Red, black, and gold is the nicest 3-color combo in the color spectrum. I'm thrilled that they brought this back in such a big way. I can't believe so many people are complaining about it.

I like the red alternates (im a man who isnt afraid of color). It brings some character into the EVER SO BORING world of Baseball uniforms. But the Pirates new spring training/practice cap has to go! I LOVE ALL BLACK NFL UNI's!!! Saints, Jaguars, Ravens...it looks good guys! Drop shadows on the numbers looks good too! What i cant stand is the all the satin/glimmery broadway queer flash that all the NBA jerseys have now! they ruined the Chicago Bulls Jerseys with the glossyness! AND CAN SOMEBODY TELL ME WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH THE WIZARDS ALTERNATE JERSEYS?!?!?!! They look like bathing suits from 1923!!!!

Does anyone else hate how all the super bowl stuff has ’south florida’ instead of ‘miami’ on it?

Yes. Silly little things like that are why I’m a college football fan and not an NFL guy.

If the NFL ran things the way college football does, #1 San Diego would be facing #2 Baltimore in the Tostitos BCS World Championship game presented by AT&T. I'll take a real title game with "South Florida" than colleges "championship" any day.
Yeah, and if the NFL ran things the way college football does, late-season games would actually mean something, across the board.
Huh?

There were playoff implications for a record # of teams this season going into week 17!

As a long-suffering Bucs fan, I wouldn't mind if they dressed like the '76 White Sox if it meant they'd still be in contention after September first!

Also, every time I see a red alt., the first thing that pops into my head is Olbermann shouting "Dairy Queen!" during a Twins highlight a bunch of years back on Sportscenter, referring to Minnesota's softball-esque red Sunday jersey.

That said, maybe I've just gotten used to the color, but I really don't mind the red jersey as much as I thought I would (maybe, as someone said, it's the yellow highlights that save it for me). And I totally dig the red-billed cap...I sill have one from a few years back, but it's fitted and a little on the tight side for my huge noggin.

I dunno, as a follower (and wearer) of all things Pittsburgh, I might be that I'm just a little psyched to have a splash of color other than black and gold in the mix. Don't get me wrong...I love that all the 'Burgh's teams feature the same colors...but variety is the spice of life!
I don't know if anybody caught this before, but Gene Wojciechowski's NFL season-prediction-recap column says:

"77. The Minnesota Vikings will win every meaningful award for Ugliest Uniforms by an NFL Franchise.

Correct. The only way the Vikings lose this distinction is if the University of Oregon becomes an expansion franchise."

The full column
I think there are worse uniforms in the NFL.

The Bengals, Bills, and Ravens come to mind.

The batting practice hat on the right is aweful as well. Is that red ear padding?

Having spent the entire weekend working at PirateFest, I have to say that the fans here seem to like the new jerseys, judging by how many are not only being bought, but also worn. Personally, I like the idea, just not the execution. I think red, black and gold is too much, and they should've made the red jersey with sleeves. The pinstripes are still there, meaning the Bucs have four uniforms, but three are for home (it's my understanding that only the grays will be road unis; red will be for home Fridays).

Of course it's a marketing ploy, but EVERY team does it. None can be excluded from criticism, and that includes the Yankees, who may not wear anything but pinstripes and basic gray, but they don't shy away from licensing apparel in hideous shades of pink, baby blue, tan, green, etc. And people buy them.

It could have been worse. They could have chosen to go with the following design as their cap design along with the red vest:

The red is hidious. I thought theylearned the lesson from a few years ago. The Pirates should incorporate the hat that they wore in 72-75 yellow with the black bill into their scheme. That would be classy.
