For the list: I’m a history major at Colgate University in the bustling metropolis of Hamilton, NY. And, for what it’s worth, my work-study job (one of them) is to be the student supervisor of intramural sports in the Department of Recreational Sports, of which the highlight so far was getting hats to match our ref jerseys.

Also, uni-wise:

-A few weeks ago, the Cincinnati Jungle Kats (af2) gave away a bobblehead of Ken Griffey Jr. in a Kats jerseys. I don’t remember seeing any mention of it on here–or anywhere outside eBay, for that matter–so, um…better late than never, I guess.

-At the Reds game tonight, they showed video of Jim Maloney’s no-hitter against the Cubs in ‘65, and I swear the Reds had their names below their numbers, but I can’t find any photos of the back of the jersey online. Can anyone help? Did I see right?

Yes, you saw correctly. If you get a chance to watch ‘When it Was a Game III’ on HBO (its on again this Sat. at 7AM), there is some good footage of the names below the numbers toward the end of the show.

So I’m not the only one! I’m an urban and regional planner, if you wanna get technical, which is of course the whole point of Uni Watch. Maybe one of use should do a post on the standard colors for land use classification maps (I’m not volunteering!)

As a die-hard, lifelong Pens fan, those new jerseys made my eyes throw up. The Red Wings’ new sweater is a crime against hockey. They had one of the nicest jerseys in all of sports, and nothing needed to be changed. I hope the rest of the Original Six will follow the Bruins’ example.

I just scrolled down a little farther on the site to see his rankings of the logos. He put the Penguins’, Bruins’, and Leafs’ logos toward the very bottom, and the Senators’, Predators’, and Hurricanes’ near the top? If there was a Nobel Price for bad taste, he’d be getting a million dollar check in Oslo.

I only have one real qualm with the whole thing: Why do they have like 20 logos? I like the new shark fin, the shield, and the new primary logo, but the endless wordprints? The logo with the whole shark is cool, but it’s as redundant as redundant redundancy.
