Beside SF rugby recent tendancy, there are a lot more pink teams than people think, not to mention the gay factor in Stade Français case, including a nude players calendar and a gay (very) friendly owner. In fact, there’s even more pink in mens sports than womens : cycling team T-Mobile from Germany, legendary Juventus who at times wears a pink away jersey to remind its original 1897 colors, or Palermo, also from Italy . It’s funny how only tough, manly teams wear pink. You don’t wanna mess with these rugby players or Palermo angry hooligans in Sicily, who just killed a cop last month.
Did anyone notice that the Division II champions Barton College have a small “Bulldogs” imprinted on the back of their jersey near the collar? I don’t have a pic, but it’s there. I haven’t seen anything like that on anyother basketball team.
I noticed yesterday that Greg Oden still had the blood stains on his jersey from Thursday’s game. I would have thought at this level that they’d have extras on hand, or that Nike would be able to overnight them a new one. Maybe it was a superstition thing. You can kind of see them here.

im coaching my little brother’s coach’s pitch team this year. we are the athletics, and i was wondering if any one knew a good site to order kid size stirrups. i’m really excited about him getting to wear the green w/ the yellow sani’s, but everybody in the family thinks im obessed weirdo!

Can’t find any photos, but back in the ’60s and ’70s, the University of Kansas track squad wore a variation of red and blue that was more pink and baby blue. This was back when Bob Timmons was coach and among his athletes was miler Jim Ryan.
I didn’t think the new USMNT third jersey was all that bad in action. We should’ve worn white shorts though, I think it would look better.
Since the main pic was a pink jersey, the US Women’s National Team will wear a pink jersey (for breast cancer research I think) rather soon (in next couple of friendlies).

No, they shouldn’t. They should stand up to Nike and demand a reasonably unique jersey, at least as far as the third jerseys are concerned.

Just saw Shooter, and toward the end of the movie, Marky Mark has some major logo creep (or, as they call it in the movies, product placement) on a ski hat he’s wearing in the snow. UnderArmour must have shelled out some big bucks.
the psychological effects are what you make of them. Some guys would never wear pink unis, let alone a pink shirt. Some could care less. Professional athletes probably don’t care as much as other men might: what does a world-class rugby player do to prove he’s manly besides play rugby? Just cuz he’s wearing a pink jersey, doesn’t mean he’s not man enough to beat the crap out of another guy.
And then there’s the ability to turn it around and make a perceived “negative” a positive: imagine the psychological blow of being laid-out by a guy wearing pink.
My favorite usage of pink in sports is Iowa coach Hayden Fry ordering the visiting team’s locker room to be painted pink. I still find the pics hilarious. Fry has a background in psychology and assumed, correctly, that pink locker rooms would be unsettling, irritating, and otherwise distracting to opponents.

I agree completly. In fact I like all of their basketball unis. I think people look down on them mainly based on what the football uniforms looked like. And when comparing them to some of the other monstrosities out there (i.e. Memphis) they are some of the best you’ll come across.
Mike Engle: Yes, FIFA mandates the use of frontal uni numbers. The reason the Premiership, and most of the leagues, don’t use numbers on the front is sponsorship. Having a number makes the jersey to busy and take attention away from the sponsor. Of the top of my head, Brazil is the only league that has front uni numbers at club level. Check out Flamengo’s kit.

Speaking of pink, the North High School Polar Bears (Des Moines, Iowa) used to have green and pink as their school colors. I thought it was cool because it was pretty unique, but the players always hated the pink, and eventually they did away with it, changing to green and silver.
I’m so sick of seeing the brand Nike basketball jerseys everywhere on TV and the internet. Georgetown, Ohio State, and Florida all have the disgusting Nike style jerseys. Watching North Carolina v. G’Town and Oregon v. Florida where all of the teams involved had those stupid shoulder stripes made me want to throw something at my tv. Whatever happened to individuality – stop making every team identical! At least UCLA made it into the final four, so we will have their beauties to look at for a while longer.
My sophomore year of high school I played rec basketball (95-96) we were named the Sonics yet we were given pink t-shirt jerseys. Next year same team, magically changed to a dark blue jersey.
for once nike doesnt use a template, and theyre great. did you see the 2002 world cup? every nike team had the same template, so before you jump on adidas, realize that this is the first time in i cant even remember how long since nike hasnt used a template.
Pink looks better on men than women, but there is still no room in sports for it. To my surprise, I really like the soccer team’s alternate kit, even with the blue shorts. I am rooting for the Hoyas to win, partially based on uni, which would bust my own brackets, but I’m ok with that.

