Lace-ism

laces.gif

Consider the humble shoelace. Or better yet, let reader John Muir consider it for you:

Look at this picture of Marc Savard in Boston’s home uniform, complete with yellow laces. In the background is Tampa’s Brad Richards, with the standard white laces.

There’s something clean and beautiful about both players’ laces in that photo. Savard had worn white laces in previous stops with Calgary and the Rangers but switched to yellow soon after he was traded to Atlanta (before, after). Ovechkin has been going with the yellow laces, but it looks awkward, because yellow isn’t one of the Capitals’ colors. Jagr did it in Pittsburgh (cool) Washington (see: Ovechkin), and currently in the sewers of Manhattan (ugh). I’ve seen black laces before, but cannot find any sort of documentation. I think someone on Dallas.

What’s my point? Colored laces, with the right team, complete a uniform. I’m surprised more players don’t do it.

So is Muir in favor of, say, the Canadiens wearing blue or red laces, or the Devils wearing red laces? “I think it would look cool if done right,” he says. “Minnesota wouldn’t look too bad with Christmas-colored laces; the Isles could pair the orange third with orange laces and I’d be all for it.”

Intriguing concept (although one that I can’t really get behind). The most interesting thing about shoelaces, it seems to me, is how the protocols vary from sport to sport. In hockey, most players still wearing white laces against their black skates, creating a nice contrast (although there are more and more players wearing gold, including, as Michael Rich recently pointed out to me, Slava Kozlov). But football laces are largely contast-free, with lots of black laces on black shoes and white on white (although there are occasional exceptions, like Joey Porter’s gold laces, Greg Spires’s red, and Jim Maxwell’s orange). Back in the preseason, there were reports that Matt Hasselbeck, who wears black shoes, was actually instructed by the officials to trade in his white shoelaces for black, although I’m a bit skeptical of this, in part because Hasseleck had worn white laces in the past without incident.

MLB cleats and laces usually match, whether the color is black, blue, red, or white. There are some exceptions, however, and there are also situations where the laces match the trim instead of the shoe’s primary color. I also seem to recall some of the Reds wearing red laces a few years back, but I can’t remember the details. Anyone..?

NBA kicks are so elaborately designed these days that there’s no defining shoelace trend. For the most part, though, black sneakers are accessorized with matching black laces, while white shoes sometimes have colored laces and sometimes have white, which sometimes are designed to contrast against a colored tongue.

Getting back to hockey, there’s another kind of lacing to consider: the lace-up collar, which is usually white, as seen in these pics of the Islanders, Rangers (home, road), Coyotes, Oilers, Leafs, Blue Jackets, Avalanche, and Wild. A few teams, however, opt for dark laces, including the Thrashers and Flames.

Meanwhile, here’s a subject for further research: Several years back — maybe in the 1990s, before Uni Watch’s debut — I believe there was a company marketing sports shoelaces made with solid gold aglets (those are the little tips at the ends of laces). They were supposedly “premium” laces for “the athlete who demands the best,” or some bullshit like that. I can’t find any background info on this, though.

And finally, in the unlikely event that you want to know still more about shoelaces, look here.

Uni Watch News Ticker: Uni Watch publicist Carrie Klein came back from her family’s Xmas gathering with the following news: “My mom, unbeknownst to me until last night, collects old photos of kids in school (not sports) uniforms. The entire front hall of her condo is decorated with them. It’s nuts. There are striped socks aplenty! … Not quite uni-related, but I judged a pretty hilarious baseball-centric haiku contest a few days ago. Details here. … Take a close look at this photo of Hines Ward from Super Bowl XL. It almost looks like his right-leg stocking has a zipper running through it. … Interesting blog about uni numbers here. … Jesse Spector notes that the NFL Network, which runs lots of old NFL Films footage during the day, is offering a free preview on many cable systems this week (Ch. 199 on Time Warner systems in New York). “Today I watched the season films of the ‘69 Chiefs and ‘82 Jets,” he writes. “Noticed lots of uniform stuff, like Willie Lanier’s helmet having a big bump in the middle, the huge numbers the Jets had on their shoulder pads in the ’80s, and stuff like the Chiefs having their helmet and the opposing team’s helmet painted together at midfield for home games.” … Check out what Tom Hoffman got for Christmas. … Odd typography at Middle Tennessee State, as observed by Alan Topolski, who writes: “It seems like MTSU has a font size for the nameplate that changes depending on the length of the player’s last name.” The only other team I can think of that did something similar was the bumblebee-era Pirates, as seen on the Lee Lacy jersey shown in this page from Bill Henderson’s indispensable Double Knit Era Collector’s Reference.

