The Utah Jazz debuted their new baby blue unis on November 18, 2006 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.

my favorite baby blues are still either the Chargers or UCLA. Probably UCLA because they are classic.

My favorite is the Houston Oilers Baby Blues.

I second that

Does anyone know if we’ll be seeing the throwbacks on Thanksgiving? I think only the Cowboys did it last year, if I recall correctly.

Cowboys vs. Bucs

Dolphins vs. Lions

I just don’t want to see these abominations.

There are actually three Thanksgiving games this year. The third one is Denver at Kansas City (8PM).

The Lions are either wearing the black jersey on Thanksgiving (like last year).. Lions are 1-2 in the black jersey. Or they are wearing it on Christmas Eve. vs. Chicago

rams wearing white on white today?

Philadelphia’s wearing their black (or really really dark green?) jerseys and white pants. Tennessee’s wearing white jerseys and — for the first time, I believe — light blue pants (as mentioned by Paul before). Working well for the Titans so far — they scored a TD on their first drive.

Love the Titans baby blue pants.

McFarlane’s SportPicks fearured Drew Bledsoe in the throwbacks in Series 13 of the NFL players. I have to say, it’s one of the better looking jerseys in the NFL, and I abhor the NFL. If Bledsoe wasn’t such a useless quarterback, I may have actually put some money into the NFL just to have that jersey represented on my shelf of SportsPicks.

If you think that’s impressive, check out their Cooperstown line coming out in February. The stirrups on Ozzie Smith are phenomenal!

I completely agree. Ugly unis aside. can we petition the league to have different teams play on Thanxgiving? I hate the Cowboys and the Lions are an annual horror show. spread the wealth, NFL !

they put gates in the throw back for those figures

I can’t wait to see the Reebok-designed suits that Mike Nolan and Jack Del Rio are going to start wearing. I’m so glad that Reebok made these suits so coaches can start looking professionally on the sidelines again. We’ll have to see how big the logo creep is on the suits though. Can you imagine Armani or Gucci putting a huge logo on their suits?

sorry for the double post, but they put bush catching a punt and(for Minna) polamalu has the hair all over the place, and randy moss in in his usual F.T.W. mood

Ian said:

The stirrups are great, and the Ozzie flip is priceless, but the bar to hold Ozzie detracts from that “statue”. However, a very good representation, none-the-less.

Wizards also broke out a new uni today, i think it looked pretty good compared to the bluish things they wear

The reason why the Cowboys and Lions always have the Thanksgiving games are because before it was fashionable to play of Thanksgiving, teams didn’t want to play and instead have the holiday to themselves to celebrate with their families. The Cowboys and Lions were the only teams to step up and host the games, and now that football and Thanksgiving have become permanently connected, the NFL won’t give the games to anyone else because of the good will the two franchises built up. That being said, it’s brutal watching these two teams every year.

On the throwback issue, for the past three or four years, the throwbacks have been a part of the Thanksgiving tradition. I hope that we do see them this year because I love the Bucs’ Sunny Delight vomit orange and that fantastic Buccaneer logo (surprisingly not being sarcastic). I’d love to see my Jets play on Thanksgiving one year and don the green helmets of the Al Toon era.

Interesting comments from Pens’ other goalie Thibault about his new mask and getting used to it.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette articte (mid article)

No pics yet.

by the way, here’s an article by Steve Zipay from today’s Newsday about the new NHL unis. apparently they are of the tucking in variety. yuck!

Found one.

Does anyone else agree that the Panthers’ blue jerseys should become their official home jerseys? I’ve been a Panthers fan since they came to Charlotte and I picture them in blue and I picture them in white. The black jerseys just look weird to me now. I don’t know why either. This has nothing to do with Ditch The Black because black is an official color. I just like the blue.

I highly doubt the Bucs will be wearing their throwbacks read the fifth paragraph and you’ll know why

Anybody else see D’Angelo Williams’ mouth guard with the Univ. of Memphis logo on it? I’ll try to get a pic.

B

It’s kinda hard to see but it’s there.

D’Angelo Williams’ mouth guard.

What is it with Da Bears and decal malfunctions? First the C going loose a few weeks back now Rex Grossman has lost half his NFL shield. Is thee no quality control in Chicago?

I do have to say I don’t mind the baby blue pants the Titans are wearing today. At first I thought to myself, “What the hell are they wearing??!”, but I like how the pants match their shoulder striping. The Eagles, on the other hand, need to drop those black jerseys. Ugh.

