No comments so far … guess it’s because the posted subject matter ISN’T ABOUT SPORTS. I’ve driven pretty fast in my time. Not once has a police officer ever suggested that I become a professional athlete because of it.

Anyone else notice ESPN’s huuuuuuuge mistake in the West Virginia-Rutgers game? They panned on a section of WVU fans, and stopped on a particular section for about five seconds, pretty close up, and the guy in the front row, clear as day, had a “West F***ing Virginia” sweatshirt on. They stopped on him for like 5 seconds. Uh-oh. Hello FCC.

Going back to the Reds new uni’s. I am with Paul. Lose the black brim on the cap. Just go with all red. Some teams look good with the two color cap/brim but not the Reds.
In reference to the Maple Leafs, they are probably just going to outline the “leaf” in black.
Add black = logo change.

What a mess this BCS year has turned out to be huh? Since no one can clearly define who gets to play Ohio for the championship I say they leave it up to the uniforms to be the deciding factor. Michigan over Florida. (tic)

I saw that too, but ESPN needn’t worry about the FCC, which has no authority to fine cable broadcasters. If this was an “ESPN on ABC” production, that would be a different story.
Also, the Giants will be wearing their red jerseys today, as they did against Dallas last season.

I have to be honest, I agree with Paul most of the time… but I really like the new Cinci uniforms. I liked the old 60s-80s uniforms, but I really think the drop-shadow *works* here.
And I hate drop shadows for the most part.
Compared to some other new MLB uniform mistakes (D-backs, Nats, etc.)– these are rather classy.

Briefly mentioned earlier, but the Nuggets busted out the 1967-68 ABA Denver Rockets throwbacks last night, complete with orange warmups and 40th anniversary patch on the shorts.
Watching the Chargers-Bills game – the black pants look a bit like the Cooperalls, but more like the bad track suit people wear over their bad shorts at the Y.
Add the bonus comedy of a buckled belt and the fact that the black pants blend a little too well with the Chargers’ dark blue pants/socks (to the point that the Umpire looks like an extra defender when the Bills have the ball) and it’s altogether ugly.
The pants stripe does match the arm stripe on the long sleeve windbreaker shirt thing, but the officials generally look like they lost a bet.

i think you guys are nuts
i like the saints in all black
the problem is that black has been bastardized and ruined
by so many other teams. Imagine if black was a less often used
scheme (gimmick?) by so many teams who do not wear it well.
If the saints and raiders were the only two NFL teams to rock it (correct me if im wrong but the only 2 teams who really have a claim to it as one of their major colours..j..jaguars? ravens?) than we would only have the silver and black & the black and gold in the NFL and i for one think that would be pretty sweet.
but you’ll probably all call me nuts cause i wouldnt mind seeing
the Ravens in there aill Black w/ Purple for big games either.
on another note
3rd td for Reggie Bush today. Congrats Mr President.
the bills in throwbacks and the ref’s in cooperalls makes for a surreal viewing experience. and i agree, putting Ed Hochuli in this conservative uniform is like putting Heidi Klum on the Jordanian soccer team.

The NY Giants alternate uniforms just scream “intramural football” to me… while less is more can be argued…i prefer the “nothing equals nothing” on this brand lame effort.

I don’t like the giants red jerseys at all. But i like the white with red, but wish they could add some blue to the white jersey to match the pants. The pants are very neat with those thin red and blue stripes

I LIKE THE SAINTS’ ALL-BLACK UNIS—just not the gold numbers.

Didn’t get any screen grabs of refs in buffalo, sorry. Going to be cold in Denver tonight, so everyone may get a second chance to see them
Giants red jerseys are too bright or something, hard to watch in high def without going blind.
I think the black is good, especially on a team like the saints that incorporates the color normally, I agree with Paul though on being against teams that use the color strictly for accent, like the Mets or formerly the Cincinatti Reds.
Titans looked like crap.
Buffalo looked good, but anything is better than their “standard” unis

…oh, and if I was in charge, I would also go to an all black version of the hat they used in the early 70’s

The Giants went all out with the red theme. They changed the nose bumper decal on all the helmets to a red NY to match the jerseys instead of the usual blue NY. It is still of the raised rubberized variety. Maybe they should put more resources into playing good football instead of on uni-related minutiae though.

Everybody wants to complain (well, most everybody, yes, we hear you, Minna) about the Saints’ all-black look. I seem to recall a thred earlier in the season while the Saints were wearing white at home that people were worrying Sean Payton was displaying “dark-jersey phobia” and that they wanted the black jerseys back. I know the ideal situation would probably be to have black jerseys and gold pants, but come on, people. You can’t have it both ways.
This is not a personal condemnation of anyone, and for those who like both looks or hate both of them, that’s fine, too.

Enough about the Giants already. I think we can all just agree that those red unis are hideous and move on, hoping never to see them again. On another hand, the Bills need to start wearing those throwbacks as their regular unis. Those are nice!
There are way too many football teams wearing the full-body colored jerseys today. This trend needs to go away. This is just a random thought, but does anyone know why the Dolphins don’t wear their blue pants much anymore?