Don’t the Revolution helmets now have a similar raised section in the middle (like the Lanier one)? Maybe he was on to something *very* early… or maybe he had an alien head.

Revolution helmet - you can kinda see the bump

The Revolution helmet does have a slight raise, but that raise in the Lanier helmet is friggin’ huge!

Good observation about the laces on hockey skates. The reason for different colours are because there are two different types of laces, waxed and regular. The waxed laces are yellow and tend to give a tighter fit when tying the skates up. Most of the white ones are not waxed. It just depends on a players preference. It is possible that there are now waxed laces in different colours, but to any older hockey player, they know yellow laces equals waxed laces.

Re: A font size for the nameplate that changes depending on the length of the player’s last name

I believe the University of Tennessee football team did this at one point as well.

Willie Lanier’s helmet was a special padded helmet that had padding on the exterior. Check helmethut.com in the NFL section for info on the Chiefs/Lanier helmet. (Sorry no direct link.)

Yea I think it was during Peyton Manning’s tenure, not sure if they still do it nowadays.

One football team that still sports white laces on black cleats is Alabama. The Tide briefly flirted with white shoes during the 80s, but Bill Curry switched them back to the traditional black, and most of the players opt to wear the Stabler/Namath - esque black cleats with white laces.

On a uni Christmas note, I got this as a gift. My little sister is a sophmore at BU and has become a big hockey fan. I thought this was an awesome gift. And before any of you make any “logo creep” or “evil empire” comments, I love Nike products and the Nike brand.

Logo creep! Evil empire!

USC wears white laces as well.

I currently have black laces in my skates because I broke one a couple of weeks ago, but I love the concept of matching the laces with a uni color. I think Savard looks great - except for the stupid uni number. Heck, anything to keep my eyes away from the new jerseys that they’re going to debut at the All-Star game.

But one day it may end up like this!!!!!

Of course, Joe Namath broke with the trend and wore his signature white shoes, even at Alabama.

But here’s a weird shot of him nursing his knee with ice, while wearing bermuda shorts, but he still has his jersey and shoulder pads on.

Forgetting the evil empire stuff…

Take away the Boston on the second jersey, focus purely on the aesthetics…that’s not a bad looking jersey.

Yes, they put it on EVERYTHING, but the swoosh is a very simple, very nice logo.

I completely agree. One of the most unfortunate aspects of Nike’s world-domination scheme is that they’ve completely besmirched an excellent piece of design. Too bad.

some jersey numbers just look good on a player and the number 12 in that block style font (bama, penn st.) just looks cool…

Sweet jersey, but you have to agree the logo on a hockey sweater belongs on the back right hemline.

Eric Davis sporting the red laces.

The thing about Logo Creeps is that they occasionally serve the greater good. While i still am annoyed by most of them, I do see some that are actually good. When you see a soccer field or basketball court with a big Nike Swoosh on it, you automatically think that Nike is destroying the integrity of the sport but if Nike didnt pay for that court to be built then would it have ever been? If Nike puts up a bunch of courts and fields all over the world, then they should be allowed to advertise on the courts that they paid for. Obviously they dont care about the people that play on them, they just want the advertising and revenue that comes from it but the end result is still the same. A court was built where one wasnt before. Some kids are going to grow up with a place to play ball where they might otherwise not have had the chance.