One word about the Titan’s blue pants in today’s game against the Eagles….NICE!!!!!!!

I have another issue with uniforms in the NFL. Am I the only reader or does the color scheme of some teams, Kansas City of the 90’s and the Colts, who wear ALL WHITE make my stomach turn? Its not that inimidating when your opponents look like a walking roll of paper towels? Come on Washington.

Just thought I’d post this here: I wear a painted army helmet to Michigan sporting events; after Bo Schembechler’s death, I decided to add an element. I’m neither an artist nor a graphic designer, but it works.

49ers coasch Mike Nolan is rockin’ the suit today, and they should just go ahead and let him wear it every week. Kudos.

Maybe it’s me.. but what are we looking at?

I never understood why football players wear knee pads when they don’t cover the knees. See #16 of Alabama for prime example.

Also, piping on the socks?? When will it end?!

And last but not least, while LSU might be trying to show their Nike sponsorship–note the gloves, pants, uni top, armband, and chin strap (not to mention the ball!)–atleast his sleeves match.

Another thing I forgot to mention earlier:

Yesterday was an away game for Liberty and I happened to drive by the Liberty truck that carries all of the equipment and all of that. To my horror, it had a Nike swoosh on the side of it. Not only the side, but it was on the back as well, and I’m assuming it was on the other side. I didn’t have my camera with me so no pictures, but logo creep has made its way to the trucks of teams.

That is an awesome helmet. I love that it’s WWII era.

I agree! Dude looks SUAVE!

About those VT socks – I dont see that as unnecessary piping. I think its a nice detail… unlike that maroon patch behind their knees.

Remember all the oohs and aahs for Bethanie’s socks?

Anybody have any fancy photos of the coaches in suits????

Allison, I’m going to assume you’ve never worn football pants. When running, the kneepads, which are a dense foam (though without the metal bracing of thigh pads) conspire to cause the pants to slide up over your knee. This is why lots of NFL players (who don’t have to wear kneepads) forego wearing them.

I should also say that the pads sliding up isn’t nearly as bad as when the pants slide up over the knee and leave the pad pocket flapping in the breeze.

Bad loss for the Jets today, but it’s nice to see they’re still keeping the green-on-green Hefty-bag look on the shelf. Since the green pants made their first appearance of the year in Cleveland in Week 8 I’d been dreading the next home game, but once again, to everyone’s great relief, sanity prevailed. Let’s pray that boy-genius Mangini keeps it that way.

GO JETS.

The reason for this is that they only wear the black about three times a year now, or so it seems.

I’d love to see my Jets play on Thanksgiving one year and don the green helmets of the Al Toon era.

If memory serves, the Jets played a Thanksgiving Day game in Detroit in ‘85, in those unis, and lost.

As much as I’d like to see them once a year, I think it’s still too soon for the Jets to trot out the Sack Exchange-era unis as “throwbacks,” as they only went away 8 years ago. Even if you count the black-trimmed version as a different uniform, then it’s still only been 16 years. Plus, that uniform debuted in 1977, the franchise’s 18th year of existence.

True, the 49ers have worn the Montana-era uniforms, which have only been gone for 10 years, as throwbacks, but that uniform dated back to 1964 (and was worn in four Super Bowls). The Broncos’ “Orange Crush” and the Patriots’ “Minuteman,” which have appeared as throwbacks in recent years, also went away in the ’90s but dated back to the ’60s. In addition, those three teams’ current uniforms are “modern,” while the Jets’ current unis are themselves essentially “throwbacks.”

You know what I’d really like to see? The jet-plane helmet decal with the single green stripe. Or the blue-and-gold NY Titans uniform.

As long as the Jets keep their current uniforms, and NEVER wear the green-on-green combo, they can break out any “throwback” they want.

Nolan looks totally cool. Of course, the fact the Niners are dismantling the Seahawks helps.

» Mike Nolan’s suit

Here’s another receiver with open belt and loose laces.

At first I thought this was a fashion trend but maybe its a way to catch grabbing defenders, ala Antonio Bryant (pass interference?)

I think the Jazz’ light blue is a good look for them.

I don’t like the baby blues at all—not for any team. There. I feel much better for saying that. I like the Lions’ all-black unis. Whew. Glad to get that off my chest. I don’t like the sock piping, but I do like sock striping (has to do with width). Burrill, I like the helmet very much. I also dig your site. Teebz, don’t hate the game—hate the players. I like McFarlane’s replicas, but he’s kind of strange himself. Kramer, I saw the end of the Steelers vs. other team game, and Troy’s hair was looking so fine flowing out the back of his helmet.

