How about those AWFUL caddie bibs (particularly the U.S.)?

the bills look awesome in their throwback/alternate uniforms. I remember last season hearing that the fans wanted to bring these uniforms back full time. Or maybe it was the players…. anyone know if there was ever any truth to that?

Nats wearing their socks up as a tribute to Nick Johnson today..

Just noticed that Carson Palmer has a tear in the underarm of his throwing arm sleeve. Sorry no screen cap. Perhaps at halftime they will replace his jersey with something respectable.

Two weeks in a row the Redskins are wearing the maroon unis. And those Bills unis are sharp. They should go back to those fulltime.

Watching Vikes-Bears, awaiting the Eagles @ Niners.
I can almost take the Vikes uni’s. I like the logo above the name plate on the back. I can live with the dreaded jersey side panel. But the deal-breaker is the little widget on the hips, that pants thing. ack. What about contrasting (yellow) fasemasks?
#8 by Brinke Guthrie on 09.24.06 3:43 pm |
What kinda shoes are Musin Muhammed wearing today? They seem mostly red/orange- very little black. Maybe Reebok?
Will Reggie show the three stripes tomorrow night? I realize Adidas can just pay the fine, but at some point to they say, ‘enough.’
Only seen one player (a Niners lineman) wearing Under Armour shoes.

They would replace it, but that’s not allowed. He can’t be put into a respectable uni in the middle of a game, b/c carson plays for the bungels. he would have to go to the Browns, Packers, or even the Jags, but he has to get out of Cinncinasty first.

Those Bears’ unis definitely looked red on my screen too. A really bright red too.

Ok, I’m watching my Browns, and Sotver just hit a FG. well, when they showed him, I noticed he has a very small helmet on. Has anyone noticed this? I looked quick, and he hasn’t always wore it. I went and looked, Our kicker, Dawson wears as close to a regular helmet as a kicker can. I don’t remember him wearing one in Cleveland, but i can’t find any pics. anyone else see this or know of anyone like this?
#17 by Eric G. on 09.24.06 4:38 pm |

Is that really teal though? I mean, the Dolphins and Jaguars use teal. What would you call what the Seahawks wear? It looks more grayish/blue than anything……

I thought about this, but like I said, he once had a regular helmet, it just looks so small and weird, almost like a bike (the kind you ride, not the company) helmet. it’s really small, it almost looks smaller than the one in the pic from my 1st post!

Thanks for clearing that up!
Aside from the game at Jacksonville last year, where the Jags wore white as the home team, and the Seahawks wore blue jerseys and white pants, has Seattle ever gone with that combo? What about white jerseys/blue pants?

Those are the Schutt helmets, they’re weird because they’re short and wide. The most famous one I can think of is probably former Penn State QB Michael Robinson. They look really goofy, but I guess they’re comfortable
#25 by Brian from Short Island on 09.24.06 5:50 pm |
Schutt Air helmets are very comfortable, at least on my dome.
Wayne Chrebet wore one…
#26 by bwalsh on 09.24.06 5:50 pm |
Michael Robinson only wore one of the weird Schutt helmets because he had to — the whole Penn State team wore them last year (along with this year). Also, several other teams are wearing them this year. I’ve noticed Oregon and Texas Tech so far. In the pros they can wear whatever they want and you see some players wearing them from time to time. Its not so much the helmet itself that makes it look bad but the fact that all the facemasks/cages they make for it look bad. The bars are spaced too far apart. Also, the weird one Lukas pointed out that Arrington wears just looks bad. O and Palmer intentionally cuts that slit. If one of the top 5 QBs in the league thinks a slit will give him a little better range of motion, then I’m cool with that. And bag on Cincy’s unis all you want but damn it feels good to be 3-0. Cincinnasty… as in the Bengals are so nasty they smoked 2 good teams in the Steelers and Chiefs… that must be what you meant “buckeye mike.”
#27 by Brian from Short Island on 09.24.06 5:53 pm |
…I always thought Adams helmets looked goofier… they can be seen mostly in the Arena League.
#28 by Eric G. on 09.24.06 6:14 pm |
Anyone else think the two-tone scheme on the back of the coaches’ sideline shirts is incredibly ugly?
#29 by Tom K on 09.24.06 7:00 pm |
The only helmets that look goofy are the Revolution helmets
While we’re on the topic i think Drew Stantons facemask looks weird because it looks like a normal 3bar rb style but missing one of horizontal bars over the middle