The same goes for colleges to a lesser degree. If Nike wants to pay for the equipment of a team and possibly save some money for the school, then why shouldnt they get to put their logo on the jersey?

I get annoyed when it is overdone or grossly tactless.

In essence, what I am saying is dont be so quick to write off every Logo Creep.

What is the *best* logo creep ever?

I submit:

McMahon’s rebellious Adidas neckband — only because he was wearing it not only to support Adidas but to tick off the NFL infrastructure.

Can’t forget Jamie Moyer’s cleat/lace/stirrup combination. If he could figure out his pant length he would be one of the best dressed in baseball.

Getting away from the shoelace theme, I think the “Maddux” half-up-half-down look is horrible. I would even take the pj look over that. But this look takes the cake.

No idea why my link failed above… here’s McMahon

I just recently came across my nomination for the worst logo creep.

Bill Snyder was the greatest football coach in Kansas State history. He has written a few books in the past, but in June of 06 he released his most recent, an autobiography that chronicles the journey of transforming a laughing-stock football program into one of the country’s more elite programs. This book should be viewed as a great personal achievement, but comes off as a strange Nike-esque advertisement due to the cover, sad.

As a combat veteran, it makes me proud when someone chooses the military path. It is difficult to watch your son go off to war. The hardest thing to do is respect his decision even when you don’t agree with it. I wish this young man much luck in his endeavour.

However, I find it amusing that the article lists his training as, ‘Officer Cadet School.’ I went to Officer Candidate School. This cadet course must be for the Boy Scouts….or Air Force. :)

I know there have been some posts recently about the new NHL uniforms. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything more than what has already been posted here. I do find it odd that the NHL didn’t even put the All Star Game sweaters on sale in time for Christmas. RBK and the league must really be scared about what the public reaction is going to be. That doesn’t instill a lot of confidence in what is coming. I also find it unfortunate that the league is letting RBK shove the new designs down its throat. Shouldn’t it be the NHL telling the manufactuer what it wants and not the other way around? As his been mentioned here many times, we have seen the epidemic of “template” unis (e.g., college football, the new MLB batting practice jerseys). I hope this is a trend that is stopped soon. Hopefully the public outcry over the new NHL unis will be so overwhelming that the league and RBK will be forced to run shelve this idea permanently.

Speaking of Namath and Alabama, I was thumbing through a book on Namath at the bookstore last week, and in it was a photo of him playing in a game where some of the Bama players have red helmets on and some have white. It looked like the guys with white helmets were backs and receivers. There seemed to be a trend in the 60’s to have receivers have different helmet markings. Is this what was going on here?

The primary reason for those yellow laces is many models of Graf brand skates come with them-especially the higher-end models that pros would wear.

The NHLPA is their biggest stumbling block right now. I reported a few weeks ago that the NHLPA is unhappy with the jerseys, and they voted down the tuck-in rule as well as the changing of the Maple Leafs logo. The reason the All-Star jerseys haven’t gone on sale is that the NHL is planning a big ceremony in Dallas in regards to the new jerseys. You won’t see them before February.

Yesterday I checked out one of PL’s sidebar links and then tried, without success to find what’s described as follows: “In 1936, the [Chicago Bears] team unveils a uniform described years later by an NFL publication as ‘an early version of psychodelia [sic].’ Bruising fullback Bronko Nagurski and his mates wear a dark helmet with three orange stripes from front to back, a white jersey with 14 navy and orange alternating stripes on the sleeves and shoulders. The socks look like something the Munchkins would wear in the Land of Oz, with alternating navy and orange stripes from the ankle to the knee. The look lasts just one year.”

I’d love to see that! Of course with today’s sleeve lengths the sleeve stripes would have to be about a millimeter wide.

Google gives a few results for the ‘36 Bears, but the ones I found all showed more conventional uni looks.

I do find it odd that the NHL didn’t even put the All Star Game sweaters on sale in time for Christmas.