Finally, I haven’t gotten my tats yet, which is a shame because my baby nephew’s baptism was this morning and I wanted to slap a temporary Uni Watch tattoo on his forehead right before he got baptized. I missed the first hour of the Vikings’ game, which is probably a good thing.

Baby blue looks fine on football jerseys, but not in any other context. Not on football pants, not in basketball uniforms, not in baseball uniforms. I cannot articulate why this is the case; it just is.

Those who yearn for a return to the baby blues of the Cards, Royals, Phillies and others really need to break out your old baseball cards and rethink whether it is a good idea.

Oh, and I don’t like Nolan’s suit. I think I’ll take angry homeless man’s attire for today because he was wearing a new hoodie again. I just don’t like the suit for coaching thing, no matter what the sport. Nice slacks, nice shirt and striped socks—that’s what coaches should wear.

i saw a screen shot on espn of a rbk logo on the black dress shoes. You just knew reebok was gonna get a logo in there some where. I however, am not totally against all logos when not over done.

I like the Panthers’ style guide plan – black at home, white on the road, blue on the road only against teams that wear white at home. It’s logical and I always know whether they’re at home or on the road when I catch them, unlike, say, the Redskins who end up in white 14 games a year.

I was going to chime in on this, but I see you beat me to it.

The chances of seeing the old orange TB logo/unis is about as likely as seeing the ‘ol hartford whalers logo/unis ever again.

Looks like the Broncos are going with the all blue again tonight.

Not really. They wore blue at home today against the Rams. I still like the blues better. I’m a UNC fan though so that could someone explain it.

I believe someone asked if any others teams do this. Someone mentioned the Oakland A’s. I thought I would add another team.

I heard the commentators during last night’s Wings-Oilers game talking about the NHL getting rid of 3rd uniforms next year. Did anybody have news on that? Edmonton was wearing their dark blue 3rds, which was what brought it up.

In typical commentator-uni-bantering, they said that all they needed to do was ban Nashville’s 3rd uniforms. Indeed.

I was at the Indiana-Chicago State game this afternoon. It looks as though Chicago State has joined NikeWorld, except there’s no swoosh on their jersey. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a good picture. Anyone know who supplies CSU’s uniforms?

Speaking of the Jets, nice “60 Minutes” profile of one J. William Namath this evening.
Always nice to see Broadway Joe in the classic Jets kelly green and white – and many of the NFL Films clips CBS used showed the Raiders in their silver and black. All in the dirt at Shea.
The basics are the best.

Logo on the shoe doesn’t count- you’d see something on the shoes whether he had a suit or his usual polo. Figured he’d have a lapel pin like the NCAA guys do.

WHile I’m at it, how in the world can Knight have a CAR PARTS PLACE patch on his sweater?

Just happened. John Madden himself just gave an endorsement to the Chargers’ powder blues on Sunday Night Football! OK, San Diego, the ball’s in your court!

Folks, is it just me, or are the Wizards alternate unis like scary ugly?

Ouch… Like practicewear gone wild. Gold shimmer me timbers, matey with some stars up on the shoulder pads…and then black and then gold, yipes.

If Nike gets ripped (and deserverdly so) for their asymmetric sleeves then Reebok gets some smack for this horizontal asymmetric mess.

While watching the Seahawks get thumped in the first half, I noticed that the vast majority of the 49ers do not have the rear “bumper” on their helmet.

ALL of the Seahawks had them (and they all say “Seahawks” on them), but only a couple of the 49ers had them.

Anyone else ever notice that?

Watching the Chargers/Broncos game and NBC showed a close up of Marcus McNeil’s two broken hands and incedentily showed his fly completely undone.

I was just about to say that.
Additionally, great end of game call by the ref.
“That’s the end of the game.”
It kinda seemed like he wanted to add, “Now I’m going to go home and have unpleasurable sex with my wife.”

Great day for Uni Watch fans. The Broncos blew it to the Chargers in their solid-navy Nike Swoosh unis with the Chargers scoring 28 points in the 2nd half and a last series of bizarre penalties.

Make them think twice about the monochrome look.

Oh! And the Titans looked amazing in the powder blue pants! It just looks so much better than the cluttering navy pants.

DUMP THE LALAKERS WHITE HOME UNIS

Time for the Lakers to dump their white home unis.