One thing I thought was weird, was the way former Jets kicker John Hall wore his helmet. I can’t find any pics, but he wore it really high, kinda hard to explain, but if you’ve seen it you know what I mean. Pics anyone?

If there was anything Pop Warner about the Giants, it was the way they played today, not their unis……

Just saw a Southwest commercial that clearly had the new NFL refs’ unis, but the team uniforms were entirely non-authentic. Weird. Why would the NFL license the refs unis for a commercial and not the teams’. Are they different licensing deals?

The New York Rangers and Florida Panthers both wore the flag of Puerto Rico on their sweaters last night during their exhibition game in San Juan.

SWA doesn’t want to show favoritism to any team would be my guess..
I used to have this style facemask on my helmet, which all the better players wanted. One took it off and tried to put it on his size M Riddell helmet, but it didn’t nearly fit. It only fit on the XL Schutt AIR.
:-)

That’s not one of the new Schutt helmets. The new helmets are the DNA and are clearly reconizable by the diamond shaped ear holes and V-shaped top vents. Seatle’s Grant Wistrom wears it . I had one two years ago in HS they are pretty comfortable. The odd shape was designed to deflect helmet to helmet collisions so that they are only glancing blows. The inside pads are the same that are used in paratrooper helmets as well as the padding used on MLB stadium fences. The facemasks look weird and spreadout because of a wider range of vision in the front

Ryan Stone of the Pittsburgh Penguins looks as if he tapes his socks all the way down to the top of the skate, I noticed this at a Penguins open practice he has the tape go down about 5 times and it is very cool to see. you can kind of see it in the picture here. I will try to get a better picture as the season goes on
#41 by Greg on 09.25.06 12:38 am |
Carson Palmer’s right sleeve is like that every week. He cuts it to free up his throwing arm. I think the Steelers would prefer he didn’t.
#42 by BurghFan on 09.25.06 1:01 am |
Greg,
As long as their punt returner can catch the damn ball, I suspect they’ll take their chances with whatever Palmer wants to do with his sleeve.
Now that I’ve vented, a uni note would be Ike Taylor’s multilayered socks.

Stover used to wear a regular Riddell VSR-4 helmet; now he wears one of the Adams helmets that Brian linked in post #27.
By the way, Bike actually developed that helmet in the late 1990s (I think it was introduced in 1998 or 1999) but was forced to sell them off to Adams when their production plant couldn’t keep up with orders. Now you only see the Adams helmets on NFL kickers, some linemen (Warren Sapp comes to mind), and Arena league (primarly Arena II) teams.

I remember watching whatever college all-star game Robinson played in last year (it was either the Shrine or th game is played in Chase Park in Phoenix) and he had gone back to his old Schutt Air helmet for that game instead of the DNA helmet he wore during the season.

came across this comment searching for Seahawks-related items in Uniwatch… the blue/blue home and the white/white looks resulted from the players themselves. they didn’t like the official blue/white home and white/blue road combo, so they lobbied for permission to wear the all-color combo and won. for a few years they wore the ‘official’ combo in the preseason, but even that practice was abandoned in 2006.
the players just don’t like the unmatching jersey/pant look. in general i agree with most of the readers here that unitards are ugly, but not with my Seahawks. the all-one-color look works much better with their gear.
still waiting for a throwback day for the Hawks too.
