I must disagree. I have hated the red pants from the day that the Redskins abandoned their cool yellow pants . . . how long has it been now, 25 or 30 years ago? The white-on-white was a welcome and long overdue change, so it is my hope that the red pants were a one-week aberration.

I agree wtih Dan. As a Redskins fan I must say that I welcome the change to the white pants. I think it looks much more sleek and classy. The Skins have managed to update their look without getting all crazy with new logos and all. However, I do not endorse completely burning the burgundy pants, but maybe break them out once/year for Dallas or something.

According to the Post, the players approached Gibbs asking to make the change. Ironically, the move to the all-white began with the Rams game last year, and started the winning streak at the end of last season.

I’d love to see gold pants, as well as the gold “R” helmet that Lombardi brought to the club when he coached there (wanted them to look like the Packers – nothin’ wrong with that).

I think there is something wrong trying to look like another team! That’s what the original Bengals and Paul Brown did to copy the Browns.

I do think that after Gibbs retires – they will get a new logo to appease the Native American tribes who oppose the name Redskins.

I crtainly hope not!

Besides… The ‘Skins dont do anything like the chant (Atlanta Braves) or the tomahak chop (FL Seminoles) or anyhing else that I think is more offensive thn just a name. Also, they are the one of the most profitable sports franchises on the planet, and let’s face it… everything comes down to the alighty dollar anyways. So I doubt that the ‘Skins will ever have to change there name. Dan (the worst thing to ever hapen to the Redskins) Snyder will just throw a lot of money at the problem and it will go away.

Back on topic…. I like the Burgandy over Gold that they wore for the 2003 70th anniversary season. White over Gold just looks ugly. But nothing will ever top the quinessential White over BUrundy Redskins.

Well, that is news to me. Ever story that I have ever heard is exactly like the link I had posted. But regardless of what we now know about Lone Star Dietz, George Preston Marshall changed the team’s name to honor Lone Star & the Sioux based on what he knew about him in the 1930’s.

About the UWM’s W what exactly is so great about it that so many HS are copying it? The throwback uni’s they sported earlier this year with the old helmets look sooooooo much better:

The Washington Redskins tried to activate a change last season and then started on a winning streak (here comes the white pants and jerseys) and so Dan gets all superstitious and decides to hold off. The change was sweet. Think black.

Next year is their 75th Anniversary so you’ll be seeing something to celebrate that big event.

Footnote: The NFL only allows a team to wear an anniversary uniform 3 times in a season, twice in the regular season and once in the pre-season, so it will only be a tease but all and all a good conversation topic for sports branding and uni blogs everywhere.

How is the logo offensive? It does not show an offensive pose or gesture… it looks no worse than a coin… Only without the teenage single mother thing.

I hope and pray every day that the ‘Skins don’t go black. That would be a huge mistake, and about 8 years behind the black is cool wave that many teams in most sports, unfortunatly, rode. See Here , Here, and here for a few examples. Black Redskins uniforms would only further lock Dan in first place for the worst thing to ever happen to the Burgandy and Gold.

Footnote reply: If a team declares there “anniversary uniform” as there regular game unis, they can wear said uniform for the whole season. That is how they wore the retro styled ones in 8 regular season games in the 70′th season (7 home & 1 in Dallas; they wore White over Burgundy at home against Dallas because the cowboys are cursed in blue).

For the record I would only be an advocate for a logo change – keep the name and colors. The logo is a bit offensive when combined with the name and an update would be a step towards PC without going too far (ie Washington Bullets become Wizards)It’s not like a logo retirement is the end of the world.

And I’d wait for Gibbs to go – for history’s sake.

I think Dan Snyder has done well. I mean, at least he is willing to spend the money, even if it doesn’t end up working out (Deion, Jeff George, etc.) Unlike Bill Bidwell in Arizona…
