I'm wondering if those jerseys are any cooler at all. While they may have certain features that make them feel cooler, they are much darker than their usual road jerseys. I would guess that them being that much darker would offset any cooling effect they have. They're definitely not enough cooler to warrant wearing them in a game.
The BP jersey is much cooler than the normal Authentic MLB jersey (I own both of the Cubs). It does make a difference

The Chargers' new uniforms look ridiculous. It's like they tried to split the difference between new and old but they wound up ruining both. Yuck.

I know it's just placeholder copy but I can't help but think, "So what happens if the guy's first name is longer than four characters and the guy's last name is longer than eight characters?"

I suppose I'd know the answer if I ever watched an ESPN football broadcast. Which is difficult given that I live in Canada.
