Hm. By my own logic, Hughes should be credited with 6 2/3 innings.

And Zach! C'mon, Zach, don't be so nitpicky. What do you think this is? An obsession for details board?
Sorry pal.

I get the same way when people refer to hockey as having 3 quarters instead of periods.
You know I'm just messing with you, right?

There are actually people who say hockey has three quarters? That doesn't even make logical sense.

tessa, it does seem like Hughes should get credit for the next two pitches since he would be on the hook for any runner on base. 6 1/2 innings sounds about right to me.

Slight correction - 6 1/3 innings
Sorry. Clearly my typo-prone left ring finger felt that Hughes should have gotten credit for first few pitches to Teixeira. Or something like that. :)
Man, one can't navigate away from the page for a minute without being rendered redundant by the quick responses of this well-educated blog community (I jest, I jest...). :P
I know! I had to chastise Teebz earlier for this very thing. At least at this time, it's just you, me, and Joey Guns. Maybe Frankie is still here.

Of course, I could have held off on asking before I looked it up, but where is the fun in that?
Minna:

Phil Hughes is the casualty.

A little background: We Yankees fans have been waiting for him to come up for a long time because he has been developing in the minors. Because of the (many, many, many) other injuries to the starting rotation, he was brought up a little earlier than expected. There was much rejoicing. Then he stunk a little in his first outing. Tonight, he looked amazing. Amazing. He had a no-hitter through 6 1/2 innings and had to leave with a "significant" hamstring injury that will likely have him out for at least two months (if they bring him back to the majors at all this year).

Hughes has previously gone high-socked, but chose complete pajama pants for this game. Maybe he should have stuck with the high socks. :(