I love how, in the caption for the picture, it says that Oden “reacts”, and yet, he has the same expressionless look on his face that he always has. If Ohio State wins the National Title on a last second full court heave from Oden himself, he still won’t exude any joy.

I don’t know about Minnesota, but in Florida, we are not allowed to wear headbands with logos and such on them. However, one of my teammates and I both have logos on our headbands (he has a Nike logo and I have a U.S. Tennis Open logo on mine). What we do to get around it is put the logo on the back of our heads so that their out of the way. Despite this, one of our other teammates always gets caught for his New Balance logo. I think my logo would be acceptable because it’s not a logo of a company. I haven’t had any problems with referees over it, but they do yell at me about my socks. I wear the knee-high socks and the referees really have a problem with that for some reason. But that’s for another day.

It’s amazing, if not something else, that a certain color is associated with a lifestyle (or whatever).
Do colors actually have that much power and influence?
Is pink a “less masculine” color than red or blue or … you name it?
Is the light blue of North Carolina and UCLA less powerful than the darker blue of Duke and Penn State?

the psychological effects are what you make of them. Some guys would never wear pink unis, let alone a pink shirt. Some could care less. Professional athletes probably don’t care as much as other men might: what does a world-class rugby player do to prove he’s manly besides play rugby? Just cuz he’s wearing a pink jersey, doesn’t mean he’s not man enough to beat the crap out of another guy.
And then there’s the ability to turn it around and make a perceived “negative” a positive: imagine the psychological blow of being laid-out by a guy wearing pink.

My favorite usage of pink in sports is Iowa coach Hayden Fry ordering the visiting team’s locker room to be painted pink. I still find the pics hilarious. Fry has a background in psychology and assumed, correctly, that pink locker rooms would be unsettling, irritating, and otherwise distracting to opponents.

Mike Engle: Yes, FIFA mandates the use of frontal uni numbers. The reason the Premiership, and most of the leagues, don’t use numbers on the front is sponsorship. Having a number makes the jersey to busy and take attention away from the sponsor. Of the top of my head, Brazil is the only league that has front uni numbers at club level. Check out Flamengo’s kit.

Here’s an article that I came across about the Georgetown hoops team changing out of their “unlucky” Jordan XX2 shoes at halftime on friday…which obviously made all of the difference in the second half.
Its not working too well for them today so far. (I think some of the UNC players are actually wearing Jordan XX2s…)

Love the US soccer shirts with the white pinstripes. Should be worn with white shorts (or, barring that, blue shorts with the same pinstripes).
Front jersey numbers look much better than some ugly advertisement.

Speaking of pink, the North High School Polar Bears (Des Moines, Iowa) used to have green and pink as their school colors. I thought it was cool because it was pretty unique, but the players always hated the pink, and eventually they did away with it, changing to green and silver.

I’m so sick of seeing the brand Nike basketball jerseys everywhere on TV and the internet. Georgetown, Ohio State, and Florida all have the disgusting Nike style jerseys. Watching North Carolina v. G’Town and Oregon v. Florida where all of the teams involved had those stupid shoulder stripes made me want to throw something at my tv. Whatever happened to individuality – stop making every team identical! At least UCLA made it into the final four, so we will have their beauties to look at for a while longer.

My sophomore year of high school I played rec basketball (95-96) we were named the Sonics yet we were given pink t-shirt jerseys. Next year same team, magically changed to a dark blue jersey.

Pink looks better on men than women, but there is still no room in sports for it. To my surprise, I really like the soccer team’s alternate kit, even with the blue shorts. I am rooting for the Hoyas to win, partially based on uni, which would bust my own brackets, but I’m ok with that.

Now, I know advertising brands aren’t legal in college, but is the same true for high school? I’m in MN, if that helps.
If no one knows, perhaps someone can point me in a general direction to find out? Thanks.

I don’t know about Minnesota, but in Florida, we are not allowed to wear headbands with logos and such on them. However, one of my teammates and I both have logos on our headbands (he has a Nike logo and I have a U.S. Tennis Open logo on mine). What we do to get around it is put the logo on the back of our heads so that their out of the way. Despite this, one of our other teammates always gets caught for his New Balance logo. I think my logo would be acceptable because it’s not a logo of a company. I haven’t had any problems with referees over it, but they do yell at me about my socks. I wear the knee-high socks and the referees really have a problem with that for some reason. But that’s for another day.

I would, but Duke and UCLA wear more of a royal blue, whereas Carolina wears both Columbia and Navy blue and Penn State wears Navy blue.