Not only that, but if you go to the January schedule listing on NHL.com, the All-Star Game isn’t even listed. The schedule just jumps from Jan. 20th to the 26th. It’s almost like they’re ashamed of their own showcase.

Was anyone expecting the NHL to do something . . . right? When did that last happen?

While looking for Tennessee name plates I found this Tennessee State 1930’s picture.

Nice strips.

The NHL has done many things right in the last year. Scoring is up slightly, the excitement is back, and the fans have returned in traditional markets.

Let’s not forget that we’re talking about a sport that ranked behind the Westminster Dog Show in terms of TV ratings thanks to the Neutral Zone Trap (that’s like a swear to us hockey purists).

I’ve got the NFL Network on (gotta love that freebie), and they’re showing Super Bowl VI. First SB I ever watched (I was 7 yrs old), and one of the worst of all time, but some great uni bits: The Cowboys took the field wearing amazing baseball-style jackets; the chain gang guys are wearing red stirrups; the Dolphins have orange belts; etc., etc.

They just showed upteen replays of that horrible 23-yard sack of Griese. As a kid, I think that’s when I knew the game was over.

Unfortunatley, you’re right. The NHL hasn’t done anything right for years. I had high hopes for Nettman when he became commissioner. I thought the NHL was on the precipce of becoming something huge. But then came the strike after the ‘94-’94 season and they couldn’t capitilize on the great story of the Rangers’ Stanley Cup victory, then a decade later the cancelled season. THe NHL has been condemned to be run by a bunch of boobs. Bettman isn’t the first. Remember the “invisible commissioner,” John Ziegler. Nobody could find the guy while the whole fiasco over the refs and Jim Schoenfeld’s suspension was going on during the Devils vs. Bruins Wales Conference Finals was going on (the infamous “Have another donut” incident).

They can improve the game without killing all of its traditions. By the way, I’ve read in The Hockey News recently that the league is toying with the idea of increasing the size of the nets to increase scoring.

Again, the game evolved into a defensive stand-still. It happened in the NBA, it happened in MLB, and it happened with the NHL. The biggest evolution in the NHL was the quality of goaltending, and it started with Patrick Roy in 1983. Notice how he was successful for two decades without changing his style. You can’t say that about Grant Fuhr. You can’t say that about Tom Barrasso. You can’t even say that about Chris Osgood. Goaltending, over the last 20 years, has improved exponentially compared to the earlier eras of the NHL.

And the NHL has already killed the idea of making the nets larger.

I used to do stupid crap to match up little things with the uniform, usually just the colour I’d tape my stick up would match my jersey colour. It was always only me until one season in my late teens where it caught on pretty quick and eventually my line, and a couple of defencemen had their sticks taped green (our goalie also rocked a green bandana under his mask, I also had a green mouthguard).

I also wore waxed laces for much of my life, younger years it was just to make tying them easier (although waxed laces hurt your hand like a mother) and then later on I just kept buying them as a force of habit. I noticed that they didn’t tear as easy as non-waxed ones. Non-waxed laces guys would go through about 2 laces a season per skate, waxed I went 2 years without changing them. The only drawback I ever saw to them was that they’d leave an ugly stain on the tongue of the skate in whatever colour the wax was. When I finally bought nice skates I ended the tradition and bought plain old black laces.

How did Nike get him to do this???

look at the entry for 1962 for the answer concerning white helmets on Alabama players:

I agree the product is better - but Colin Campbell recently said they’ll be looking at expanding the nets…I don’t want to see bigger nets - I want to see the icing touch up eliminated, I want to see officials get back to calling penalties, not little shirt tugs - and I want to see the Rangers go more than one game without a 5 on 3 against them.

I think the NHL game of today is very entertaining. The only thing I would change is to get rid of the regular season overtimes and let a tie be worth 1 point.

BTW, John Ziegler was the President of the NHL not Commissioner. Bettman is the 1st one to have that title, although I am not sure of the differences in duties.

Agreed. The NHL is more fun to watch today then was the pre-lock out game. That said, the “non-game” related changes Bettman, et al have made have left much to be desired.

