Here is the section of the U.S. Flag Code that talks about the display of the flag on the sleeve. Here is the link.

§176. Respect for flag

(j) No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.
Doesn't that refer to actually using the physical flag as a fabric/material? And wouldn't the American National Team for the National Past-time be a "patriotic organization?"

I think the second option is the best choice, just because the font reminds me of the US military (to fit the charging flag). If we're using the uniforms to defend our nation's sport, it makes sense.
This brings up an interesting thing that honestly kind of bothers me, and that is teams putting the flag on their uniforms in general. The flag has no place on the uniform of a professional or college sports club. I say that from the standpoint that it's just plain disrespectful to put a flag on a uniform that is designed to get dirty and often ends up on the ground. I seriously cringe every time i see a team with stickers or patches representing the flag on a holiday. Just my $.02...
I disagree with you but i can understand your point except for your point about wearing a flag patch on uniforms that will get dirty or wind up on the ground. I say this because i'm fairly certain that most of the US infantry troops wear flag patches, and they tend to get much dirtier than your average ball player.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it before but Paul Konerko is the captin for the Chicago White Sox. When asked if he wanted to don the "C" on his jersey, he refused, claiming that he didn't want to stand out in front of his teammates. This is an example of a true team leader -- that and winning the World Series.

I know I'm a little late but I thought that you would like to know.

Not a one of those USA baseball unis looks like anything but crap. How about something a little more tasteful? We don't need stars and stripes, that's what the flag is for. Maybe just blue unis with white script "USA" shadowed in red. And yeah, those are terrible lids.

<strike>The</strike> Blackburn Rovers (in the EPL) have already released their jersey designs for next season:

Home

Previously they wore all red away shirts.
Oddly, that seems to be the first time they've gone for the obvious Red & Black halves for an away shirt, I think. Normally, they tend to use red and/or black for away strips, but not halves. The new away's quite like Genoa's home
What I found particularly odd about the new aways is that the sleeves are not opposite the color of their shirt side (so while the left side of the home shirt is blue, the left sleeve is white).

Looking at that first one, the font is almsot exactly the same as the one used by the Cubs. The zero is identical, and the only difference in the seven is that it seems to be sawn off at the corners.