In an NBA world full of generic (and boring) white home uniforms…why the hell would you not choose to stand out and wear your Lakers “yellow” home jerseys forever. West, Chamberlain, Johnson, Worthy, Bryant and O’Neill all look damn good winning all that gold in gold (and not Wizards alt gold)…

Teebz, that’s not why the players say it’s the No Fun League, but I see your point. Then again, I just watched the Chargers win a shootout with the exciting Tomlinson running his fine ass off. I wouldn’t mind seeing more long bombs, but I like watching defense, too. I just can’t stand all the celebrations. Touchdown and sack, and safety, ok. The rest? Just part of the job.

I know I’m in the minority on this one, but I like the Chargers’ present uniforms better than the baby blues.

Is it purple or Forum blue?

Historical Moments of the LA Lakers and LA Kings original purple and yellow color choices.

1967/68: Jack Kent Cooke the eccentric owner of the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers, builds a spectacular arena in the Great Western Forum and with 5 new NHL teams, the Kings wear Mr. Cooke’s colorful purple and yellow uniforms. The same year the Lakers change their navy blue and powder blue uniforms over to the purple and yellow.

Lakers Forum Blue urban legend.

Former Laker owner Jack Kent Cooke loved the color purple but, for whatever reason, refused to say that was the color he liked. (sounds like Lukas and Chick would get along) so he called it blue. So, to deal with the problem that the uniforms were clearly purple but the owner didn’t want it called that, Chick Hearn (or maybe Cooke himself) came up with calling the Laker purple “Forum blue.”

Okay, suits on the sidelines? Ridiculous.

You spend your whole life hoping NOT to have a wear a suit to work. Then somehow the geniuses at Reebok decide NFL coaches should wear suits on the sidelines (and after seeing the new Wizards alts, I think Reebok should spend more time on uniform designs)…nonsensical.

Obviously you don’t know what the situation was. NFL, Reebok, and Co. didn’t even want Del Rio and Nolan to wear a suit, and they practically had to beg to let them wear it.

There are many ridiculous things in the NFL these days, and coaches wearing suits isn’t one of them.

TruBruin, I agree with coaches not wearing suits, but Reebok is not to blame for the suits. There was a ban on suits with Mike Nolan (San Francisco) petitioning to wear one. The league finally gave in and allowed him and Jack Del Rio to wear suits for two games this year.

How are suits on the sidelines ridiculous?!

Sure, Ditka looks great. Next time you bash the classiest look this side of James Bond’s black tux, get your facts straight. Notice that Ditka has a sport coat over the sweater and a shirt and tie under it. That qualifies as….A SUIT!

Best sideline look: Tom Landry
I hate the ‘boys, but I certainly respect Landry, and I think all coaches should look that good.

I’ll say it one more time—nice slacks and a nice shirt with stripes on their socks. That’s how I want my coaches to dress.

Very, very ridiculous.

Sports are entertainment and NFL stadiums are entertainment venues. That’s why God invented the polo shirt and Starter satin jacket so coaches wouldn’t look like they were heading to a meeting.

Now if you wanted to be bold, let the refs (who are all corporate executives during the week) wear the suits instead of those zebra skin jokes… Sure, a pair stretch Dockers pants, a nice sweatvest and tie and a grey leather jacket on the refs…sweet.

I didn’t know Reebok was against the suits…ok…I take back everything I said now can they take back the Wizards alts?

I don’t see how it is at “direct odds.” It has absolutely nothing to do with coaching. If anything is inappropriate, it’s looking like a bum. How you think wearing a suit is inappropriate and looking like Billichick is fine is beyond comprehension.

While we’re at it, lets all wear sweatpants and hoodies to work, since everyone knows clothes have nothing to due with how you work. I’m sure that would go over well.

John, there’s no need to be sarcastic and supercilious while making your point. Have I said that I like the angry homeless man’s look? No. In fact, if you’ve read this thread from the past few days, you will see that I stated that I reluctantly choose the suit look to the sweats look. However, I prefer an inbetween, and your argument is disingenuous because you are making a sweeping generalization of what I said. If you work in corporate America, sweats and hoodies would be inappropriate. If you work in IT, however, it would be just fine. It’s the environment. Sports are sports. Yes, they are a big business, but they are ultimately games being played on fields.

Having said that, I want something between suits and sweats—as I’ve repeatedly said.

If a coach wants to wear a suit, he should be allowed to. It does not affect his ability to coach at all.