Ziegler was a buffon, no matter what his title.

Here’s hoping that the Rangers keep the diagonal “RANGERS” and don’t make the Staute of Liberty head their new primary jersey logo I also don’t want to see a return to the shield logo on the jersey either.

But that’s a part of the fun of branding and of seeing companies handle their brands. They might mean quality, and we might all accept that. But we (as consumers of the brands) also know when they go too far. We (consumers) then begin to reject the brands.

The appearance of waxed laces has indeed increased due to use by European players but for the most part it is not a stylistic thing!! It has to do with the brand of skates many of them use, Graf!! Graf is a company that was founded in Switzerland some 80 yrs or so ago and for the most part, yellow waxed laces come standard on there skates. While I am sure there is the odd player that chooses the yellow because they think it’s cool, for the most part it is what they have used their whole lives and as the Graf brand has increased in popularity so has the occurence of yellow laces in the NHL! Oh by the way, I wear Graf and they are the best!!

I apologize for my language, Bill. :o)

The NHL has dismissed larger nets as an idea that will never happen. It will ruin hockey as we know it. Thery know this, and, although they talk about it, it will never happen.

As for touch-up icing, this has been demanded by many people over the years. After Pat peake had his career ruined by tearing all the tendons and ligaments in his ankle by crashing into the boards full speed going for an icing, this is a hot topic. Brad Bombardir, when he was playing in the AHL, had his leg broken and missed half a season. With the rules as they are today in the NHL where a team cannot change players if they ice the puck, this rule should be changed for safety reasons.

The “shirt tugs” aren’t as bad as you think, but it was that kind of obstruction that was slowing down the NHL’s best players. With Crosby and Jagr and Malkin and Kovalchuk and Hossa being able to skate and not worry about being held or obstructed, the NHL has become exciting and fast-paced again. Besides, Bill… with the complaints about refs calling obstruction, you’d think you were a NZT Devils’ fan. :oP

I went to a high school game last night and to my horror the team my alma mater was playing was wearing the ohiostate/SIU/mutiple other team template IN PURPLE AND BLACK!!!!! Paul’s soul might have died if he saw it.

Has the NBA always imprinted the home teams names on the balls being used??? L ook at this picture you can clearly read Orlando Magic. Or is this some new with the “new ball

Shocking! A leg guard that blends in to the uniform leg…what a concept. maybe other hitters should take a cue.

When did BU go back to Nike? I thought they were wearing Koronis.

Anyone know when the new Authentic 5950s with black underbills and polyester, like those worn by the Tigers in the World Series, start showing up more frequently?

Not sure if this is going to work but Garcia has been wearing what look to be silver laces… God I hate the Eagles.

He’s also wearing cleats that go for the retarded fake spats look.

God I hate the Eagles.

I just wish there were more hitting - I can understand calling flagrant obstruction calls - but you also have to allow a defenseman to play…defense. Look, I love to see an end to end rush as much as the next guy, but a textbook hip check or a guy getting a slobberknocker because he’s looking at the puck are just as appealing to me. I agree with Freddie “The Fog” Shero - if I want to see “pretty skating” I’ll go see the Ice Capades.

Hell, I saw DiPietro come out and initiate contact with Jason Ward last night in the FACEOFF CIRCLE and Ward was penalized for charging. If a goalie wants to come out that far, you should be able to blast him. He’s got the padding - he can take it.

Teebz, even you’ll admit that the officials are sometimes way too ticky tack with obstruction. By definition, “obstructing” is “impeding progress”. Well, if you’re still skating at full speed while my stick is in your hip, your progress isn’t impeded. If you fall down, well then I’ve impeded you. Most officials can tell a dive when they see it - I’d like to see more of THAT called, and the guys who throw their heads back when someone grazes them (Tyson Nash, Brendan Witt - has there ever been a more feminine “tough guy” than Brendan Witt?) That’s as bad as a dive to me.

