Back in 1970, the first year of the NFL-AFL merger, I watched with heightened interest to see what fonts would be used for the old NFL teams' nameplates. The L.A. Rams had a font that used this same variable width. I specifically remember Tom Mack's uniform; the nameplate looked a lot like that of Lee "LACY" on the Pirate link.