There was an interesting article in Sunday’s Columbus Dispatch about the NFL Uniform Police – that are comprised of none-other-than former players. David Fulcher in Cincy and Felix Wright in Cleveland.
They touched on Fulcher’s brush with Ocho Cinco
From the article –
“Bengals inspector David Fulcher spied the bogus nameplate in warm-ups and told Johnson to remove it. After the Fox pre-game show aired clips of the stunt, the voice mail on Fulcherรขโฌโขs cell phone quickly filled.
“I had about 20 messages, almost all from the league office, telling me to get that thing off him,” said Fulcher, a partner in a sports-collectibles company.

Something interesting I just saw on a commercial for NBA League Pass where they ask the players what was their favorite thing to watch on League Pass. They are talking about Kobe’s 81 last year and they show Dwayne Wade in a locker room with all Heat stuff in lockers behind him. Then they show Captain Kirk Hinrich in a locker room and there is a Bulls warmup next to him and a Gilbert Arenas uniform behind him. This is weird. Why would they have a Wizards uni in the background when all the other lockers have Bulls stuff. Anti-Bulls propaganda I believe, just thought I would say something about this. No pics though. Later. Go Bulls.

San Jose’s Pavelski’s Reebok logo was still upside down on Saturday night. I’m surprised no one’s caught it yet.
In the NFL, I like the powder blue Titan’s unis, but not matched with the pants. I like dark blue with powder pants, or vice versa, as the shoulder yoke matches the pants. Also, in the Titans-Colts game today, they were two of only five NFL teams with white helmets. (Dolphins, Cardinals, and Jets, plus the Chargers and Bill throwbacks)
I don’t like the Saints in all black, especially without pants striping. Maybe okay with the white uniforms.
Giants in red? No way. And even the white unis look goofy with red trim, but a blue helmet. When will teams figure out that helmet color should match the uni color? (with the obvious exceptions, or course.)
I love the Bills’ throwbacks, hate their current unis.

couldn’t disagree more. knee jerk reax say that “ORANGE = BAD/HAVING SAME UNIFORMS FOR 200 YEARS = GOOD” . personally, i like the florida uniforms. esp the 60s throwbacks they pulled out earlier this year. i do have to say they could use a new helmet. the cursive ‘gators’ script does look a little dated. but the michigan helmet, well, it means nothing, its just a pattern that the princeton coaches used to differentiate receivers from defenders. if it had any connection to a wolverine (AND i know tghere is some argument that says its looks like a pattern on a wolverines head…whatever…)
butpersonally, if there is any color that needs to go, it is yellow. complain about purple and orange all you want. to me nothing looks worse, and less imposing, than yellow…and this isnt gold, here, but yellow…ughhh…
but also, any other year, and the team that loses latest ends up geting the shaft. why should there be an exception this year? also, michiga scores late to cur the 11 pt lead to 3. it wasnt as close as that. florida, on the other hand, got screwed on a terrible call inside auburns 10, and auburn scored on the last play of the game, to make it appear worse.

hey
it seems like i am completely in the minority on thiks board, b/c i seem to go against conventional wisdom every time but i LOVE the giants red…honestly, i see no reason why ever team cant have an alternate uniform. that way, if you Are mired in tradition and refuse to change your 300 year old uniform, you can add a look that allows the ‘traditional’ look to stay, but to add some variety to a look for fans who want something new
so, yeah, i LOVE the giiants red alternates. i loved the dolphins orange. i love the browns orange. i really like solid color unis. about the only thing i dont like is all white…ive said it before, but it reminds me of ’surrender’, with the white flag and all. i would wager that the all white uniform has been worn in more losses than any other uniform combination…no scientific proof, just an idea…
i dont see any reason in having a color in your trim or on your logo if you arent going to use it. and why all the complaints ove an alternate uniform that gets worn maybe twice a season? do ‘traditionalists’ have to have all of it, every single game with their preferred uniform? what does a 3rd jersey hurt? nothing, esp if it sells a few more jerseys and gets some more people interested in uniforms.
btw, i know i will be the minority here too, but i love hawaii’s uniforms, in every sportm, but i really love their football unis. i like the all black, whioch seems an odd choice, gven that the islands are so hot and humid, and a black uni would seem to only exacerbate that…
but i love the font on the jersey. i live the helmets. i really love the way samoan culture is represented in the design, incl the helmet strips and trim on the sleeves. i love the silver alternate helmet…i just think it looks amazing. i love the way the black has a green cast to it, and the same effect on the uniforms.
does anyone know if they have a dark jersey that is more green and less black?
just my .02. i know there are lots of you out there just waiting to pile on and say how nuts and moronic i am, but it is just an opinion. i just think that uniforms too often get stuck in ‘tradition’, even when those traditions were due to shortcomings or lack of options than any choice.
and personally, i think the worst color combination i can think of is yellow and black…and btw the steelers.pirates/boston bruins, etc are not ‘black and gold’ they are black and YELLOW!’