USC wears white laces as well.

Good call, Brooks. You can’t talk about contrasting laces without mentioning USC. They’ve been doing it forever and it looks great! I think I might get a pair of white laces for one of my Christmas presents.

On a uni Christmas note, I got this as a gift. My little sister is a sophmore at BU and has become a big hockey fan. I thought this was an awesome gift. And before any of you make any “logo creep” or “evil empire” comments, I love Nike products and the Nike brand.

When did BU go back to Nike? I thought they were wearing Koronis.

BU actually wore Nike in the late 90s until 00-01.

In 01-02 (when I started covering the team for the student paper), they went to CCM jerseys. They wore CCM jerseys from that season to 03-04. In 04-05 and 05-06, BU started wearing Reebok branded jerseys (after the Reebok buyout of CCM and Reebok increased its presence in hockey). Midway through the 04-05 season, BU actually had a lot of guys start to wear the RBK helmets.

BU’s athletic dept as a whole went back to Nike this year. The only bad thing in my eyes has been the swooshes on the knees of the hockey socks. The biggest improvement has been to replica jerseys.

Koronis started making replicas when BU went to CCM. While the quality was solid, the font of the arched BOSTON was thinner and taller than the one used on game jerseys.

The two years using Reebok jerseys had replicas made by some no-name company that added a teardrop neckline to the jersey, even though BU doesn’t have it.

Nike/Bauer has gotten the font right, and the look right, which is good for sticklers like us on this site. They’ve also started selling the alternate jerseys, both home and away (I have the home white), which has been a big improvement.

And if all the links I put in this post work, I’ll be very happy.

somebody, please tell me you’re watching the pop warner super bowl on espn right now…HOLY mismatched socks and uniform code violations galore!

Man I don’t know what I’m doing, but these should work.

Koronis

Teardrop

Nike Bauer

What is the *best* logo creep ever?

I submit:

McMahon’s rebellious Adidas neckband — only because he was wearing it not only to support Adidas but to tick off the NFL infrastructure.

hahaha…

to say that headband is a logo creep is like saying the star is logo creeping on this cowboys uniform

btw…i’m pretty sure that deion use to wear a nike headband on his neck too, making a total of 12 swooshes on him (4 on each shoe and 2 on each glove…13 if he was wearing a nike headband)….sweet sassy molassy that’s a lot of nike!!

oh my…

believe it or not, there are actually more swooshes on deion’s shoes than what you can see, upping that total to at least 16 swooshes on him

Not sure if this is going to work but Garcia has been wearing what look to be silver laces… God I hate the Eagles.

What kind of shoes is Garcia wearing? He had worn some Vicks against the Panthers.

I knew that Nike had a contract with the entire Hockey East during the early 00’s, and that since then many teams have gone to their own endorsements. I thought that some one wore Koronis on ice, aside from the replicas. Either UMass or UMass-Lowell might have been that team, but it wears Nike now. I’m not sure about BC…hockey was the only sport I knew that used Nike, everything else was Reebok or adidas.

They make wax laces in white and yellow. They also make black laces. Back in the mid 90’s when it was all the rage to have black holders on the bottom of the skates black laces were also sold. They still sell the blacks but personally I use yellow wax laces.

Most european players use the yellow wax laces. I think they are sharp, if your team has some yellow in the colors

I have yet to see a hip check or a hard bodycheck while the player has the puck called as a penalty. As much as Shero is right, he needs to realize that the way the officials are calling the game is good for the game. People don’t wanna see 2-1 games where there are 4 total scoring chances. People enjoy end-to-end action. There have been many “slobberknockers” since the start of the 2005-06 season: Brain Campbell on RJ Umberger, for example. Hitting hasn’t been reduced… it’s been made relevant to the play now.

Hell, I saw DiPietro come out and initiate contact with Jason Ward last night in the FACEOFF CIRCLE and Ward was penalized for charging. If a goalie wants to come out that far, you should be able to blast him. He’s got the padding - he can take it.

