What are we going to
I love all of this cycling talk, can we get a tour de France preview column?
What are we going to talk about? Which color of syringe they're using? What color torniquet? Everyone knows the REAL action happens behind closed doors?

Forgive me, I've very jaded right now. This sport has fine color and tradition, but it's hard to convince me that anyone in the Pro Peloton is "clean". I'll still watch, with half a mind toward the doping results which come with regularity nowadays....
Here are photos of a prototype for what ultimately became the Reds 1999 road uniforms. They were considering going to a black sleeve instead of a vest. Yikes. And the thick-stripes on the pants were just plain ugly. I am quite pleased that they gave the thumbs down to this idea.

Those are very softball-ish. I love all of these uniforms-that-never-were that people have posted today. Keep 'em comin'.

• There was a small display of women’s baseball ephemera — and sure enough, that’s where I spotted A League of Her Own director Penny Marshall, who looked much, much worse than this photo indicates.

Interestingly enough (to me anyway), my dad and I sat directly in front of Penny Marshall and David Lander at a Dodgers game in L.A. when I was a kid. My dad asked me if I knew who it was and I said 'Laverne'. Then he asked if I knew the other person. I said 'No' and he told me it was Squiggy. He looked more like this than this, so I didn't recognize him really. On the way home my dad said they were talking about a women's baseball movie that Penny was working on.