Just my two rolls of pennies worth on that topic.

For the last time, I have never said that the angry homeless guy should be the model for what coaches wear. Never. I never said that suits impede coaching in any way. All I am saying is that I, Minna H., prefer the sporty casual look (nice shirt, nice pants) to either the suit look or the sweats look.

They can coach in Speedos for all I care—though I would not want most coaches to do that. Mike Tomlin, Jack Del Rio….That’s it. Those two can coach in the nude if they want—but no one else.

I have read. I just wanted to be clear.

You know it’s all in good fun, Minna. I’m not trying to be a bastard. :o)

what do you guys think about the more than not helmet visors that the players wear. mr. lukas wrote a page 2 article about them a couple years ago but i never got the opportunity to read it.

I dont know how many pro-wrestling fans there are here, but at the TNA Wrestling PPV tonight a wrestler named Homicide(of the Latin American Exchange tag team) had some major logo creep as he was sporting some gloves with the NFL Equipment logo on them. I’ll try to find a picture.

Coaches in suits i think is really classy. I thought i read that Nolan wanted to dress as an authority figure would, and a suit does just that. I dont see how any of you can knock it, because its a classic look, THE MAIN REASON IT WENT OUT IS BECAUSE OF THE COPORATE SPONSORS LIKE RBK WHO WANT THEIR LOGOS PLASTERED EVERYWHERE!

I was eagerly awaiting the Titans light blue pants, and they were everything i hoped for and then some, awesome look

i really hope someone tivo’d the sunday night game
between san diego and denver.

sometime in the second half
John Madden was discussing the chargers
Left Tackle (O’Neal??) and mentioned he was playing
with 2 broken hands. Well the camera showed both
hands hanging at his waist, but also showed his undone
pants, with the laced up fly basically wide open completely
undone. unbelievable. (i wonder if the NoFunLeague brass watching will
call for a fine lol)

im hoping someone can come through with
a screen grab of that one.

Here’s the screen grab of the Charger lineman unzipped pants

The chances of seeing the old orange TB logo/unis is about as likely as seeing the ‘ol hartford whalers logo/unis ever again.

… and that is a crime. two of my top ten all time favorite uniforms in any sport, and they’ll never be seen again because their team owners are total jerkbags. Karamos and Glazer should be drug out into the street and shot.

Baby blue looks fine on football jerseys, but not in any other context. Not on football pants, not in basketball uniforms, not in baseball uniforms. I cannot articulate why this is the case; it just is.

Those who yearn for a return to the baby blues of the Cards, Royals, Phillies and others really need to break out your old baseball cards and rethink whether it is a good idea.

consider it done, and consider it a good idea.

granted, I never thought it fit for the Cardinals or the Phillies (though I did find a certain awesome charm in how garish the Phillies maroon-and-baby-blue looked – it was like it was so bad that it spun the meter past the bad redline, all the way around, back to good). but the Brewers, Royals, Mariners and Blue Jays all looked great in the road blues. it fit for them because their primary color is blue.

my favorite baby blues are still either the Chargers or UCLA. Probably UCLA because they are classic.

Define classic. Houston Oilers wore baby blue upon entering the league. Can’t get more classic than that. What about North Carolina – aren’t they classic. What about Columbia Lions?

Does anyone know if we’ll be seeing the throwbacks on Thanksgiving? I think only the Cowboys did it last year, if I recall correctly.

Cowboys vs. Bucs

Dolphins vs. Lions

I just don’t want to see these abominations.

I completely agree. Ugly unis aside. can we petition the league to have different teams play on Thanxgiving? I hate the Cowboys and the Lions are an annual horror show. spread the wealth, NFL !

The Lions have sucked the last 2 times on the holiday but before that they blasted a good Green Bay team in ‘03.

It’s a tradition that should stay. Be glad there is a third game now that will give other teams a chance. I’m hoping for retro Lions jerseys.

Love the Titans baby blue pants.

They should wear them every game home or away.

This leads me to an excellent question. Why do NFL teams bother with multiple pants combos when one will suffice for all games? I don’t see fans buying replica pants – whereas you do see licensed basketball shorts for sale.

Ha! Would it be Manchester U hooligans to do the deed?

I like the Panthers’ style guide plan – black at home, white on the road, blue on the road only against teams that wear white at home. It’s logical and I always know whether they’re at home or on the road when I catch them, unlike, say, the Redskins who end up in white 14 games a year.

where do you see evidence of this style guide plan?