I disagree. Goalies’ pads are meant to stop pucks, not protect them from a monster hit. And since there are only two goalies on a roster at any given time, what would stop a coach from having their best tough guy run a goalie to injure him and put him out of the game or playoff series?

Why is your stick on my hip? Skate a little faster, and put body on body. It’s no different than international hockey rules. If you stop moving your feet, you’re going to be penalized.

So what’s worse: Brendan Witt throwing his head back, or Paul Kariya or Brendan Morrison throwing themselves to the ice as if impaled by a stick when they’re barely breathed on? If one can do it, why can’t the other? I’m not saying Brendan Witt is right or justified, but if one side can take advantage of it, why can’t the other?

Brain Campbell

Wow… turkey at work makes for lazy editting.

I agree on most of your points - especially the diving thing. I used to love Kariya until I realized that he flops more than Greg Ostertag did in the NBA.

As far as the goalie thing, I still contend that if you’re a goalie and you come out of the crease and initiate contact on me, I should have the right to blast you. I used to see goalies go behind the net all the time and pinch people then flop like they got shot. Act like a hockey player and man up. I feel goalies should be protected in the crease at all costs, but if you want to come out of the crease, you’re fair game. Stay where you belong.

I’m with you. Just like in the NFL…once a QB starts to rush the ball you have every right to hit him like you would any other rusher, not more, but certainly not less.

Same with the goalie, don’t try to injure him but hitting him with the same force that you would any other player on skates should be allowed (once they come out of the crease).

Awesome one-of-a-kind mistake hat Bob Hope is wearing in this pic! *wink*

Bob Hope and President Ford

Anyone know when the new Authentic 5950s with black underbills and polyester, like those worn by the Tigers in the World Series, start showing up more frequently?

I was hat shopping today (new Red Sox 5950), and I didn’t see any poly 5950s at all. Maybe New Era scrapped the idea last second?

I thought Milan Hejduk wore yellow laces, but it appears that I’m wrong.

Bob Hope and President Ford

That isn’t a mistake. The picture is edited and turned around. Look at Hope’s shirt. How many shirts have the logo on the right side. It’s always on the left. The original had Hope on Ford’s right not on his left.

If you look at other parts of the picture, it’s clear that it’s not the hat that’s wrong, the picture is simply flipped. If You look at Ford’s zipper, it’s the right side that overlaps the left, whereas men’s pants have the left side overlapping the right. Same with the shirts. Also, Hope’s chest logo is on the right chest instead of the left chest where most companies put an identifying mark on such a polo.

So it’s SI’s fault, not Bob’s

dchis, I think that’s why ML put a wink in his post.

Hockeyheads, please define terms that you use, especially if they equate to swearing so I can be in on the joke.

MetsfanAZ!!! Yeah, I’m shouting at you because I NEED my Troy P.

Oh, MetsfanAZ, my shoutout to you was a continuation of your comment yesterday about the September issue of GQ that has Troy P. in it. If anybody has a spare copy lying around….

NZT = Neutral Zone Trap.
Left Wing Lock = a modified version of the NZT.

Basically, the NZT is a way of clogging up the ice area between the two blue lines, making rushes through the zone nearly impossible. With the new NHL rules, the Trap is nearly impossible due to obstruction rules.

Here is how the Left Wing Lock is explained. Like I said, it is a modified version of the trap.

Both are now the equivalent of cussing in the new NHL.

Ah, thanks, Teebz. I can always count on you to educate me on the rudimentaries of hockey.

The thing about Logo Creeps is that they occasionally serve the greater good.

In essence, what I am saying is dont be so quick to write off every Logo Creep.

maybe i’m wrong in my interpretation, but i have never read the term creep in ‘logo creep’ to be a noun. always as an action verb.

as in ‘this jersey is so plain that the potential for logo creep is overwhelming.’ or ‘jimmy johnsons race jersey was overflowing with logo creep.’ as though logos are creeping up like ants waiting to stick onto a uniform.

not like cavity creeps…
